I am sudden;y reminded of a scene in Dirge of Cerberus where Cloud blows up a mako reactor just by throwing a Blade Beam at it.

I mean come the fuck on.

All of the characters would seem a lot more badass if they were doing extraordinary things while still being something close to human.

Instead they turned them all into superheroes.

That urge for a FF7 remake just diminishes doesn't it?

Yeah. As is, they would probably just screw it up.

terrible conference, but after I got to finally participate in the Lightning Strikes Event in FFXIV.

As crap as it is, this year's showing is actually much, much better than some years where they've had nothing but like, Tomb Raider and mobile games to show.

http://youtu.be/uLfmgEwwoEE?t=7m24s

each member of the main cast took out a reactor right?

Kinda brings down the weight of the their first attempts. hahaha

I think the idea is probably to show how much stronger they are than the beginning of the series. After all, they did defeat Sephiroth while he was sucking up power like a sponge for Godhood, so I imagine they ought to be able to take out an unmoving target on their own now.

Is it silly? Yes. But this IS FF7 and you're fooling yourself if you don't think FF7 was ever silly to begin with.

Final Fantasy IX Ending Spoilers

My favorite game in the series by a small margin. Loved every bit of it, except
what the eff was that boss at the end? I hate it when story elements (like the crystal and the boss) are introduced right at the the last seconds of the game. I completely lost track of what was going on when zidane started walking through space and shit.

Unlike say, FFIII or FFVIII, Necron is just stupid bullshit who comes out of nowhere.

Unless you choose to view him as an elaborate cameo from FFV. Still bullshit, though.

FFIV set the precedent on that, I think.

Zemus was revealed to be the main villain when you reach the Lunar Palace, so he had at least two dungeons before the end of the game to establish his role (three if you count Bahamut's Lair). Zeromus was just a transformation of Zemus. If you count that as coming out of nowhere, then Bizarro/Safer Sephiroth or Neo-Exdeath also count as coming out of nowhere.

Necron really had no set-up or explanation whatsoever. Even when you are fighting him you have no idea who he is.

Well, he *does* explain that he thinks that life ultimately leads to its own negation (as seen in Trance Kuja's attempt to destroy all life) and he's there to finish the job. By fighting him off, you basically change his mind and convince him that life wants to survive. Some sort of eternal lawgiver/death god figure, I guess. *shrug*

Nah, Zemus has a couple hours foreshadowing at the very least, plus the entirety of Golbez's "get to the moon!" scheme. The BS there is more when people assume Golbez wasn't willingly helping him on some level (which, judging by how Golbez considers himself responsible for that period of time and the actions he took during it, he was).

What about... uh, FFIII then!

The Cloud of Darkness is alluded to during the Ancient Library, I believe. It's the threat that once threatened to destroy the world back in the days of the Arc Mage Noah.

I thought Necron was pretty well signposted as far as the themes of the game. Story-wise, yeah, he came out of nowhere, but considering the themes of life and death, it made a lot of sense to fight the personification of nothingness.

Also, hello! First post in the FF thread!

Sup Core. IMO Necron is Soulcage or a buffed up Necrophobe.

You were supposed to fight Hades in Necron's place so that alone gives some sort of hint.

And you get the Tin Armor from Hades which some Alleyway Jack guy is looking for so you can assume he works out a deal with Hades at some point.

I still like the Necrophobe one better. Gilgamesh explodes the two of them and it sends them careening into other games.

Which by FF5, GILGAMESH is a pro at doing even if he doesn't know it.

A few days late, but: Hey Magius!

You guys, I'm trying to find the time to play FFXHD, but FFXIV is obliterating my free time. I hope that is an acceptable excuse.

And Mag, I haven't yet unlocked Gilgamesh, but I'm getting there!

I've been playing Dimensions some. The screenshots look terrible but it's actually pretty good (nostalgic, even) on a screen the size of an iphone.

I probably would barf myself dead playing it on an iPad or larger though.

The use of vocals in the songs. It was much more than normal.

Oh, right. Aside from Sulyya Springs and Dust to Dust, I didn't really like the vocal tracks all that much, either. But the instrumental themes are fantastic, some of Hamauzu's best. Even with Mizuta and Suzuki collaborating with him for the sequel's soundtracks, neither reached the heights of XIII.

For those of you that played it or kept up with impressions, is Type-0 good? I had been ignoring it, but some of the art and hearing that it's a war story has me intrigued.
