Firmware Version 2.00 - Official Press Release

Ok I've just tried the new firmware.

The best things for me are the unannounced ones :lol :lol

Streaming videos over the PSN
Much faster browser (now they just need to update the flash player to play GT videos)
Onimusha1 finally works on PAL 60GB :D :D (but still no Oni2)
New video chat interface
New sorting options in the game and video categories.

Custom themes are nice but I'm waiting for cool game based themes on the PSN.
Information board is a disappointement, it's just a window with links to recent articles on the official PS website. Unless they start to link really interesting and useful things this feature will be a failure.

But videos benefit the most. However, it's strange that in a folder, the video thumbnail doesn't work anymore. It's always at frame 1.

No option to set a picture as the thumbnail though...not even for folders.

Yes, I also noticed this. It's a shame Sony let this slip through.
 
not a bad update, I love the customization and sorting options and I'll be using my PSP for waking up my PS3 from my workplace too but... I have to say it, Soul Calibur III still runs like crap at least on PAL 60 GB machines... software emulation isn't at the level I was expecting at all and it won't get any better it seems :'(
 
yep, after turning ON the Remote Start option my PS3 wakes up spontaneously and goes right in Remote Play mode.

how do u stream videos over PSN? What do u mean?
 
Hmm, when downloading demos/games from the store you can't place them straight into your custom folders which is annoying actually.

Also, can you change the icon of the folder? I'm stuck with the GT Prologue demo icon and want to change it.

And yup remote start issues here too - system turning on randomly, and if I wake the PS3 via remote play I always get a connection error and I have to engage remote play via the PSP again to get it working.

That you can now watch movies while you download them from the store before you have finished to download them. It's really cool, especially for big files.

Sort after "Last played game", and run the game you want to be shown as the folder icon. The game will then be placed at the top of the list, and that is the icon that is shown. The only way atm I know of.
 
Woah, I am so keeping the Nature theme from the JPN page. Really fitting for this time of the year :D

No the icon is that of the game on top of your sorted list.
So the best you can do is to change the order of the list so that the game you want to be featured in the icon jumps on top.
 
Im kinda disappointed that if you sort videos by album they lose the video feature. Its just the first frame of the video icon you made for them :\
 
This isn't directly 2.0 related, but there's a new button on the Japanese store to seemingly buy just the item, instead of "Add to Shopping cart".

So instead of:

Find item -> Add to cart -> Checkout -> (payment options) -> Download

It can be:

Find item -> Buy item -> (payment options) -> Download

Good of them to save a step. Hope this makes it to the US store.

lol I didn't notice that. What I noticed is that you can now hit Triangle over a video in the download manager and then select Play there.

has anyone noticed that when the playstation turns on spontaneously and goes to remote play mode, it signs you into the network? meaning, if a friend of yours is online, they will get a notification every 2-3 minutes that you've signed in/out
 
- Visual Player while playing music has slightly different effects going on. Play around with the right stick to see them.

- There is now an Add to Playlist option in the on-screen menu you bring up with Triangle in both Music and Photo. Very handy.

- In Photo, there is a new "Fade" option for when manually scrolling through the photos.

Sadly I've decided to turn off the Remote Start option to avoid this auto turn-on crap. Which is kinda funny considering this was ment to be the biggest point of the update... Sony needs to fix this yesterday.

I'm suspecting a couple of things here as the cause of this issue:

a) the media server
b) checking the remote start via internet option

I have disabled the media server and unchecked the second. System seems to be staying off.

I'll wait another 5 minutes and then I'll try checking the remote start via internet option and leave the media server off.

If nothing bad happens again, then it'd definetly be an issue with the media server.

It's probably not something you want to keep on at all times anyways. Note that PS3's fan is actually working when that option is activated and the console is on. To me it seems like a feature you turn on when you're a few days away from home, on a vacation etc.

I don't have this random turning on problem, but I do have a problem where the console takes too long to wake up, and PSP reports "connection error". But it does wake up, and if I reconnect again, it all works fine. It's like that every single time.

Are u testing it locally or via internet?
 
so, a question (homebrew). I have a PSP 1.5. I haven't used my PSP for ANYTHING besides homebrew so I've never left or looked at how to go past 1.5.

Is there a way for me to install like an emulator of some sort to boot into 3.72 while still retaining 1.5 on my actual firmware?

Media server - Disabled
Remote Start via Internet - Checked

PS3 automatically turns on after around 8 minutes.

It's definetly the Remote Start via Internet option that causes unwanted auto-starts. If I uncheck it (meaning I can remotely start the PS3 only locally via Ad Hoc WiFi PSP-PS3 connection) it stays off.

Not at all. Actually, this 2.0 update was the fastest I ever experienced. Took like 5 minutes.

Via internet. I only tried it AdHoc once, and it didn't worked, but then I realized I was using PSP with custom firmware that doesn't support this feature.

I took the other PSP, but forgot to re-test AdHoc (via internet it works as I described above)

The only thing I know of is a bit of lag in the XMB when the info board has to load and the video icon previews aren't working when they're in folders. :(

There is also a "bug" where they don't allow me to sort games by Title Name.
 
I encountered a bug when you quit a game and return to custom XMB theme, the XMB will lag. Had to sign out and sign in again.
 
Is it just me or online update is so fucking piss poor? It took me for than 2 hours to reach to 16% just to found out it went error on me and I have restart it.


When will that firmware download appear on PS3 website....
