It's almost October, and I figured that most of you would have at least a few solid releases that really got your attention so far this year. I do like seeing end of the year lists, as there are still a number of CDs to come, but I usually get caught up in all the hype of the early new year releases and forget about some of the best cds of last year.

I picked my 10 favorites for the year so far:

1. Machine Head - The Blackening
2. The Old Dead Tree - The Water Fields
3. Bokor - Anomia 1
4. Carnal Forge - Testify For My Victim
5. Daath - The Hinderers
6. Blood Tsunami - Thrash Metal
7. Before The Dawn - Deadlight
8. All Shall Perish - The Price Of Existance
9. A Perfect Murder - War Of Aggression
10. Abandoned - Thrash You

You don't have to post 10, or even 5 - 1 is fine if that's all that comes to mind. Despite my list consistently ranging through various genres of metal, I listen to absolutely everything and would appreciate any suggestions.

1. Arctic Monkeys - Favourite Worst Nightmare
2. White Stripes - Icky Thump
3. Queens of the Stone Age - Era Vulgaris
4. Kings of Leon - Because of the Times

And the bourne ultimatum OST is in somewhere.
Can't think of anything else.

As you can see I'm a bit of a Backpacker. Hip hop is my main modern musical genre. There's not been much electronic worth speaking of this year and I'm out of sync with the alt rock world somewhat. So these are the two that spring most to mind for me.

Nine Inch Nails - Year Zero
White Stripes - Icky Thump
QOTSA - Era Vulgaris
Travis - The Boy With No Name
Modest Mouse - We Were Dead Before the Ship Even Sank
Biffy Clyro - Puzzle
Maximo Park - Our Earthly Pleasures

Most of the CDs I've bought this year weren't actually released this year...

I'll list these anyway, more for my own sake so I can see where my money went...

Biffy Clyro - Blackened Sky
blink-182 - Enema of the State
Foo Fighters - Foo Fighters
Interpol - Antics
Johnny Cash - The Man in Black (best of)
Manic Street Preachers - Everything Must Go (10th anniversary edition)
Mark Lanegan Band - Bubblegum
Massive Attack - 100th Window
Nirvana - Bleach
Pantera - Vulgar Display of Power
Pearl Jam - Riot Act
RHCP - The Uplift Mofo Party Plan
Beach Boys - Pet Sounds 40th Anniversary Edition
Smashing Pumpkins - Siamese Dream
Smashing Pumpkins - Earphoria
The White Stripes - Get Behind Me Satan

Not a bad haul but I should really buy more than rock music. =/

Dr. Strangelove

I'M COOCOO FOR COCO CRISP!
Here's a rough idea of my top 10, but this shit changes on a daily basis.

1. Neurosis - Given to the Rising
2. Burning Star Core - Blood Lightning 2007
3. Angels of Light - We Are Him
4. Gui Boratto - Chromophobia
5. El-P - I'll Sleep When You're Dead
6. Pantha du Prince - This Bliss
7. Wolves in the Throne Room - Two Hunters
8. Deathspell Omega - Fas – Ite, Maledicti, in Ignem Aeternum
9. 108 - A New Beat From a Dead Heart
10. Birchville Cat Motel - Birds Call Home Their Dead

This list is probably going to change a whole lot before the year is over, since Clipd Beaks, Ween and Dillinger Escape Plan still have albums coming out.

I haven't really heard many albums released this year, so I don't have much choice.

The only two I can remember would be

Turisas - The Varangian Way
Iced Earth - Framing Armageddon

Turisas's album being the best, Iced Earths is good too.

This thread just got punk. I didn't know the new Wilhelm Scream was out, how it is? I loved Ruiner.

EDIT: Stupid question, I guess, since it's on your list. But I mean in relation to Ruiner. What should I expect?

My little list so far...

I mean, I guess its not out yet, but I've had the pleasure of listening to it. Its very riffy, seemed less memorable than Ruiner, but I also felt that way about Ruiner in relation to Mute Print at first. Its a grower.

You like punk/hardcore? I'd be interested to see your list.
