Fighting Games Weekly | May 12-18 | The Bracket Racket

Capcom confirmed the games with gold version of AE can be upgraded to USF4. The bad news the games with gold version doesn't come out till the 16th so you have to wait 2 weeks for it.
Games for Gold versions are not separate SKUs, it just makes the full digital version that is always available on XBL free to purchase temporarily.

Leaving for Toryuken now. Hope to see some of you there! And if you're entering Tekken or DOA let's get some games in!

So.... http://www.fruit-fighter.com/
Hmmm...

(Oasis is a french company producing fruit juices.)

This game is a great way to pass some downtime.

I made a huge recap of ROF3 players, guests, infos.

Hope some gaffers will join the stream. :)

Curious, are you associated with the event? I reached out via email and twitter from the RoF page, but I do wonder if there will be an issue due to language differences.

EDIT: We're good, they got the email.

So yesterday, I learned that the use of drugs in esports is somewhat of a problem. Players commonly take Adderall in order to improve their reaction times and to stay awake longer so they can increase their practice time. Even though I used watch competitive Halo pretty regularly, I had no idea those players were using this kind of stuff, I've lost a lot of respect for those players.

I hope adderall doesn't become as large a problem in the FGC as in the esports community.

High school and college students live on adderall. It's also common place for people to take medications typically used to control blood pressure by depressing the beta one receptors in the heart and slowing it down in order maintain and keep their nerves under control. This is really popular in concert orchestral musicians. Then you have the obvious arena of sports. If money is on the line, then people will take things seriously and do whatever they can to get an edge.

Adderall is pretty easy to get and doctors generally dont hesitate to give it out. Adderall definetly helps for fighting games, reaction time is bolstered. I wouldn't be surprised to hear of some people with a history of using it in the scene...lasts longer than coke and easier to ingest. Playing 3S on a half cap of adderall XL turned me into a machine.

man these matches on HOC right now.

Set in present time, Within follows the story of many troubled and deep characters on a quest for personal rebirth and redemption.

At the beginning of their quest, the characters are at the lowest point in their lives. Broken, on the verge of suicide, they get approached by mysterious individuals who, willingly or unwillingly, give them tattoos.

These tattoos say something about these characters that nobody else knows, revealing secrets and casting light on shadows of their past. These tattoos also unleash the power of their souls, granting them extraordinary abilities.

Is RG like an eSports team like EG or a FGC team like DMG? Because they remind me of the latter.

They mention on their Facebook page that they're involved in Call of Duty and Gears of War tournaments. However, their website only shows fighting game players at the moment. Nothing from any other genres.

Part of this was a reaction speed problem - FADCs are so fast that reacting to the next DP/low/throw was near-impossible for many players.

But the risk reward problem was this- I DP with Ryu. I FADC. One of two things happen.

They blocked- I'm safe! And I'm + so I get to continue pressure/meter gain!
They didn't block- ULTRA!

Both of those options leave the defensive player at a disadvantage. Now, you have to blow 3 bars to ensure safety, in a game where those 3 bars might be hugely important to deal damage with later.

Human trafficking as the entry fee for the High-Roller Edition Select tournament? Jeeez.

The far bigger problem is doing that on the defense. On offense, it just forces respect. On defense, you have a safe GTFO button that leaves you at advantage if you guess wrong and can give you 400 if you guess right. This in a really link-heavy game so combos drop more easily than in most others.
It's fucking bullshit.

Yup I'm part of the four main organizers. :)

The tentative schedule changed after we posted it (less than 2 days later actually) to say that there might be pools for Injustice on Friday. The community is backlashing (with the usual anti-UFGT cheerleading from the CDjr/OBS side of the community) and I'm irritable.

UFGT has started on Friday for years (all games mind you, including SF and Anime), but its only ever NRS that gets in a tizzy over it.

I realize this is because the community feels disregarded a bit from last year (and somewhat rightfully so), but the possible pools expansion here is literally a preparation for their increasing registration. An expansion necessary to ensure UFGT can run with its usual stopwatch precision. So, arguably its a good thing?

They've got 5 full blocks of stream time too this year. We're actively trying to highlight the game (partially cause I love it).

But yeah, nobody read the paragraph about all games starting on Friday on the registration page. So we're bad guys. Again.

I should have guessed. The supposed conspiracy will never die, I guess.

Gods at EVO. 2 month head start on Ultra.

Yeah.

That's not what I was implying at all. Just in general how much effort they've put into these games and the models they've chosen and some general design decisions. I didn't list TTT2 because I think it's a well made game, but it seems like they blew their load.

TTT2 seems like a pretty absurd game in that it's very data heavy, yet has a million different characters that are hard to distinguish from one another by a casual observer because so much is in the data - same how Akuma and Ryu look very much the same to a casual observer despite noticeable differences in how they actually have to play due to move properties.

I don't really like Namco's art direction that much. Too much eyeliner and strange crystal whatevers for the devils and whatnot. And the stages just get more and more random. Soul Calibur used to have a well-defined aesthetic of fantasy swordfighting, now it can be Shaq Fu vs. James T Kirk (and not just evocative-of-character colours but actual likenesses of said people) fighting in sight of the Death Star.

A smaller cast with more clear definition for each character and a solid visual feel could go a long way. And set skins. Set skins, please. Completely free customs just end in horrid bullshit that drains my enthusiasm for the game.

I agree on TTT², it's an amazing game, but really, really hard.

I know when I played a lot of poker, Adderall was a huge help in longer tournaments. It would give me so much focus that I felt like I could peel paint off a wall just by staring at it long enough. In not surprised at all that you're seeing stories of all these pro players in other games doing it.

I also remember playing a lot of Soul Calibur 2 with one guy who when sober was OK at the game (but not much better than me). However, after "powering up" smoking some marijuana he would play like he was one of the best players in the US. The change was jarring (and hilarious, in retrospect).

Relevant to my interests

Edit: means nothing for the future of the game, Capcom has released several Megaman books recently and Sega did a big Valkyria Chronicles book so...
Has the 30th anniversary logo in the corner, so its related to that.

These are really good constructive criticisms- especially on the aesthetic side.

Some XRD graphics information from fonfa on Polycount: Link

"They didn't use cloth simulation for character animation. It was all by hand."
"Main character has 460 bones. The rig can change a arm length, leg length, maximum 600 bones for one character."
"They used just step animation. They don't use interpolate for animation."
"They used XSI. I think they use emPolygonizer for smoke object and ICE particle."

There are some bits of info in the PDFs in their post also.

Our coffee-machine died. I feel like I am too :(

I am reading through the Ultra trailer thread. Are they going to show changes that are final for the console version?
