Ohhh, car transformed into armor? Or a summon ala FFXIII?

Battle system seems a bit iffy. Still not sure how they perceive this as a FF game. Very confusing marketing. Dont know if this is basically a 16 hour kingdom hearts game or a full final fantasy with different gameplay.
I really hope this game makes use of MLAA. In Little Big Planet 2 it looks damn sexy.
One more thing, I think they should just port over Agito (or whatever they are calling it now) over to PSP2. By the time it launches, the PSP2 will already have released. Might as well release it on the next-gen portable as opposed to the PSP with its broken ass one analog nub get up.
Square, I swore I would never buy another game from you after XIII. This is the final straw, videos look epic.
...How?H_Prestige said:This is much closer to a typical FF game than FFXIII ever was.

No I'm serious, how? Versus skews further from FF formula than FF13 did. I don't even get why people say this is a "return to form" either. Now one who played Final Fantasy back in the day thought that Final Fantasy could've been improved on if it was Kingdom Hearts-like in battle system + hyper realistic setting.
In response we're also getting: Hours of cutscenes with cringe-worthy dialogue, generic anime style characters, setting completely detached from Final Fantasy.H_Prestige said:Big world map, airships/cars, exploration/backtracking, optional quests. That's off the top of my head.

And some of the new features are stuff that I don't think anyone would expect from a Final Fantasy game such as hijacking mechs and other shit. It just seems unnecessary fluff that is more complimentary for it's own world than actually adapting Final Fantasy for HD systems.
I realize Final Fantasy has always been about changing things up, but that's usually in terms of gameplay. Versus is more like a new IP than Final Fantasy.

What are you basing the amount of cutscenes on exactly?

Mechs are in most FF games.Kagari said:Mechs were in FFVI...
KH series, the same exact people are working on Versus. Not to mention there's Advent Children, which the CG cutscenes so far are really similar to in style and tone.StuBurns said:What are you basing the amount of cutscenes on exactly?
I never excused FFVIII of this either.Fimbulvetr said:FFVIII was had a pretty similar setting to this.
Modern towns with modern vehicles, but surrounded by wastelands and fields full of monsters.

and it shoots zippers.
also drops a mount called The Zipster.
Kingdom Hearts has no CG if I remember correctly. And if you literally just mean in-game cutscenes. The series has essentially always had them. It's just that years ago it involved tiny little characters standing still and big speech bubbles.Big One said:KH series + Advent Children, the same exact people are working on Versus.
Big One said:But that was more story-relevant in FFVI in practice. In Versus it's a cool feature, but did you ever think playing in the past how cool it would be to make Cloud hyjack one of the WEAPONS? Was that really the focus and tone on those non-existent futures that made you wish to see in a "true" FF sequel?

I don't mean just CG cutscenes (except for that Advent Children comment), I mean cutscenes in general. We've already seen bits of the game and the trailers have established that this is going to be a cutscene heavy game, both CG + in-game. It's going to have voice acting and (probably) bad dialogue too. In the PSX games, there was cutscenes only every once in a while and usually all of the in-game scenes were pretty well integrated with the overworld gameplay. But in the Versus trailer, we see movie-style shots focusing on every non-prerendered cutscene.StuBurns said:Kingdom Hearts has no CG if I remember correctly. Cutscenes have been an integral part of the series for a very long time.

Well we shall see, I think you're going to be totally wrong, but who knows really, it's so far away and we've seen so little at this point.Big One said:I don't mean just CG cutscenes (except for that Advent Children comment), I mean cutscenes in general. Honestly, the FFX-style is just unavoidable for Versus. It's to be expected. That alone, already detaches it from the style in how the story was told in the pre-FFX games, and will set the tone to the more modern FF games rather than the older ones.

You make a good point about the quality of the original writing, but the game seems to be heavily stylized enough when it comes to the visuals (costumes, architecture, etc.) that I'd like to see the dialogue stylized to match.duckroll said:I don't think it would make a good fit. Why waste Alexander O Smith on a Nojima/Nomura script?
The cutscenes will be directed by Jun Akiyama. This is A Good Thing.Big One said:I don't mean just CG cutscenes (except for that Advent Children comment), I mean cutscenes in general. Yes KH has pretty terrible level design and right now that is my fear for this game as well.hamchan said:The only thing I'm worried about is if game will have similar environments to KH; empty ghost town environments。
Okay let me show you the difference, without resorting to comparing CG cutscenes.duckroll said:I'm not really sure what this specific FFX-style is. FFIV through FFIX have just as many cutscenes and FMVs as FFX. The difference was they were not directed in a very cinematic way until FFIX, and none of them had voice acting. The SNES FF games also had much faster scenes because it was just pure text and they didn't have a ton of animations due to budgets at the time, although FFVI and CT are already notably much more heavier on long cutscenes compared to previous Squaresoft games.
FFIV DS is a good example of what happens when they take an old FF, and give it more modern production values. There are full cinematic cutscenes replacing the top down talking heads scenes, complete with voice acting. There are FMVs for the major scenes. There's even a vocal song. It's clearly much more cinematic than the PS1 FFs, so does this mean FFIV DS is "FFX-style" now?

Yeah pretty much, but I haven't played much of it so I wasn't sure how to respond to it, but after seeing that I think it's safe to say that it's in the new style rather than the older one.duckroll said:Okay, so based on this, you admit that FFIV DS is a FFX-style game?

What's the difference here other then that in X, they have the technology to actually direct the scene in a movie like way? I'm sure if IX came out on the PS2 that scene would just be a movie like directed scene.Big One said:Okay let me show you the difference, without resorting to comparing CG cutscenes.
