Firmware Version 2.00 - Official Press Release

Oh ffs Sony, just put in-game xmb access in already, srsly wtf, low hanging fruit or not, this is THE priority instead of some fucking media-file tweak. I need to be able to send a message even when I'm in a game to a friend who's playing another game to get the FUCK off his game to play me online rawr. Right now the current set-up is like playing phone-tag.

LOL 600+ Replies to the FW post on the blog.... LOL

I tried to read some of the responses to see if the OP responded on the official blog, and it's worse then Gamefaqs.

Anyways any chance this goes up at midnight?

Yep. A good chance. I don't think they want to fuck with people's downloads tomorrow by requiring the update right before the store stuff hits.

You guys are gonna LOVE the PSN banner this week. Chubs out did himself again. :lol

It would be cool if we could get the XMB just by tapping the PSbutton, and get that menu when you hold it for 2 seconds.

Imagine how nice it would be to browse PS Store content like you browse the video/music/photo collection on your hard drive, with everything integrated right into the XMB. Instant (and coherent) organization, slick, smooth, no web pages to load or images to break, it would be very nice
That wouldn't work quite as well as you envision it. It's already hard enough to browse through the 650 songs on my PS3 hard drive. I couldn't imagine browsing through a PSstore with thousands of items in it.

The webpage needs to look nicer, but it's a pretty decent interface.

Is it a picture of Consul?

You can also bring up the XMB while reproducing a movie (not disc based), a song, a picture slideshow or surfing the web all the while the Remote Play is in progress.
That's so odd indeed.
Technically, remote-play doesn't really have any memory overhead (render buffers in remoteplay only needing 480x272 easily saves you those 8MB(or more) that the module supposedly demands).

how good is the remote play? I don't have a PSP anymore after bricking my last one, but if in theory I could switch on my PS3, access the PSN store to start downloading demos + trailers etc, and stream to my PSP over the internet, it might be worth buying a slim+light
That's exactly what it does, as well as being able to access some of the games remotely etc.

The decimal represents a demarcation between version designations (major, minor, patch, etc). That doesn't change.
Oh come ON now... You're arguing the importance of engineering standards for version numbering and in the same breath labeling an update as "not major enough" by your own subjective user standards.

If I work on some software and say, do a complete rewrite of one of the underlying low-level subsystems (eg. memory management) you better believe I will label that a MAJOR revision, even though no user might ever notice a difference from that change alone.

By your own reasoning, if this update is not deserving of a major number increment, versioning ought to be handled by Marketing (which would obviously decide major releases based on their market/userbase research as opposed to any actual development updates). And if that were the case, why the #### would marketing give a flying #### about any standard versioning systems, all they care about would be to showcase whatever/whenever they want to showcase it.

I have a theory.

Home will be the best way to communicate/message/invite friends to games.

XMB in game won't happen.

Home will be the only option for serious online gaming.

Everyone will want/have to download Home.

Home will cost money.

Sony will be rich.

That's not a good theory.

So is this going to come out tomorrow before uncharted forcing me to update and slow my download?

Right after southpark, perfect. :D

LOL I was watching South Park too. It was totally in the middle of the ending of the show and I said fuck it, I'm switching over to the PS3 and downloading the update. Holy Assassin's Creed.

Installing now.

There was something in the patch notes about grouping Games and Video. I wonder if there's going to be new options.

Holy Shit. It's done. Gotta go.

EDIT: Updating database? What is this? That's new.

Game Folders is in!!! Wish granted.

You can group by format which does PS3 or PS1 folders or you can group by album. Then you just have to go to information and assign a group to your content. :D

information board is garbage, it has such earth shattering news as star wars psp on sale now, and uncharted takes advantage of the ps3, no joke that is really 2 news items...

Sweet, wondered why I was disconnected from PSN (playing Arcade Mode in COD4).

It's downloading pretty fast, already at 10%
