Final Fantasy XIII post-release comparison/garbage thread

The same site got a batch of screenshots for both systems; both are direct feed:

That Digital Foundry guy should re-analyze them.

This one would be a better 360 comparison since it uses the same monsters.

Hmmm. Shall I reconsider my 360 purchase of the game..
I guess waiting for feed comparison is the best bet, but ultimately I can't play the PS3 version on my VGA monitor so it'd be in SD if I got the PS3 version.

Something I just noticed in one of the Xbox 360 pics..

Kagari may know more after playign the original...Is it normal to the font/type look like that? Or some effect or something?

It's hard to compare since those were never roman characters in the Japanese version. It's more than likely jpeg compression artifacts.

I don't know what that is. I updated the image though with the pic Zoe pointed out as it has the same enemy types.

If I recall correctly, there were several spell effects in FFX that distorted the onscreen text (most notably with Ultima)... perhaps it's something similar.

That should not be the case. There are many battle effects in FFXIII and never once did I notice any of it affecting the UI itself.

Hmm, can we turn them off? I don't recall the magic names being displayed when I played the demo and I think it looks slicker without it.

Pretty sure you can't. The actual number of options you can change in the game are very limited.

Well that's disappointing. ): I suppose I'll have to live with it.

You probably won't notice it much after a few battles anyway. The combat is very fast nothing tends to linger on screen for too long.

It can be helpful in seeing what your party members are doing since you can't select it yourself. Same with enemy attacks.

As long as the US version works with JPN button mapping on a JPN PS3, no need for moar!

God damn it I need at least one true 720p in my PS3 library

the only games I have are MGS4 and MW2.

Might pick this one up when it's 30 bucks.

But it is true 720p for the PS3 version?

I think so ?

Native 1280x720 ?

hope it has at least 4x AA and 16x AF and 60FPS and 1900x1200 (dream)

.... I just hope it might get a PC release as well in the future?

So it's a battle system like FFXII again? I really need to read up on this.

I don't know how anyone can finger-point at Gamespot's observations in light of Kagari's post at the end of the last page. The shots in that post spell out the difference pretty much more plainly than any other comparison or screenshots I've seen so far. And the resolution explanation fits with the difference evident there (i.e. the PS3 shot looks much clearer).

It's a pity, but I don't think anyone playing it on 360 will be weeping over it. If you have a PS3, get it on PS3, if you only have a 360, get it on 360 and forget the differences.

This is going to become my favorite thread.

Hopefully both version are good. I switched my pre-orded to PS3 today. If the final code gets out there and both versions are pretty equal (other than the CG scenes), i'll switch it back.

Why? Just curious. It's not online, so the convencience of it being on a single disc should make the PS3 version the default choice.

This will be the first time I buy a muti-platform game for the PS3, barring some freak event.

I'm so hyped for this game yet I don't have it preordered because I can't make up my mind as which version to get, I'm hoping this thread helps. :lol In other words, I've had FF12 since release but I never got the change to play it, how long does it take to play through without going through all the optional stuff?

Are these both direct feed shots, at correct resolutions?

Or will 360 version be scaled or whatever to make it look cleaner?

PS. Why is the text different?

Damn I think I just got played by a GameStop employee for the first time evar. I went in the store to place my pre-order for the Xbox360 version (I have more friends that own Xbox360 so it is easier to bring the game over their houses) and the employee asked if I own the PS3. When I told him yes, he then proceeded to tell me that game content had been cut out of the Xbox360 version to keep the disc count low. As in six areas were removed from the game. Reading this thread it does not seem the case. :-( Oh well I pre-ordered the PS3 version and it actually sounds like the PS3 version may finally be the superior one this time.

You weren't just played, you were eaten by a grue.

Hahaha, you sure got played like a fiddle. :lol Well at least your getting the best version of the game so no harm I suppose.

Actually in hindsight to my post I technically wasn't played since a sale is a sale. Unless if the employee has a PS3 sales quota or something. Still I feel stupid that I did not read the pre-official thread about it, if what the employee told me was the case I am sure there would have been members on here shouting it to the heavens.

Honestly the dithering is pretty fucking disgusting even on the PS3 version:

The fuck is this shit? I haven't seen anything that horrible on any other PS3 games. Is that the best they could do after 4+ years of development? They sure hid this crap in all of their promo videos. :P

Something must be wrong with that pic cos I've never seen anything like that in the actual game.

I don't even like jrpgs and I'm getting this game on the PS3.

I mean no disrespect.

Factual pro and cons

PS3
Pro
720p
1 disc

360
Con
576p
3 disc

I have both consoles and both versions in my gamefly queue. Version i play depends on which they send out.

I have a 2 game plan, but i doubt they'd be stupid enough to send 2 versions of the same game at the same time. Will remove the other when the first one ships.

That side by side is pretty significant.

So no con for ps3 and no pro for the 360. That's some factual pro and cons there.

A pro for the 360 version would be being able to install it to the HDD.

Why does it look like the 360 version was hastily resized ? even the text seems low rez.

Those meritstation screens aren't direct frame buffer captures either are they ? article seems to mention they're sent by square who've done a bang up job on multiple prior occasions already.
