This year I've bought:

Modest Mouse - We Were Dead Before the Ship Even Sank
Minus the Bear - Planet of Ice
White Stripes - Icky Thump
Feist - the Reminder
Against Me! - New Wave
Wilco - Sky Blue Sky
National - Boxer
Interpol - Our Love to Admire
Sundowner - Four One Five Two

Haven't really given everything a totally fair listen yet, but from those, my favorite three would be Against Me!, Wilco, and Modest Mouse. Honorable Mention goes to Sundowner.

My taste in music must be WAY out of sync, since I've only seen two albums posted that are locks for my end of year top ten list. There are a few others which have an outside chance of making the list, but it's still way too early to call the race with so much intriguing stuff still on deck for 2007.

For what it's worth, here are a few albums to consider...and I know I'm forgetting obvious stuff since I'm on travel and don't have access to my full library:

Locks:

The Ike Reilly Assassination, We Belong To The Staggering Evening (probably #1 as of this second)
Gui Boratto, Chromophobia
Apples in Stereo, New Magnetic Wonder
Lemongrass, Filmotheque
Ulrich Schnauss, Goodbye (for sentimental reasons)

Contenders:

Caribou, Andorra
Dinosaur Jr., Beyond
Bishop Allen, The Broken String
Kathy Diamond, Miss Diamond To You
Peel, Peel
Okkervil River, The Stage Names

lsslave

Jew Gamer
Sonata Arctica - Unia
HIM - Venus Doom
Sick City - Nightlife
Linkin Park - Minutes to Midnight
The Used - Lies for the Liars

Just my favorites from this year, not to mention countless I have enjoyed

Its been a good year for music!

liars - self titled
pygmy lush - bitter river
animal collective - strawberry jam
arcade fire - neon bible
baroness - red album
do make say think - you, you're a history in rust
indian summer - reissued LP
static radio - one for the good guys
brainworms - which is worse
pig destroyer - phantom limb
torche - in return
grails - burning off impurities
towers - towers

kind of a weak year

no particular order

apparat - walls
cloud cult - the meaning of 8
stars - in our bedroom after the war
dragonette - galore
chromeo - fancy footwork
justice - †
mum - go go smear the poison ivy
tigercity - pretend not to love ep

bunch of others probably, but these were my favorites out of my organizing mp3 folder

edit: also i don't get why so many people like m.i.a. - kala so much...i think it's weak as hell compared to arular, but then again it took me awhile to like arular, so maybe i just haven't given it enough of a chance.

It's been a great year, and there's heaps of other great albums - like Boddicker's 'Big Lionhearted and the Gallant Man' - but this is just an incredible album.

Oh, and this is the best local album so far:

Is MIA actually good? Diablos said it was awesome but yeah, I don't trust his musical opinions.
I'm surprised that he would like her. :lol

Her songs are so weird and different from what I'm used to, but they're so catchy. I just started listening to her albums last Thursday after seeing this video on a friend's myspace: http://youtube.com/watch?v=7NVfuSFREmU

And here's another song with her and Timbaland: http://youtube.com/watch?v=xGzkbERdMng

Damn, McCartney came back hard on this one. It's one of his best albums ever, right up there with Band on the Run and Ram. Shame it's not on more lists here, because it really is a standout for him. The guy plays all the instruments! Amazing achievement at this point in his career.

Johnny Marr made a good band great. Songs like "We've Got Everything" show his influence and super-jangly guitar were a perfect fit. He better stay with Modest Mouse for at least a couple more albums, this stuff is insane.

I've come around to thinking this is Kanye's best album. No filler skits, uniformly great beats, etc. Okay, sometimes the rhymes are average, but I like the subject matter. Kanye doesn't fill his tracks up with typical hip-hop BS lyrics.

Label

The Amiga Brotherhood
Ziltoid the Omniscient - Devin Townsend

Actually can count as one of my fav albums ever.

I keep going back to Icky Thump and Neon Bible from this year. Those 2 CDs are great. The latest Manics I thought was fairly good, but they'll never return to the form of their earlier days.

against all odds, i LOVE this band

I love that band too, but Traffic and Weather is hands DOWN my most disappointing album of the year. Maybe even of the last 5 years. Holy god its awful.

Also disappointing is the New Foo Fighters release...It's not bad, but its not anywhere as good as I had hoped.

There's only 3 albums for me so far that stand out this year.

1. Dinosaur Jr. - Beyond
2. New Pornographers - Challengers
3. Wilco - Sky Blue Sky

Hard rock at its best, and it's their first album. Can't wait to see what they do next.

Mifune

Mehmber
The National - Boxer
Okkervil River - The Stage Names
Do Make Say Think - You, You're a History in Rust
Grinderman - s/t
Apples in Stereo - New Magnetic Wonder
Animal Collective - Strawberry Jam
Iron & Wine - The Shepherd's Dog
MIA - Kala

It has been a solid year.

Also Out of State Plates, even though it was a collection of B-sides, was better than Traffic and Weather. Adam Schlessinger is awesome, but he and the boys laid a dud with the latest album. no biggie, everyone does at some point or another.

You were right :D

1. Symphony X - Paradise Lost
2. Chris Bathgate - A Cork Tale Wake(NOT METAL)
3. Stars of the Lid - And Their Refinement of Their Decline(NOT METAL)
4. Raintime - Flies & Lies
5. Canvas Solaris - Cortical Tectonics
6. Nunslaughter - Hex
7. Townsend - Ziltoid
8. Sun Caged - Artemisia
9. Agent Steel - Alienigma
10. Amorphis - Silent Waters

Been a shit horrible year for metal, really. Last year wasn't too great either, after an absolutely amazing 05.

Edit: If the Coheed album sounds like III instead of IV it'll make it to at least 4th on my list.
