FF7 Sage?I'm more worried about the Materia System. Will I be able to combine Final Attack + Phoenix? How about my KotR + HP Absorb / KotR + MP Absorb / Mime?
some info from interview with Nomura on this week's magazine.
-the scenes from the announcement trailer is part of scenes used in the actual game. the quality will be improved
-PS4 will be the first hardware that you can play this game. We are not thinking beyond that.
-There will be no new characters. The visual will match the realistic feel of the trailer.
-can't talk about the game system much, but it will be more realistic system.
It's silly to argue this when there are already boatloads of turn based JRPGs out there. I fail to see how you need "another one of those" either.
And stop acting like ARPG's cater to some "lowest common denominator" as if FFVII was comparable to quantum physics or something. Anyone can finish it.

Nothing is confirmed
Which is pretty much an irrational fear because SE doesn't really have a track record of doing shit like thatBut...I'm trying to shave here.
We don't know anything and I'm sure no matter what happens we will all end up buying and playing the game when it comes out. I think people are more concerned that SE will make some drastic changes to the battle system and will negatively impact the game as a whole.
We can have "realistic" ATB without changing the battle system - FFX-2.Nothing is nor will be for quite some time, but "realistic" does not imply "ATB", at least the original implementation of it.
So it is a bit of a stretch (really, everything being discussed about the game today), but this is straight from the horse's mouth that the direction they are headed today is away from the original battle system, wherever that may be.
The XIII trilogy had many problems, the battle system was never one of them.even if Squenix decide to change the battle system, I think I'll trust them that it at least not gonna be bad, just different at most. I mean, even when we lament about how all 3 FF XIII games sucks and all, I thought their combat system is praised to be good. at least, I enjoy FF 13 and 13-2 battle system. haven't played Lightning Return though.

Type-0 combat system is already very similar to Versus XIII's.
If the combat system is an evolution of Type-0's with materias and limit breaks I'd be VERY satisfied.
What worries me is that FF7 had like 300 different enemies and developing hit boxes and such for all of them...

My guess, and this is only a guess, is that they are actually modeling all the enviorments to be realitime, not pre-rendered, however they will have the camera semi-fixed. It'll move for action oriented things, and battles will take place on the field where the camera zoomes in and becomes dynamic.
I do not see them going with baked pre-rendered backgrounds, that would limit the scalability of the game in the future. It makes far more sence that everything is rendered and beautiful, and maybe keeping the fixed camera but letting it move around sometimes.
I can see why they were so apprehensive about making this remake. No matter what route they take - purist or modernization - there's a huge group of people that're gonna be pissed off.
And an equally huge group that will like whatever they do, but still.

This game exists. You guys honestly think Square would go through the trouble of remaking it just to piss fans off? Have a little faith until you're given reason to believe otherwise, jesus. I don't want every FF7R thread to turn into a shitshow because people are completely paranoid

Can't wait to unrealistically die to a single small stabexcited to see this guy again
They have a 2 year timeline from E3. If they do it pre-rendered, they can meet the timeline of the 20th Anniversary.
Otherwise, if it's full 3D everything, I expect not to see the game until 2018-2020.

How many turn based RPGs do we know of for PS4 that are actually worth playing? (No, Omega Quintet is garbage)
FFX HD? Is that it? An HD remaster? SO MANY OPTIONS!

Boatload? Must be a very small boat.
List all of the "boatloads of turn based JRPG" released on PS3/PS4/Xbox 360/Xbox One/Wii/Wii U.
FFXIII and XIII-2
Blue Dragon
Lost Odyssey
The Last Remnant

What else?
"We are willingly not acknowledging PC is the other version in development because not only is it yet another valuable revenue stream but we just gotta stay quiet so Sony doesn't give us the stinkeye."

I am 110% for pre-rendered backgrounds, can you imagine how good they'd look!? But if they do it, they need to do them at 4k (for the future) so we arent locked into low resolutions (relatively) backgrounds when we are playing this on PC or other 4k devices in the future.

Because next gen consoles will probably be out by then and 2017 is seemingly less likely. It's not pre-rendered. Also, why do they have a 2 year timeline? Who set this arbitrary timeline?
They've been working on it for a year now and they have 2.5 years til the end of 2017.Unrealistic expectations. I'm under the impression that this hasn't even begun full production. With a full remake with a level of fidelity close to FFXV, I wouldn't expect it for several years at this point.
If they're going to change the battle system, I hope it is a realistic progression that builds on the strengths of the original one.
Also, please no Crisis Core slot machine leveling, SE. Please.

Yeah, that's a vague statement. It doesn't rule out Genesis or Angeal or Veld or the Turks from BC. But it also might. Hard to tell.So the tone of the trailer should match the tone of the game? The really dark moments of FF7 are really going to be adapted well. The line of no new characters is fascinating though as it could mean no one outside the original game or no one outside the already established compilation.
Great to hear. The atmosphere of the trailer is amazing.
Very reassuring interview.
Its the typical Nomura zip but whatever slips out is pretty exciting.
"More realistic" System huh..HELL YEAH MULTI CHARACTER ARPG!!!!!!!!
Why are we specifying systems, though? Turn based systems in JRPGs were the standard for decades. There are plenty out there.
Based on what exactly? Also, is that pre-production, partial production, or full? I know SE is pretty big, but ARR came out two years ago which diverted a large portion of their staff and delayed work on FFXV and KHIII. Now those are in full production with Nomura directing both KH and FF7R, so I'm guessing their main priority is getting XV and KHIII out first.

-Verendus mentioned seeing early pre-production work for VII:Re back with a post in 2013, I believe.
-Kagari has known about the project for at least a year prior to the E3 2015 announcement. She had to keep that info to herself all of that time, which is just insane to me.
-Nomura indicated production started before the FFVII PC Port PSX debacle back in December 2014, he just didn't indicate how long that production had been going on.
I believe that's what some posters are going off of when they say production (however in what capacity?) has been going on for at least a year or so.
Whoa! so FF VII is not going to be released on 20th anniversary in 2017?
There are also plenty of action RPGS in the past as well, why don't you just play those?
God forbid I want some turn based RPGs on my PS4 that aren't typical Idea Factory jank.
Nomura said so. For what it is worth, the pre-production is likely a lot shorter since it is a remake.Based on what exactly? Also, is that pre-production, partial production, or full?
