First full trailer for Captain America: The First Avenger

I was holding out that it would be a little more campy and stylized, but this looks okay for a superhero movie... I'm a little partial to the idea of Captain America. The idea of his "inner struggle" being a dream to serve the country left unfulfilled and later possible negative side effects of the treatment is pretty cool. The alternate history WWII is cool too. Seeing how they would operate in Marvel's whacky world...

That said, it only looks okay. I'm sure the actual film will be garbage like so many others. At least the themes and stuff are ripe fro something different. No revenge or redemption here it seems.

Looks better than I expected. On the one water shot i thought they included Namor and got giddy the Intruders were going to be in the movie.

Where's bucky??
He's in the trailer.

Why did they have to make him so tiny? Couldn't he just be really thin and weak? a) He wouldn't look so ridiculous. b) Then the super soldier serum would just beef him up, rather than also changing his whole damn skeletal structure.

They also way over-compensate with the heights in the over-the-shoulder shots. Two-shots make him look super short and then in the over-the-shoulders he's suddenly the same level as the other person. I hate that shit.

Everything after the transformation looks like decent fun though.

My major gripe with the Rogers CGI is that he appears four feet tall. It just feels like they've overemphasizing how weak he is. I think a height comparable to Evans' real height would not only make more sense, but also look much better.

No real point in bitching about it though...

nah, he's supposed to be super tiny beforehand.

in the marvel movie universe (also in the Ultimate universe), when they try to recreate the super soldier program, you get things like the Hulk.

Union Jack and Dum Dum are awesome, but the silly comic book geek in me wants to see Namor and the Torch there instead.

Unfortunately
though probably for the best
, movie audiences wouldn't go for it, and the movie rights to those characters are probably tied up with the Fantastic Four franchise.
actually, WOULD the original Human Torch be locked up under Fox's rights to the Johnny Storm character?

The musical score for this movie better be good.

Yeah, Alan Silvestri is doing the OST. I'd prefer Hans Zimmer or HGW but i hope he doesn't let us down on this.

Movie looks awesome, much better than Thor.

Actually in a recent miniseries, Steve gets depowered and he ends up looking shorter a little than after he became a Super Soldier...though he's not THAT short like the movie shows @_@.

Trailer's great, and it looks to be an interesting movie.

Cap looks good! Way better than expected. Ranking my anticipation for the summers Super Hero slate, I'd have to say X-Men->Cap->Thor->Green Lantern. I don't think Green Lantern necessarily looks poor, we just haven't seen much apart from a mediocre trailer that couldn't settle on a tone.

Also, I'm going to join the party as well:

Note: In each category, films proceed from best to worst

Great

The Dark Knight
Batman Begins
Spider-Man 2
X-Men 2
Superman

Good

IronMan2
IronMan
Spider-Man
Hellboy 2
Batman Mask of Phantasm
Superman 2
X-Men
Hulk (sucker for how Ang Lee tackled this one)
V for Vendetta
Sin City
The Incredible Hulk (barely makes this category to be honest, I find it meh but it is technically well done. Especially the segments in Rio)
300
Superman Returns
Blade 1&2
Unbreakable (liked it more when I could bear popping a Shyamalan movie in my dvd player)

Average

Watchmen
Hellboy (Just not my cup of tea. Loved the sequel)
Batman Returns
Batman
Constantine
Not much fits this category for me. I find the genre to be particularly love it or hate it.

Awful

X-Men The Last Stand
Daredevil (directors cut elevates it to average)
Fantastic Four 2
Spider-Man 3
Wolverine
Batman Forever
Fantastic Four
Both of the Punishers.
Blade Trinity
Superman 3 and 4
Elektra
Batman and Robin
Ghost Rider (fucking can't stand this movie)
Catwoman

Am I missing anything? To be honest I'm only really passionate about the Nolan Batman films. I follow Marvels current slate with a lot of interest, but I still don't think they've topped their first couple of sequels (X2, Spider-Man 2). The Iron Man movies are fun. I think the first is a touch overrated, and the second is a touch underrated. To me they play like 1 very fun 4 hour long movie.

what the hell, I don't hear them talk at all...is it me or the trailer?

EDIT: okay, I get it, it's in dual channel. too bad because I'm deaf in one ear. :(

.

Your opinion is wrong in this case. Should be several categories down!

Are the pre-Captain America and the actual Captain America two different actors? Or does he just buff up?
Chris Evan's face CGI'd onto another actor.

Also whats with the Green Lantern hate? Did i miss a horrific trailer or something; because last i checked, Thor was easily shaping up to be the worst superhero flick this year.

This made me realize that, despite having read a reasonable amount of comics in my day, I had no clue of the origin of Captain America.

I've never read a comic so I don't know anything about Captain America, but I think this looks OK, just (some of the CGI dweeb shots look absolutely awful). However Marvel have such a terrible, terrible track record in films that I'm not going to hold out any hope.

I'll be interested to see just how badly this does internationally as well. Jingoism aside, people just don't know who this character is, same with Thor, Green Latern and all the rest of the naff looking superhero movies in production.

From a completely never read the comics not American neutral viewpoint

That was one of the worst trailers ive ever seen

I see plenty, this and thor take the cake though, and im all about comic book movies for what its worth

Looks like it might be one of the few great comic book to film adaptations.

I love how it's set in the 40s, I think that's giving it the most appeal for me personally.

the shield thing looks fucking dumb, yo.

I thought the shield would never work in a movie and it still looks kind of odd. But when you figure that Cap is supposed to be a symbol on the battlefield, the context helps make it less annoying. But the shield is Cap's defining piece of weaponry in the comics and they couldn't possibly drop it.

So I guess we'll see how it plays out in the film.

What's so bad about it? Not a fan of the comics....only thing I remember about Captain America was the ridiculously hard SNES game. What's so particularly bad about the trailer though? Only thing I see stupid is the part where he's swimming....looks ridiculous. Other than that, it looks like a normal dumb, but fun summer film.

I'm sure that this has been brought up before in this thread, but the biggest problem I have with Cap in his weaker, pre-serum form is his voice. Someone so small shouldn't have such a deep voice.

Alan Silvestri. Don't expect much - his BTTF days are LONG behind him.

Are you shitting me Solo?

Van Helsing
G.I. Joe
The Mummy/Mummy Returns
Cast Away

These are fantastic scores. He still writes incredibly energetic, thematic music with great action cues.

Looks like a load of fun. Love the visual style. I think Johnston was a perfect fit for this, since i've always been a big fan of The Rocketeer (i haven't seen it since i was like 12, so that might be nostalgia talking).

Ive seen all those movies, and I cannot recall a single cue from any of theme. Thats enough for me to know he's lost it.
