First Look at NEW RoboCop Suit

Alright lets have an actual conversation about this. Everyone (or at least a lot of people) seem to be unenthused about this design. But if not this... then what?

I'm finding it hard to fathom what would be considered "good" design. For instance, I love the Ironman armor but at the same time it doesn't blow me away especially after seeing it for 3 movies over the last few years. The original Robocop suit can be considered iconic but I do believe that nostalgia plays a big part.

At the time, it was such a feat. The detail, the fact that there was a real person under all that, the fact that we hadn't seen anything like it especially since it came out when we were children. This new design, to me, is pretty much in line with what we would expect and I can't imagine anything really blowing people away. I mean what did we expect/want. It's a robot. We've been looking at robots for decades now. What exactly would cause everyone to stop and say "WOAOAAAHAOAHHHH". Not much I'd imagine. The only piece of robot character design I've liked form the last few years was Legion from Mass Effect. And even then I said "oh... cool."

So again: If not THIS then what?

^ this

also, good design wouldn't mean shit if it looks bad in motion. So let's hope Kinnaman nails it, because that will matter much more than the suit.

I still maintain that the old suit looks just as ridiculous as some seem to think this new one is, so I have no attachment to it at all. I have zero issues with the new design, I mean..it looks exactly how I would imagine a 2012 interpretation of a character designed in the 80's to look.

As others have said, what it's really going to come down to is how it looks in motion. As well as whether or not there are going to be any digital enhancements made to suit similar to Iron man.

You have no soul.

Just Finished watching Robocop on netflix. Soooo good.

Robo crawling in the parking garage with a 100+ cops going off on him with the epic theme in the background. Chills.

The problem with the new suit is two fold:

- boots look lame

- 1 color

I doubt this many people would be upset if these two were remedied.

I dont have a huge problem with the single color. I think that the different material on the suit does enough to add diversity to it.

I don't know why, but I read the topic title as "First look at NSFW RoboCop Suit"

I don't think I've ever been so let down in all my life.

So I wonder what OS this Robocop will run. The OG run DOS like a BOSS, so will it be Android or Windows this time? If you go by lineage, it has to be Windows.

From the tracing thread .. I give you ..

The Robocop original suit, no nostalgia attached

That was incredible, thanks for posting. I love when I see these behind the scenes specials where people just say all these things and in the end, all they really said was "this actor actually gave a shit".

REALLY looking at it, I think the appeal of the old Robocop suit was the entire package. The subtle use of the color, the sound of him walking, the way Peter Weller moved in the suit, the sound of the gun. I don't think it's the design itself. All around, it was just well done. Take away the sound of the gun, the movement, the walk and you're left with nothing special to be honest.

But that overall attention to detail is just amazing and very lost these days. I'll mention Ironmans suit again and say that the design itself was nothing special but the use of color was amazing. Other than that it wasn't anything to write home about. You barely heard him move. It was so subtle. Which made sense of course given the fact that it was so high tech but it definitely took away from it a bit. They made it sound heavy and substantial in some instances but that was lost for the most part.

You will recall the scenes where he peals out of the garage, and skims the bottom of the police cruiser along the exit ramp?

Yeah, I have a ramp like that coming out of the gym. And yeah, I loaded the theme up on my phone and blared it as I scraped the bottom of my car. It was awesome.

And I'm also in Dallas, where much of the first movie was filmed. Hopefully this movie doesn't suck. Costume is still shit.

So I discovered that in 2010 they reshowed the first one in theaters and made this glorious poster

So I had the idea to see how it would work with today's color

Not sure if they're still filming at my brother's campus, he mentioned that Sam Jackson was going to show up as well as a few others.

Oh Jesus... the motorcycle...

I am 100% sure he will fight a flying machine at some point, with some jetpack strapped to his back.

This movie will be such shit.

Yeah, those are pretty cool. But the Mondo poster just destroys them.

Bike looks cool, costume looks meh in stills but will probably look much better on film with all the filters/cinematography stuff.

PG13 is much worse than any costume. He could look like a teletubby and I'd still see it if it was R rated but PG13 for robocop really sucks. I want the extreme violence and satire of the original but I know it won't happen because money and babies.

Maybe it'll be a satire of R rated franchises that went for the family friend PG-13 moneygrab like Die Hard or AVP?
