^ Hahahaha

The trailer totally surpassed what I was expecting, given those early photos of the strange looking robots and such. I was impressed with the way Chris Evans looks before and after the experiment. Cool trailer, will be seeing this movie.

It was a cool moment, and I appreciate Cap's embodiment of WW2 patriotism; however, as a non-american I've always found the character to be somewhat politically off-putting. I had the same problem with the first Iron Man. That's always been my fear with this movie, but setting it in World War 2 places Cap in the perfect context since patriotic sentiment was so rampant and important back then.

By the way, it's not that I'm anti-American. I definitely am not, but imagine watching a movie about Captain Canuck, a character whose sole purpose is to represent Canadian pride. Yah..seems a bit irrelevant to everyone else, no?

Still, like I said, I'm a big Marvel fan and very eager to see this.

I'll be interested to see just how badly this does internationally as well. Jingoism aside, people just don't know who this character is, same with Thor, Green Latern and all the rest of the naff looking superhero movies in production.

There's a ton of market research that proves this wrong.

Marvel was originally just to going to title the movie "The First Avenger" in international markets, but outside of South Korea and a couple other countries, enough people were familiar with the character to keep it titled Captain America.

How does that prove anything wrong? Nobody would know WTF "The First Avenger" was on title alone, whereas most people have at least heard the name "Captain America".

I wouldn't care....bring on Capt. Canuck!

I feel like I should point out that I'm British. I only posted the jpeg because it is posted on NeoGAF quite a lot, and it seemed like the perfect jokey response to hteng's post.

I also haven't read the issues of The Ultimates in which that image is printed.

It looks forgettable, which is a big improvement compared to how Thor and Green Lantern are looking.

There was actually a guy who played Howard Stark in IM1, but it was in like the newspaper/magazine clips montage. They recast him for IM2 because the guy wasn't really an actor. :lol

Yeah, I totally forgot about that.

Thats not actually the case though, is it? Being forgettable is the worst offense possible. If a movie is epicly awesome or epicly terrible, you will remember it. Nothing worse than indifference.

The Capt America / Capt Planet crossover would've happened if Al Gore was elected president of the USA.

True story
for which I have no sources whatsoever

I loved Millar's Nationalist Ultimate Cap precisely because he was an asshole.
If I had never read a Captain America comic before, I would probably love it. I liked a lot of the Ultimate variations to iconic Marvel characters, but Ultimate Cap just annoyed me.

Was Tony Stark's father involved? If you listen closely @ 1:13 his name is brought up.

Yeah, a few people discussed it:

One of the scientists is Mr Stark?

Gary Whitta said:
Is this now the third actor to play Howard Stark?

Teh Hamburglar said:
Iron Man's dad. You can also see a shield on Tony's workbench in Iron Man.

Papa stark was a shield agent, him and Reed Richard's father fucked shit up for SCIENCE!

Yah Howard Stark is in this (Recast again). Looks to be from when he was a Scientist/Engineer, before he became a corporate giant.

Edit, beat.

The guy's name is Captain AMERICA and people are complaining about patriotism?
I remember people arguing about it when the movie was announced. Saying it won't be well received overseas and some saying it was insulting.

It is what the A stands for (and infinitely better than the Liefeld eagle), but it just horribly written.

Ugh, I had forgotten about that. :(

Incidentally, that also reminded me of Liefelds other creation, the Fighting American or some shit. :(

I thought, along with Hippie Thor, it was just a great interpretation of the character. Whereas I think his latest Ultimate run must just be him spiting Marvel for fucking up the universe he helped create, his Ultimates books are full of really impressive re-imaginings of classic characters. Yes, even Nick Fury. I'm that crazy.

I mean, it's kind of obvious but still pretty smart. Cap's just a soldier from the 40's dropped into modern day. He's a living, breathing weapon, trained solely to defend American interests. Of course he's gonna be an over-patriotic dick. He's basically one of those ignorant old men that you run into.

I'm sure that this has been brought up before in this thread, but the biggest problem I have with Cap in his weaker, pre-serum form is his voice. Someone so small shouldn't have such a deep voice.

I can agree with that assessment. And I did like most of the Ultimates' re-imaginings of characters. It was just that Cap was too much of an asshole. He didn't seem like a leader and a defender like the original universe one was, and that just turned me off to the ultimate version.

I did really like the WWII costume that Hitch created for the series, which they are using for the film.

Yeah, I love both that costume and the costume he wears for Ultimates 2, which I believe has also heavily influenced the other movie costume.

The movie doesn't interest me that much, but good LORD is Chris Evans a good-looking man.

I say this as a fully heterosexual man, by the way.

If Edgar Wright can have a man-crush on him, so can you.

As a fully heterosexual man, I can agree with that as well. He was always a goofy pretty boy before, but after seeing him buffed to the size of a house in this, I had to go "damn."

I also find the part in the trailer where he first emerges from the serum treatment to be funny. The nurse in the background is practically drooling, and Peggy Carter just can't resist touching him either.

Also whats with the Green Lantern hate? Did i miss a horrific trailer or something; because last i checked, Thor was easily shaping up to be the worst superhero flick this year.

Apparently you did. Going by what we've seen so far, Thor looks much better than Green lantern.

I don't know where all this "terrible trailer" talk is coming from. I think it is just super hero fatigue. The worst trailer of the super hero lot was "Green Lantern."

I am excited for all three movies (Thor, Cap, Green Lantern) just because I am a comic geek. Cap is the one I am the most excited about just because I love the character, and while Green Lantern is looking the worst of them all based on trailers and stills, I have high hopes just because Martin Campbell is involved and expect to be surprised by it.

Is there much hate for Ultimate Nick Fury in general? Personally I think it was quite an interesting take on the character, although I haven't read any S.H.I.E.L.D-related comics. (This should hopefully be rectified when the recent S.H.I.E.L.D. miniseries gets collated into a TPB.)

Now, the problem with Nick Fury in the films is that you end up with Samuel L Jackson playing Samuel L Jackson, which can only ever come off as unconvincing.

I think the hatred stems more from the redesign than the actual character. Changing a character's race and, um, hairiness can really piss people off, apparently.

Skinny Chris Evans looks like he has some kind of weird illness :/

edit: Just noticed that they got the German wrong. "Platform" is written with two T in German "Plattform"...

I do not like Captain America. I never have. But that trailer was great and I'm surprisingly excited for this. I'm interested in the movie AND Captain America.

This looks interesting enough. The trailer was pretty good.

I understand there are also Thor, X-Men, Deadpool, Green Lantern movies coming soon? I'm always up for a superhero movie anyway.

For me:

Waste of Life

Daredevil
Elektra
Spiderman 3
Fantastic Four
Blade: Trinity
Punisher: War Zone
X3

There, added to your list. Surely you don't mind
