Blader5489 said:There's a ton of market research that proves this wrong.
Marvel was originally just to going to title the movie "The First Avenger" in international markets, but outside of South Korea and a couple other countries, enough people were familiar with the character to keep it titled Captain America.
Secret_Riddle said:It was a cool moment, and I appreciate Cap's embodiment of WW2 patriotism; however, as a non-american I've always found the character to be somewhat politically off-putting. I had the same problem with the first Iron Man. That's always been my fear with this movie, but setting it in World War 2 places Cap in the perfect context since patriotic sentiment was so rampant and important back then.
By the way, it's not that I'm anti-American. I definitely am not, but imagine watching a movie about Captain Canuck, a character whose sole purpose is to represent Canadian pride. Yah..seems a bit irrelevant to everyone else, no?
Still, like I said, I'm a big Marvel fan and very eager to see this.

Always hated that moment. Never liked Ultimate Cap either. He just came across as an asshole.gerg said:I feel this is obligatory:

If I had never read a Captain America comic before, I would probably love it. I liked a lot of the Ultimate variations to iconic Marvel characters, but Ultimate Cap just annoyed me.Mr. Sam said:I loved Millar'sNationalistUltimate Cap precisely because he was an asshole.

It is what the A stands for (and infinitely better than the Liefeld eagle), but it just horribly written.Leunam said:That is also what the A stands for.
I remember people arguing about it when the movie was announced. Saying it won't be well received overseas and some saying it was insulting.LosDaddie said::lol
The guy's name is Captain AMERICA and people are complaining about patriotism?

gerg said:I'm sure that this has been brought up before in this thread, but the biggest problem I have with Cap in his weaker, pre-serum form is his voice. Someone so small shouldn't have such a deep voice.
I can agree with that assessment. And I did like most of the Ultimates' re-imaginings of characters. It was just that Cap was too much of an asshole. He didn't seem like a leader and a defender like the original universe one was, and that just turned me off to the ultimate version.Mr. Sam said:I thought, along with Hippie Thor, it was just a great interpretation of the character. Whereas I think his latest Ultimate run must just be him spiting Marvel for fucking up the universe he helped create, his Ultimates books are full of really impressive re-imaginings of classic characters. Yes, even Nick Fury. I'm that crazy.
I mean, it's kind of obvious but still pretty smart. Cap's just a soldier from the 40's dropped into modern day. He's a living, breathing weapon, trained solely to defend American interests. Of course he's gonna be an over-patriotic dick. He's basically one of those ignorant old men that you run into.

As a fully heterosexual man, I can agree with that as well. He was always a goofy pretty boy before, but after seeing him buffed to the size of a house in this, I had to go "damn."Snowman Prophet of Doom said:The movie doesn't interest me that much, but good LORD is Chris Evans a good-looking man.

Also whats with the Green Lantern hate? Did i miss a horrific trailer or something; because last i checked, Thor was easily shaping up to be the worst superhero flick this year.

gerg said:Is there much hate for Ultimate Nick Fury in general? Personally I think it was quite an interesting take on the character, although I haven't read any S.H.I.E.L.D-related comics. (This should hopefully be rectified when the recent S.H.I.E.L.D. miniseries gets collated into a TPB.)
