DLC can be a good or bad thing. Depends on how they do it. If it's stuff like a super hard mode, new dungeon, etc. then it's pretty nice. If it's a crapload of extra items at $1.99 each or something, I can't help but find it to be annoying.

Considering all previous FF games had a lot of secrets and bonus dungeons to discover, I find just the thought of possible DLC content appalling.

A lot of optional stuff better already be on the disk(s).

Also as far as the Versus stuff is concerned I've always felt the vibe that if FF13 performs anything close to well on 360 then they'll port it. Considering how quickly and seemingly easily they managed to port FF13 with no prior knowledge, doing the same for Versus on the same engine should be easy.

By that you mean stuff on the disc you already paid for, right?

Or do you mean stuff that's on the disc that you still have to buy, like Scamco did with the latest Soul Calibur? That's a rip.

Without Matsuno? Fuck that!

They'll rehire the original team to do it. Believe.

Wishful thinking on your part?

Yes, I mean the stuff I paid for initially.

Seriously. I know some huge FF fans who only own 360s. I'd hate for them to miss out on Versus.
Aren't very huge fans if they own only a 360. Most "huge" FF fans would've bought a PS3 early on.

Ignoring that the 1)360 was released first, 2)has many PS2 owners, and 3)cost significantly less for a long time.

But oh wait, they aren't "real" fans.

Are you one of the people who define "real" FF games too?

You're still trying too hard, and this conversation ended forever ago.

Please stop this stupid line of thought. There is no reason for a FF fan to buy a PS3 for FF when there are to date a grand total of zero FF games on the system. Unless by "huge" you mean "stupid" FF fans. :P

Well, personally, I know that the majority of my friends who own PS3s bought them initially because FFXIII was announced for it (exclusively). I know it true for a lot of people online as well.

FFXIII was exclusive until a year ago practically?

Yeah but nobody was buying PS3's back then. Most FF fans I know barely play anything else and are waiting for FFXIII release for their hardware purchase. And they'll probably pick a 360 because it's 149€.

Edit: You guys would be surprised how much non-gamer fans Final Fantasy has. Especially female.

Thanks for agreeing with me! :lol

zero releases, but FFXIII was announced as a PS3 exclusive 5+ months before the PS3 even launched. It captured the attention of a lot of people.

hell, it was one of the primary factors in my decision between a PS3 and a 360 in 2006- and I'm sure I wasn't the only one. For almost 2 years it was one of those "big reasons you need to buy a PS3- IT'S COMING!!"

Does it really surprise people when someone buys a system for the promises of a particular release (be it FF or GT or Halo), especially when that respective series has been a long time participant in a singular console brand?

If it's absolutely true that no quality was sacrificed for making it multi-platform, then I fully support the move. I think it's great that such a wonderful series is really expanding to a broader audience again for the first time since FFVII.

Final Fantasy XIII - Amazon.com Sales Rank:

PS3:
#15 in Video Games
#3 in Video Games > PlayStation 3

360:
#69 in Video Games
#17 in Video Games > Xbox 360

Based on what I remember reading online by various fans, some people initially bought PS3's expecting XIII to be an exclusive... for many it seemed to be the driving factor behind their purchase; I remember people damn near crying about it being the only reason they bought a PS3 to begin with after the E3 multiplatform bomba. After that announcement, though, it's silly to still want a PS3 solely for XIII if you already have a 360 and want next to nothing else on PS3.

I did the same, personally. I had already wanted one of course, but the announcement of a possible FFXIII exclusive had me going crazy with lust for the system. I don't regret my decision, though I do hope to buy an X360 somewhere down the line in a year or two for some of the older RPGs that sparked my interest.

And I'm kinda on the FFV13 should remain a Ps3 exclusive side :/ I just want there to be a little something special for us Ps3 players, but I don't work at SE...

Ermm...well I did sorta get one at launch thinking that the next Final Fantasy would be...exclusive and that I would be prepared. :lol I stand by my decision though, I mean I still got to play other great games like Demon's Souls, MGS, Valkyria, Uncharted, etc.

I guess hindsight has taught us not to buy a console in anticipation of a game. May as well as wait and bought the system when it was much cheaper (if all you were anticipating was a single game).

Yep. Luckily PS3 offered Blu-Ray as well, so my purchase was useful early on. :D

A bonus is that I did get (and still have) backwards compatibility, though I will admit the slim is damn sexy.
That too. :lol

It's one thing to buy it if you know it's coming in the next few months. Like, if XIII was still a PS3 exclusive and we just learned about the NA/EU release date, now would be the time to think about getting that PS3 if you didn't already have one. For people to drop $600 on a console after a teaser trailer at E3 2006 with no release date remotely close to surfacing is nuts, though. It would have been one of the reasons why I'd have bought the console myself, but if I had no other reason... wow. It really does seem like a lot of people basically did that though, based on reactions to the 360 announcement. That's so dumb considering it will be basically four years since the E3 unveiling when XIII comes out over here. No wonder so many people got upset.

I don't think a smart consumer needs hindsight for something like that though. :lol

Moving this forward a page before this thread gets closed for moving into console war territory. :P

I just looked back at one of the TGS demos shown by gamersyde.

Two things I noticed.

1) When picking TP to summon Odin(has a 3 TP cost), another command appeared on Lightning's menu(only had 1 TP cost).

Meaning, even though the devs said there would be no limit breaks, there may be some sort of special abilities utilized through TP.

Meaning I may still be able to use my precious Overclock. :P

2) When picking the summon command a completely different sub menu opens up(with Odin's name in it). Why have a sub menu(with the English word "Summon" on top) when each character only has one summon?

My l'CD theory just seems more and more likely now.:D

Alternatively it could just be a way to have you party members perform a summoning. :(

A smart consumer doesn't buy a console day one period. This is even more true this generation, where we got unrealiable hardware and when we basically got jackshit to play during each of the three console's first year (and as far as I'm concerned for most of the second year as well).

Eh, I have a PS3 and 360, no systemwars intended. I'm simply stating that the E3 '06 announcement didn't make me say "whoa I'm gonna stop waiting for a price drop and go spend $600 RIGHT NAOW because of a game that won't be out for probably another 3-4 years!"

I mentioned most of this way back at TGS. No one wanted to discuss it then, and no one wants to discuss it now. Stop trying to derail this thread when all anyone wants to talk about is CONSOLE WARZ, and FF12 vs FF13, and DEAR MY FRIEND. Okay?

Maybe that March release date is their response to that. :lol

So you will be a rotten corpse when the game releases I guess?

Every time I learn something new I keep wanting to play it more and more. Don't give up hope just yet! My biggest complaints about the game thus far are probably how lame Bahamut looks and the Wii-like screenshot.

I'm a stupid FF fan, I bought a PS3 because I assumed the next Final Fantasy would be exclusive to it. :( If I hadn't thought that I probably would've got an Xbox instead.

Edit: lol, amir0x's stealth edit.
