FF8 is the best FF game.
Squall is bawse, card game is fun and the story is great.
Well, the PS1 FF games were the ones that really made JRPG games huge and they changed the way people viewed JRPGsEveryone seems to love FFVIII.
Its crazy how polarizing the three PS1 entries in the main Final Fantasy series were.
Awesome news! GOAT finally comes to steam which is a godsend since I'm not sure that we'll be able to play PS1 games on PS4. I want to say Gekai is only going to be for PS3 games when it hits, right?
I abhor Final Fantasy VIII. The Junction/Draw/GF/Leveling systems are completely fucking broken.Everyone seems to love FFVIII.

The version on the Square store required an always online connection, digital river imposed download limit, and Securom DRM (correct me if I am wrong here).
The Steam version, which was released later on, only required a Square Enix account on first install. No Securom, online-check in, always-online, etc, etc to be found.
That's what I figured or rather, hoped but now we're covered either wayI would imagine Sony will port their PS1 emulator and allow people to play their games that way.

I did kind of enjoy some parts of the story, but the gameplay is easily the worst of the 3 PS1 games. EASILY, like VII and IX actually have good gameplay, VIII is mind-numbing.
Thanks for the info!
Glad my purchase of FFVII was worth it lol. Hate secuROM with a passion.
Cant wait for FFVIII to be released. I wonder what other FF games will come out on Steam aside from FFXI and FFXIV.
So what are the chances it comes out in 10 min?
I love this game and want it now.
8 is a tedious chore to play through, unless you purposefully break the systems, and then it's just boring.I never understand why people complain about the system being broken. You can play this game however you like, you don't have to abuse anything if you choose. You don't even have to use GFs if you don't want to.
The original PC version came with support for it as a separate application that worked about the same. It'd probably be more work to rip it out, so they'll probably include it. Here's some dirty footage from Youtube.
Grief, i love you
except for Halo 3. you lied about it!

Spoony knows what's up
I have heard good things about IX as well, but that one doesn't already have a PC version available so would take some extra work on Square's part.
XV and Kingdom Hearts would not go amiss on PC.
Spoony didn't understand the draw and ability system, as most people who played the game didn't. Draw is only needed to get the few missable boss G.Fs and for your entire magic arsenal you had your refine abilities. A definite flaw of the system is that it discourages using magic which results in an Attack command spam but let's be honest, FF games are not exactly the pinnacle of JRPG gameplay anyway.

This right here. Triple Triad > Tetra Master
That's the point. It's such a glorious trainwreck.
Also, which Final Fantasy fight system isn't completely fucking broken?

I still think Final Fantasy VII's Materia system, Final Fantasy V's Job system, Final Fantasy VI's Esper system, and Final Fantasy X-2's Dress Sphere system were all great mechanics, infinitely superior to Junctioning/Drawing, anyway.
My favorite JRPG battle system will always be Grandia II, though.
UPDATE
These were uploaded to the Steam registry a few days ago
Most of my enjoyment from FFVIII is derived from abusing carding, lvl-up/down skills, and such with the magic/junction to break the game.
If you don't like VIII, move on to IX.Never played this. Only 6 and 13...time to go retro.

Having the enemies level up with your characters was the worst idea ever.
Junction really makes you overpowered. I wish Final Fantasy games had a difficulty option, because this one needs a "Very Hard" mode.

There is one in FF8, it's called Enc-None ability.
What are you talking about? That's a way to make the game EASIER, because the lower enemies are in the game, the more likely you are to have an advantage. The best ways to improve your characters don't involve combat, so avoiding combat isn't an issue.
The game has so much replay value. You can play in any of these ways:
- Use your Guardian Forces to do damage (most newbie players spend the whole game doing this)
- Progress via the card game
- Progress via buying and refining items
- Progress via farming crafting items for weapons
- Progress via limit break abuse
- Progress via stat leveling abuse (+1 Strength every time you level, etc.)
- Use the Seifer trick to get super high level magic early on
- Use Enc-None for to do a "story playthrough" where the focus is on story and you only participate in main battles
Ahhh, back when Final Fantasy let you play how you wanted to.

I would guess the end game boss fights (Omega, anyone?) would be quite difficult with characters on level 7
Haven't heard of that one yet, what is it about?
