Firmware 3.0 broke my Uncharted!

jett said:
3.0 has changed how the PS3 access the Hard Drive, I think. I've noticed increased stuttering in KZ2 when the game autosaves. It's not a big deal, but it definitely wasn't there before. It's strange though how Uncharted locks up in different places for everyone, which is why I'm guessing for most cases it's actually the disc and not the PS3. :P
While I don't agree with your theory about why uncharted locks up now, I did just play through KZ2 again with 3.00 and it stutters hard and long at times. It did not do that anywhere near this degree back when I first played the game. I thought it was hard locking at times it took so long to load. When I played it back in February the stutters for loading would be super quick and not much of an issue. Glad I did my 3rd play through of uncharted the weekend before 3.00 though.

ND is to blame for the firmware bugs, right?[\quote]

well, I'm running off the assumption that ND created the trophy patch, and the issue has been around since then and before 3.00. Everyone and their brothers bought PS3's over the last 2 week's so the problems in the spotlight again, but yeah, that's the best way that I know to feel justified for buying a bugged game is not buying the sequel. I'd kick myself if the same garbage happened to me in U2 after buying it.
But all these other stories I'm seeing on here of other games freezing up on people has me scratching my head and worrying a bit...

It absolutely wasn't. Tons of people replayed the game after the trophy patch, and no one complained that it added any kind of instability that wasn't there before.
Besides, all the people complaining about game locking up now, have tried deleting the patch file, and it didn't change anything for them.

Hmm, well shit, then. {shrugs} no idea. Hopefully all of these freezing issues will get fixed soon, as I'd kinda like to finish Uncharted before the second one comes out (assuming I break down, buy it, and convince myself ND had nothing to do with this :p). And not really looking forward to seeing Batman, KZ2, or numerous other PS3 games in my pile freeze up on me.
Out of curiosity, has anyone with the freezing problem contacted Sony, and what was their stance/reply to the question?

Damn. I was about to start it, but with all these reports of freezing and crashing I'd rather not risk it (especially with a 60GB). Any word on an update?

There's no risk man just try it.

Yeah, stutter is sometimes REAL long in KZ2 since update...

It's ridiculous how many people are afraid of this and won't even TRY the game because of this "problem".

Dude, I have money burning to be spent on Uncharted,
when it's fixed that is
. I am not going to buy a game I know won't play on my Ps3. It's bloody fantastic. Uncharted does not work on any Playstation 3 as of 12 days. That's almost 2 weeks.

I would be pissed if I bough a Slim Ps3 and picked up Uncharted and have just it lying around because of the firmware breaking it

I played through the entire game yesterday. No freezes. My friend Jason did the same thing only a couple days after 3.00, no freezes. Hm =/

What's your model? I been checking this thread and no one has talked about the 40gb model. I have that and I haven't had any funny business with firmware 3 and my library of Ps3 games.

Finished the game. Zero freezes. I think you need to rescind the "any PlayStation 3" comment. 60gb PS3.

Fyi: You can still play the game from beginning to end. Just delete that System Data if it freezes and launch back into the game. Out of five friends, only one had this issue and this resolved it for him. It's not a perfect system, but a great solution for those not willing to wait for a patch.

The only lock-up my friend experiences was after a checkpoint, so it was not a big issue with him having to replay sections.

Well, managed to get several hours into Uncharted before it froze. Now whenever I load my save it'll freeze after a few seconds. I've got a Slim here.

Does removing the Uncharted System Data delete any saves or anything?

Nope. Go ahead. Saved data is a totally different file.

Like the cool bloke above said, remove the Data and you're good to go.

So I'm doing my mandatory replay of Uncharted before U2 comes out, playing on my MGS4 80GB PS3 and I've had no problems. Up to chapter 9.

Just want to chime in that I just started chapter 11 and haven't had any issues, again. I still don't understand how the swap-load fix worked for me and the game data thing didn't. Seems like deleting the game data works for most people, and then the swap-load works for some, and then others are just shit out of luck.

Anyone who has deleted the game data and are still having problems, try the swap-load trick: turn on your PS3, begin a downloaded game (be it a demo or PSN title), immediately quit once you reach the main menu (or play the game for a bit, if you like), and then boot Uncharted. Seems to fix whatever issue the game has with playing nice with FW3.0.

It sounds like a bug in Uncharted that has been brought to light by the current firmware, which would mean that the fix would have to come from ND. Maybe now that UC2 is gold they can quickly patch UC1?

If there is one thing this thread has done for me, it's get me to check my Uncharted, see that it doesn't freeze...and finally get that Platinum Trophy. Thank you OP.

I will be getting a Platinum as well as soon as they fix it to stop crashing.

Uncharted is locking up on my new PS3 Slim 100% of the time at the exact same location: the cutscene that plays in Chapter 11 after Elena shows you something important in her video camera.

Tried deleting the system data update. Didn't help.

mine just froze at the
jeep chase scene with elena

will try again to see if it freezes on me...

lol, same here. no problems until there...

I suppose there arent any news as of yet...?
ND/Sony, fix it!!

Freind of mine bought a slim and is having problems.

I hadn't heard about it yet so i tried it out on my launch 60gb ps3.

