Have been playing Uncharted for the last two hours and ten minutes without any freezes or framerate drops. Picked right up from my Crushing save file midway through the game and have had no issues, beyond cursing at the game for being an asshole on this difficulty level.

60GB unit here, for what's it's worth.

Played Uncharted on Hard as I kind of intended to do some day...just to test. No crashes to report in 2 hours of play. Now I'm sick of Uncharted...thanks a lot GAF for making me feel the need to play a game when I didn't want to.

Weird, not sure if this is related but I just got heavenly sword in the mail. Played through the first tutorial area and during the gameplay the audio kept blipping on and off. Really freaking annoying. I just deleted the game data and reinstalled... Hopefully that does the trick =/

Also just beat uncharted with no real issues.

Just played an hour or two of Uncharted (picking up from a mid-game save) post 3.0 with no problems. This is on a very early release 60 GB machine.

I don't know if I was looking for problems, but I did notice some things as I was playing:

1) The fan seemed to kick in earlier and louder than usual.
2) When I first started the game the drive was making a lot of noise for the first couple of minutes, something I'd never noticed before.
3) I noticed some weird depth of field issues in the game, where close camera angles would cause Drake to get all blurry. I had never noticed these before.

Those are all normal.

1) Fan kicks in because this game is using a a lot of cpu/gpu power.
2) A lot of media streaming going on. Constant disc access. Not many games have this so it's a rare occurrence and noticeable.
3) That blurry thing has been there since release. It's dumb. I hope it's not in U2 because you can't get any good closeups on the models.

The game is has it's far share of problems (first two aren't problems in my eyes). Solid first effort none the less.

I played the first 5 levels of Uncharted yesterday. No problems so far. Fingers crossed. I hope the problems with Firmware 3.0 are not so wide spreaded. Because PS3 could really use some expansion of its user base with the slim just released and all that shit.

Edit: Forgot to mention, I'm in a 60Gb early release European model.

I had loading with doors in 2.80. It only started happening after the whole island was opened up. Kind of reminds me of how doors open in metroid.

It was always like that. It even has a "Door opening" message.

I'm sure it was not intentional. Sony is usually good about firmware hotfixes.

For what it's worth, I played an hour or so of Wipeout HD last night on 3.0 without any crashes, freezes, or sound problems.
80 GB PS3
PS3 video to TV through HDMI, sound to receiver through optical connection.
After downloading the firmware update, my PS3 did rebuild the database and reboot.

Any excuse to play Uncharted some more is fine by me, so I played chapter one through three yesterday, and it was running perfectly fine, just the same as it always did for me.
I tried some SSDHD after that, and in about half an hour of playing it was running fine as always. Slim / 3.0 here. I'm beginning to think that this might be hardware issue for some people, that just coincided with 3.0 release?

Does it actually do the freezing for you or are you relying on what others here are saying?

It is? Dammit, now I don't know what to buy, I keep hearing different things! One more week to go for me hopefully, I need to buy the stand first. That stand is impossible to find.

It's less noisy than 80GB, and by the same token 40GB, unless the unit has a defective fan maybe. My ears, and measurements I did, wouldn't lie about that. On a negative side, the fan noise is not drowning HDD noise anymore, so I can hear that a bit more even though I'm using the same HDD. I really wish I could just stick to the single platter Toshiba 120GB that comes with slim as it's completely silent, but it's just not enough capacity for me.

Are there any Toshiba-silent 250GB HDDs available for purchase? I don't know if such silent single-platter HDDs are going to be slower than my WD Scorpio though?

The slim doesn't have Firmware 3.0 pre-installed does it? If not then you can just hold off on updating until they release a fix and play Uncharted in the meantime.

Those with major Batman issues have you tried deleting the local data and re-installing? I had a bug where the d-pad would cause a green line to appear and black out half the screen. Deleting the game data and re-installing fixed it.
