Final Fantasy XIII post-release comparison/garbage thread

Biggest technical problem with the original version of the game by far. Who the fuck doesn't include AF in this day and age?
I agree -- the craziest thing is that from the comparison screens it seems like they're using 2xAF or around that on 360.

Regarding your second question though, tons of console games still have no or insufficient AF.

I want PC version..........
just imagine, with 16x AF and better AA this game can look unbelievable, not to mention 1080p resolution , who knows maybe NVIDIA throws some money at square for their launch of GTX 4XX and get this game ported, this game with 3D Vision = AVATAR. I should stop dreaming :P, PS3 version is good enough for now:lol

AF is expensive on current gen consoles though. Bandwidth issues.
really? H have 16x AA in nvidia control panel always forced on , the impact on FPS is negligible at best and I only have a 9800gtx+. 4x should be doable on consoles.

OMG, was it expy? He's got nearly as bad of a hard-on for downplaying the 360 version as you do. :lol

No. It was someone who has the 360 copy.

Okay, I am at Nautilus Park (disc 2), and it is constantly HORRIBLE.
Staggering, 10-15fps.

Promotional copy, EU game + 360.
Very, very bad, and it has yet to go away.

Happy?

Presumably most of the people in this thread have already purchased their copy of Final Fantasy XIII.

What's the point of continuing to post in this thread?

We already know if you have both consoles that the PS3 version is the better version.

Final Fantasy XIII in High Definition, is still a PlayStation 3 exclusive.

[Edit: Ok, I'm being silly. We can all leave now, the game is out.]

Because 1) some people are interested in the technology side, and 2) so far tech impressions have only been posted for halfway through the game (and only the first hour of the game in depth).

And we also gets gems like this:

Its like those before and after wrinkle cream advertisements, but in the case the picture with the wrinkles is the better version. :lol

The definitive version is on PS3 which will also get the exclusive, FINAL FANTASY versus XIII. I want my FF games under one banner, the P and the S.

Yes, but you can't even begin to compare a modern PC with a console when it comes to bandwidth. :P

doable sure, but it's still expensive

So I know everyone was bitching that each 360 disc left about 1GB off that could have been used towards making the videos look better. But it just dawned on me that they probably left the extra space off intentionally for future GOTY editions that may include all the DLC on the disc.

I think Digital-Hero is having some fun with you guys. His posting history indicates he enjoys playing games on both platforms.

I don't think someone who likes halo and buying these stuffs are what you normally associate with pro-sony folks.

But search is gone, so unless someone recognizes his name from other threads, there's no way they can know what kind of post history he has. Jokes that require the context of your previous posts to indicate the sarcasm are sort of pointless anymore.

Or maybe people could be less serious about silly things!

I thought it was pretty obvious that he was joking around with his comments.

Anyway, you can use google to search gaf. It actually works pretty well.

Nautilus and Pulse apparently have issues, dropping down to 15fps in some places.

Argh Pulse too? Anyone knows if the viewing distance on the 360 is the same or if it was changed?

WrikaWrek said:
You do know that you can't even begin to notice a difference of 0.02 frames missed in a second right?
Such difference should be tremendous for someone like you with a superhuman ability to wiggle the analog stick repeatedly as fast as you can repeatedly push down a button! :P

Skilletor said:

People were being serious? I assume most of them didn't care enough to google the guy, they just used emoticons and moved on with their lives. Not very serious at all. Just saying that sarcasm is dangerous on GAF to begin with but right now while search is out you're even more likely to be misunderstood.

Also was making the point that it would be really awesome if search would come back and make our lives easier again.

It works well for thread topics, but not so great for specific users. You either tend to find the active thread you're currently already in or really random old things. Nearly impossible to figure out why someone was banned, for example.

I'm curious if that missing foliage was due to pop-in or if it was just completely gone.

I am leaning towards getting the PS3 version because of the "pros" it has appeals to me more. Square does some crazy CG work and it would be nice to see that in all its glory.

IMO.

But I got a situation. I can trade in 2 games to get this for free. But the PS3 version is sold out so I can only do this deal for the 360 version.

Is the 360 version that much worse that I might be disappointed with my decision? Like I said I would like to see Square's CG and art in it's best form...but is the 360 version that bad when it comes to the CG parts?

I played my brothers 360 version after putting in a good 7 hrs into the ps3 version, I immediately noticed how much more blurrier the 360 version was, it just had this blurry washed out look.

PS3 version is sold out? What store? There should be plenty of stock... they'll probably get more in a day or two.

According to the thread the cutscenes on the 360 are compressed. On PS3 they run at 1080p with lossless audio. On 360 they run at 576p with compressed audio. According to posters with the 360 version the cutscenes still look very good, though some mention blurriness.

I have the PS3 version displaying on a 720p native screen, for what it's worth. The game is gorgeous.

Yeah I'm aware of the stark difference and so I was wondering if 576p does an injustice to Square's CG work.

This trade in deal also works for God of War 3 so I might do it for that. I'll pick up FF13 later I guess.

I believe the deal is valid until the end of the month. So they'll definitely have more FF13 in. Probably even before the end of the week. And yeah, the CGs are really amazing in 1080p, definitely worth seeing that way.

Check another store. FFXIII can't be sold out everywhere. They probably printed 2 million copies.

3 days only. All stores in my city sold out. Called one and they said there isn't another shipment coming in soon.

Yeah I think I'll definitely get the PS3 version at some point or another. Maybe used.

It was just a chance at getting one for free and I was thinking that a free 360 version wouldn't satisfy me and I should get a used PS3 copy later instead to get the better version for me.

At almost every store in the Greater Vancouver region. Maybe they shipped less copies to Canada? Like I said in the other topic, the EB I frequent most often had 500 pre-orders (combined I think). They got 17 copies of it in today and sold out within an hour. 360 copies are left, but PS3 version is sold out everywhere. Best Buy, Future Shop, EB... People are only finding 'em at stores nobody knows carries games like Sears.

Wait, you're doing the BB deal? What games are you using? Check out Rogers Plus and Future Shop. They have a similar promo.

They actually shipped more PS3 copies than 360, and I think that goes for almost ALL the big retail chains in Canada. Here in Montreal, you can still find the PS3 copy (if you're lucky); my friend told me he found a few at Future Shop in Marché Centrale. 360 version is easy to find though, plenty left in stock, in fact when I went to Fairview Pointe-Claire to pick up my PS3 copy in the morning, only 1 person in the line (at Best Buy) was picking up the 360 version, we were about 8. EB Games had a little bigger lineup, maybe 20 people.

That too, but I guess nobody is on Pulse yet?

Chapter XI, HORRIBLE, I mean HORRIBLE framerate.
Finally you are out of the wild, big view distance, huge monsters, and near unbearable fps. It is staggering. It is like I am trying to run a good pc game with a bad pc. Except that I cant upgrade. Horrible.

This should be a relaxing farming / hunting place. Take out the relaxing part.

That's the area that I noticed a huge drop in frames in the GT comparison video.

Edit:

Check @ 1:33
To me, there's an obvious drop of frames in the 360 version there.

The port is reaching awful levels.Chpater 8 was mainly one zone, but the that's too much.Although I watched one videos of the 360 version on that area and didn't look that bad

I would love to say "nah, it is nothing serious", but yeah, it kinda is, because this game looks the best when the movements are fluid. I noticed that the key is ALWAYS in the number of objects. If I am out in the open, and somehow I see zero monster, framerate is better. But when monster are in my line of sight, it is a slowdown, constantly.

Lucky for us that the second part of this area is ... foggy. Meaning less viewdistance, and less monsters.
