Fighting Games Weekly | May 12-18 | The Bracket Racket

Why didn't everyone just jump to the conclusion that a GotG tease means a GotG tie-in game for the movie? Was that specifically debunked?

Most companies still envision a digital-only future. Pretty much everyone is bracing for it and pain is being felt by those who aren't bracing for it.

Microsoft just thought it would happen sooner rather than later, and grossly underestimated internet infrastructure. All these same companies will be pitching the same thing to you years from now with considerably less backlash (if infrastructure improves).

...not sure what is wrong with a Halo TV series. Halo has pretty much been begging for a TV/film adaptation for years and Forward Unto Dawn was not bad at all.

"Microsoft was forward-looking" is probably the worst narrative of this gen's console launches, because the PC is already pretty much an all-digital platform and MS decided to implement the most backwards and anti-consumer version of it they could. MS never revealed what their platform would do besides always-on DRM because that's literally all they knew they wanted it to do, and if game sharing was real or if cloud gaming actually had tangible benefits they would've led with that instead of TV. Infrastructure was never really the issue, because I don't think MS ever expected the majority of people to download their games off XBL (with purchases tied to accounts like Steam), since then they wouldn't actually need the always-on DRM if everything was tied to licenses instead of discs.

The crap companies like Comcast are trying to do to net neutrality and municipal broadband in general is the reason we won't get a digital-only future. They find it more profitable to spend money on bribes to enforce their monopolies and screw over customers than to improve their networks.

Why we need pitchforks at the FCC right now.

man these matches on HOC right now.

I wonder if Kane's team is a top 5 team or top 10 team. Him playing nemo all the time really helped him with confirms and marvel footsies as well.

It's definitely a top 5 online Marvel team. LMAO!

Definitely not top 5 or top 10 team in the game overall though. It's a Mid tier team maybe Upper Mid at best due to how it completely destroys rushdown teams but most teams nowadays have zoners on them to combat this type of team. A single Magneto can shut down the entirety of KBR's team.

What do you mean they never revealed what their platform would do besides DRM? They put pretty significant effort into defining their W8 ecosystem and trans-media interfaces. Microsoft jumped the gun on the integrative approach. They did what everyone (mostly Apple, but Google as well) was scared to do and has been working towards in one swoop, which is most evident in W8. It was not just DRM, and it was not just the X1 that is part of the platform. The DRM is what soured people on the whole ecosystem; the comparative W8 fumble was boot-to-Metro.

This has been in the making for years upon years, and it played out as expected, except for the DRM bit. Regardless, I think Microsoft did expect that people would transition to a wholly digital market (or at least one that is "always online;" hence the mandatory checks), and I think that was sort of reflected on in the corporate culture within MS that we saw when Orth did what he did. They were out of touch with reality, and thought that people would buy into being exploited if the rest of the ecosystem was that attractive, and it blew up in their face.

Man KBR is demolishing Bum. As expected.

If it wasn't official already.... KBR is the official best Hulk + Haggar player in the universe right now. Fuck Fooblat, Fuck Bum... KBR is dah truth.

They said next to nothing about how game sharing would work, the pricing on digital purchases, or really explain any benefits offered by their new platform over what people already use. The DRM was only necessary because they expected that people will keep using discs and use them over the whole course of the console's lifespan. Steam is really generous with their offline mode because the games are tied to an account instead of a disc, and MS only needs always-on DRM because they need to enforce digital licenses on physical media, which really is the crux of that issue. If MS actually wanted to shift towards all-digital delivery systems revolving around licenses and accounts they would've set up a fantastic digital store and incentivized people to buy games on it, not try to add restrictions to physical discs.

Steam is hugely profitable because Valve (and developers) get a cut of every sale instead of gamestop or a reseller on ebay, but a huge part of Steam's success is effectively guaranteeing people that the game they want to play will be at a price point they are willing to pay for on their platform at some point in the future via Steam Sales. What MS tried to do is leverage their closed system to force consumers to only be able to buy games at prices dictated by MS and their retail partners, which is completely different than trying to herald the digital future.

Anyways, this is getting outside the boundaries of acceptable thread-talk, I think. So uh... basically MS is marvel and Steam is anime, because MS's DRM is just like Steam's but with TAC infinites so you won't ever get to play your game.

New shimauta has the best ibuki atm. Sonyono something is pretty cool since he's less unblockable crazy and does crazy pressure situations. Sako still goat nonetheless.

Steam Works. It's the update to remove Games for Windows Live, and tests for the update on PC.