Up to chapter 7 and no freeze...

As for killzone , yes , the loading seems a lot worse.

Its not a deal breaker but it does suck.

I am sorry for the some late replies here.

They should just revert back to old firmware for now...
Ye, that might have been a temporary solution indeed, i agree. If it doesnt causes some compability issues while playing online with people who have firmware 3.00 installed though, but i dont know if a compability issue like this would occur even with different firmwares though.

Ok, last night i posted about how my 3 month old 80GB suddenly YLOD on me, and i thought it might be 3.0 related....(for those who say firmware cant brick systems, dont forget the 2.41 debacle when it DID brick certain PS3s and Sony replaced them).
Ye, firmware 2.40 (2.41 was the fixed firmware by the way :)) did brick som PS3 consoles indeed, but did these bricked console got YLOD? I thought that they simply wouldnt start or something, as in getting a black screen and no XMB/picture on the screen. But i might be wrong though :)

Anywho...so i had bought my 80GB at Walmart. Before the 1 yr warranty you have 90 days to return it to Walmart if it has issues. As of last night i was 1 week over 90 days. On a whim this morning i called Walmart and asked for a manager and pleaded my case.

They BEYOND hooked me up....I was able to exchange my YLOD 80GB for a new Slim (since thats all they carry), AND since i had bought my 80 GB for $400, they also gave me back $118 cash (the price difference plus the cost of my old 2 yr extended warranty), and they gave me a new 2 yr ext warranty for my Slim! Walmart customer for life right here!!! :lol

Anyhow....Slim was hooked up tonite, and im back with 3.0 again. So far, everythings great, and the Slim is quite a sexy beast too!!
Ah, that is really cool to hear! :) Nice that you got a new PS3 and even some money back :) It would have sucked if had to buy a new PS3 because that the warranty had expriced on your older PS3.

I think that the 60GB PS3 models are the once that have had the least problems with Uncharted. But i can understand if you dont want to risk it because i dont know if it is too good for the PS3 hardware if a game freezes (or can the PS3 hardware take damage if games freezes by the way?). It might be better to wait for an update that fix the problems indeed :) Unfortunately i dont think that there are any word on an firmware update yet :\

Is there any special place in KZ2 where the game stutters for a real long time? I only tried one place in the game (early in the game when you fly down to some market, unfortunately i cant remember the name of this level) and the in-level loading only lasted for about 1 second or so for me there.

EDIT: I added some text.

After beating the game and then connecting my Slim to the internet to download 3.0. The game crashed on my second play through at the part where Nate props the door open for Sully in Chapter 2.

That's where I crashed 3 times in a row. Updated to 3.01 but haven't tested Uncharted again. It figures that it was broken when it was the only game I had, and they fix it just when I get a new game to play (MUA2).

I'm glad to hear the problems with Uncharted are fixed. I would feel really bad for Naughty Dog if problems with a firmware affected the sales of Uncharted 2. I don't think that's going to happen, though. The enthusiasm for Uncharted 2 seems to be picking up rapidly.

By the way, can someone who had freezing problems with Battlefield 1943 or any other games confirm if firmware 3.01 fixed the freezing problems?

MUA2? Marvel Ultimate Alliance 2?

Ye, i hope that people who had freezing issues with Uncharted think that it was the game's fault and think that there will be problems in Uncharted 2 as well. I think that basicly everyone here on NeoGAF knows that it was the firmware 3.00 that caused the freezing problems Uncharted, but i am mostly thinking about people who dont read up on forums and websites etc. about what caused the freezing in Uncharted.

Can anyone give any feedback on their experience with the game after installing 3.01?

I updated last night for the same reason many of you did; I wanted to finish this game before the release of U2. Now I hadn't had any problems up until chapter 15 (or is it 16?):
Right where the weird monsters start attacking.
That's when a few graphical glitches started showing up and the game froze as soon as the chase part of the chapter started.

As you can tell this is my first time reaching this part of the game, my last play through ended for some odd reason around chapter 7.

Is this one of the problems some of you faced after installing the previous update? or is this that one random bug everyone mentioned a long time ago when the game was released that hasn't been been fixed (I vaguely remember someone bringing it up.)

Come on people, I need some feedback please. I must finish this game tonight.

Bingo.
Just try it again later, it should go through.

Hmmm, I think you're right. It worked on my third try; did my equipped weapons had anything to do with it? I don't know. All I know is that I tried a different set on that try and it worked.

Game went back to running fine, thanks.

Sorry to bump this but I was playing a little Uncharted after updating 3.01 because I was going to let a coworker borrow it. And around Chapter 16-17 roaming the
corridor of the underground Nazi base
just a random freeze out of nowhere.

And it's been a while since I've played UC, but the loading times felt unnaturally long. Should I delete my save games, or do anything else? Wouldn't mind starting from scratch as a warm-up for UC2.

There seems to be a bug that was never fixed that causes the game to freeze towards the end of the game, every time - that was never fixed. I had it freeze back when I finished the game when it first came out, and recently played though it 3 full times a few months back for the trophies and it froze around that point all 3 times.

As for the loads, the initial coin spinning load at the start is fairly long, but that's normal.
