Final Fantasy XIII post-release comparison/garbage thread

A pro for the 360 version would be being able to install it to the HDD.

The game has pretty much zero loading times anyway, is that the only advantage for 360 install?

38GB!? Any other PS3 game fills as much data as FF13?

How are the load times on the PS3 FF13? Is there optional install?
There's like a 20 second load between chapters which has a story recap for you to read, but aside from that there are none at all. No install

No optional nor mandatory installs. It loads VERY fast (surprisingly).

It's clearly not the ''best'' version perfomance wise according to the recent events. You still have the usual achievement vs trophy lol and the controller preference. That's about it.

Are these both direct feed shots, at correct resolutions?

Or will 360 version be scaled or whatever to make it look cleaner?

PS. Why is the text different?[/QUOTE]

Whoa that is a big difference for HD set owners.

That was one thing that surprised me was the fast load times.

Yeah the comparison on that shot is pretty damning. I guess we'll just have to wait until early next week when comparison stuff goes up.

Yeah but even the text looks all fuzzy and bad and that shouldn't happen if the overlaid text and stuff (as that digital foundry guy claimed) is being rendered in 720p right ?

it's all so fishy.

I must admit I'm torn myself now. I own both machines, but prefer the 360 pad by far. I had convinced myself there would be nothing in it (and picture quality matters as I'll be playing on a 50inch TV.

If I can veer off-topic slightly. On my Ps3 my Tv is always switching between resolutions as I go between dashboard and whatever games I play. How does this game handle the varying resolution differences as cut scenes kick in? Obviously I don't want my TV flitting between res's as the game progresses. I don't have that problem with the 360 of course, it stays reporting 1080p to my set all the time.

Does your pad preference really come into play for a rpg?

I just canceled my preorder on this for 360, I kinda wanted to anyways since it was tethered to splintercell, but i'll wait for good comparisons before deciding now.

The same site got a batch of screenshots for both systems; both are direct feed:

That Digital Foundry guy should re-analyze them.
Agree, this should be analyzed. This one looks like could be the real 360 version. The one with Team Nora looks... wrong.

If it can all be controlled (including battle commands) with the sticks then yeah. I have a buggered left hand and so the 360 one is a lot more comfortable with stick placement for me. If the dpad is used a lot of time then the PS3 one would be the better option.

It"ll probably render in 720p and scale to 1080p during gameplay.

I don't even like jrpgs and I'm getting this game on the PS3.

I mean no disrespect.

Factual pro and cons

PS3
Pro
720p
1 disc

360
Con
576p
3 disc
Also, 1080p high-quality FMV on PS3 and 720p with relatively low bitrate on 360.

What I don't get is why Microsoft didn't send them some code ninjas for such a high-profile conversion. I wonder what it does exactly that was so hard to replicate on 360 hardware. Maybe it's just that the engine doesn't like tiling.

Man I am stoked for this release. First Final Fantasy I'm buying on a non-Sony platform since 3. Finally the RPG drought gets a bit of respite.

Have my pre-order all paid off, may pick up the LE guide too.

Anyways, I had a chance to play a bit of the game a couple of weeks ago on the FFXIII bus and they had both builds of the PS3 and 360 version.

I played the PS3 version as my friend and I were on the side with the PS3 controllers and the people ahead of us got to sit on the side with the 360 controllers.

From what I saw (it was the same area for both systems - looked like an airship bridge), graphics were great on both, English voices were good (listened over headphones), and the animations were very smooth. At times, it did look a little fuzzy on the 360 version during some of the spells, but other than that, they ran about the same.

I'm torn on this myself because I need to replace my dying out of warranty 360 and the FF13 bundle is a great deal, but I have a PS3 where I could play the better version. However I also can't justify buying it on PS3 if I get a copy with the bundle...

Does anyone know if GS/some other store would let me swap versions if I keep it sealed? If not I'll just sell it on ebay or something.

You sound like you have already played the game on 360. Want to give us some impressions?

Which console is which? One looks sharper and jaggier, the other looks more blurry but less jaggy..

Huh? No I don't. I sound like I saw the same direct feed screenshots everyone else saw and is basing their posts in this thread on. I haven't even played the game on PS3.

isnt the bundle just a normal 360?why not get a solo 360 then?

Given the controversy, with the gaming nerds waiting fresh 360 screen shots....

How was this allowed to get out of the door?:

These direct feed screenshots indicated to you that there are low-bitrate videos?

Ok. No way in hell the text will look like that in the final version of any 360 or PS3 game this gen. I'm back to denial on this one. Square Enix couldn't have done that shoddy a job.

Durante, you know the bitrate being used? What is it?

So long as you have the receipt and explain that you want x version, you should be able to swap no problems. I know we've done this for people at my GS so it should be the same for anywhere else.

No, that's what a move from 38 GB to 21 GB (with some data replicated 3 times) indicates. (And 720p has been confirmed of course)

Fyrus said:
It has a 250GB hard drive, which isn't sold on any other model or separately.

If you save more money by buying the bundle, I think it's better to just play the 360 version, sell it and pick up the PS3 version when it's cheaper if you still want it. If these screenshots are all representative of the final quality it should still be worth playing. We'll see in the coming days though.

Would the copy being part of a bundle cause any problems? I know bundle copies are usually labeled "Not for Resale" or something.

but why is it different translation for each? am i just being dumb? :lol
They aren't from the same build of the game. The PS3 shot looks like it comes from a demo build. It doesn't have the name indicator like the 360 shot does, either.

I just thought maybe one is from a trailer or something before they did proper localization
thanks :)

S-E really needs to release some gameplay and cutscene footage from the 360 version before it is released. The fact that they still haven't shown any 360 footage outside of private events (as far as I know) makes it seem like they are hiding something, even if they really aren't.

Yes, but it should be noted the name indicator is a toggle. You can turn it on or off in the game. It's useful for the hearing impaired because it clearly indicates who is speaking, but for those who want more traditional subtitles while playing at a lower volume or just for clarity, the name indicator is off by default.

Thank god, that kinda bugged me, but I didn't say anything. :lol

Hmm... If there's a upc code on the bundle copy (not sure if either the Halo 3 or MW2 had them in the system bundles), I'd guess your best bet is to claim that it was a gift with no receipt.

But if is marked "Not for Resale" probably best to unload it on ebay or the Gaf Buy/Sell thread as I'm sure someone will want to pick it up.

I just noticed the resolution of the picture. :lol Did you resize it yourself?
