First Splitfish FragFX Review

is that a nunchuck i see :). No, but honestly it does look pretty cool, I'm nervous about it, due to the fact that resistance will be very one sided to those who own this.

I thought it was PS3 only?

It looks like it is right now.

This device seems like the answer to all my bitching the past couple years. I guess MS couldn't step up to the plate, so thankfully a 3rd party did. FPS multiplatform game purchases now on PS3 confirmed.

Since it's USB, does it stand a chance of working on the 360...?
Like since they said you can download stuff of splitfish.com for it, maybe some hacker will find a way.
Atleast I hope they do..

This will be good for more than just FPS games too. It is going to be sweet for 3rd person shooters too like Stranglehold, Uncharted, Mercenaries 2. GTA4 will be better with this pad too.

For the types of games I love to play, this is the most exciting console controller innovation I've seen in the past 10 years. I want this thing, and I want it now.

I've learned to adjust to shooters on consoles, but I really miss the accuracy of a mouse. I do enjoy the movement ability of an analog stick versus a keyboard, so this device is almost like the best of both worlds.

Wait, so you're more excited for this than you were when the wiimote was first unvieled?

The Frag button does nudge close to being a cheating device though, I'll give the critics that much. But really, the device is a wonderful thing. Assuming I can buy it.

I sure as hell would be. This offers the nunchuk advantage, but without the 1:1 issue of the wagglemote. Sounds like the best of both worlds. But then I'm also primarily an FPS nut.

Yes, because I like to play different types of shooters (1st and 3rd person) and precision has never been satisfactory on a console controller before now. Including the wiimote. I'm not saying the wiimote pointer isn't precise, because it is. My problem is holding your hand out without a solid surface underneath, so you need to keep extremely steady while playing games and movement can be jarring if you slightly twist your wrist. I rented CoD3 Wii right now and seeing your onscreen gun move around in odd positions is a bit jarring. I like everything centered and stable, and this is what the Splitfish controller will give me. You might not think it is much, as the pairing of a nunchuck with a mouse might not seem like a big deal, but in terms of gameplay it is huge. Like I said before, this is more exciting for me based on the games I like to play. I really don't want to turn this into a bitch fest, as it should be on the awesomeness of SplitFish for offering us this product.

Which I still can't buy. Gamestop says backordered with no ETA. :(

Nice, I would love one for the 360.

Downside, no chance of using the thing while laying back in my bean bag.

I guess it's not as convenient as a single handheld device, but the lapboard should go some ways there.

The two halves of the controller are coupled by an easily detachable lap board / mouse pad so as to allow for couch based play.

Can someone post pics? I can't get to the link from work. :(

Here is a pic off of gamestop website:

And a description:

http://www.gamestop.com/product.asp?product_id=802714

*Full sixaxsis motion control
* Swappable analog stick and mouse
* Firmware upgradeable (via computer)
* Programmable buttons (via computer)
* Playstation 1, 2 and 3 game support
* Adjustable sensitivity (Mouse sensitivity)
* Sony “PS Home” and "web navigation" support
* Frag button (Slows down targeting movement for better aim accuracy.)
* Programmable motion feature (Port a repetitive button function to a motion command, like gun reload)

Basically a nunchuck and a mouse, with easy button access and it comes with a mouse pad/tray you can use if you are sitting on a couch.

microsoft isn't to keen on third party controllers

i wouldn't expect this on 360 anytime soon. i think splitfish is typically a licensed third party.

Any game with auto-aiming will make this thing hard to use with it. It was the case with the fragmaster of whatever for the old xbox.

Oh wow I didn't know something like this was coming and I'm already wanting it! When is this supposed to hit retailers? Rainbow Six Vegas and The Darkness just came out, perfect timing for something like this!

Cool, now when I get owned in Resistance I have a new excuse to tell myself. :D

This thing will probably get a pretty decent cult following, especially when stuff like SOCOM rolls out where people will be looking for any edge possible.

that is exactly what im worried about.
the idea of this controller tickles my fancy , im also a fps nut and nothing beats a keyb and mouse.
But with auto-aim on these games...it might be a little strange.
Or perhaps you can turn auto-aim off??
Im pretty sure cod3 would be really,really strange with this as theres quite the auto-aim in the game , has anyone tried it out yet??
let us know!!

Doesn't Resistance have auto aim?

I've been reading various reports on this device with resistance, and it handles the game extremely well.

I think we were dealing with shoddy designs in the past.

PS3 being an open platform should get a ton of native mouse support with FPS games.

I personally think this controller would be bad ass with UT3.

I'm trying to track down a release date. I can't find one at the moment. :/

I want this thing ASAP. Did I say that before???? :D

If I remember correctly, MS has the rights to accessories for 2 years. That means that this Novemeber should be when 3rd parties can start churning out the accessories. This thing looks nice, but I don't think it'll work too well if fps games are designed for the console. The recticle onscreen speed vs the speed of the mouse would just be off, even at max settings(it'll feel laggy, since mouse reaction speed > onscreen look speed). I think only a few games will take advantage of this, as allowing for faster aiming would give players who have this accessory an ungodly advantage. This on the PC though would be a godsend, especially for players who don't like using a keyboard, but still want the advantage of the mouse. :) Now I can finally play PC FPS games! :D

I preordered this back in march and I'm not even getting one from the first shipment. Damn thing was supposed to come out back in march when I preordered it too. Then May, then disappeared, now they're all sold out.

Good god. If Resistence has auto-aim, my controller skills in FPS sucks even worse than I thought.

I recently spent a couple hours playing it online, and I was spraying bullets everywhere but AT my target. If auto-aim was helping me out, I'd hate to see where I would have been aiming otherwise.

Resistance has a limited auto-aim I believe. It doesn't help you aim, it just gives you a bigger range. Meaning you'll hit everything in your reticule and not just the very center of the reticule. Correct me if I'm wrong though.

I just placed an order through gamestop website, even though the product is currently backordered. Who knows when I'll get it, but I will post some thoughts on it after I have it.

I canceled my order after it got back-ordered for weeks. To be honest, I'm glad as I've learned to accept the ps3 controller for console fps. It still could be an impulse buy for me later on if it comes down to a more tolerable price. Plus the x360 will be occupying my console fps time in the near future with Bioshock and Halo 3.

i like resistance but my head hurt a bit too much from the headshot i take. I want this , but need to know if its efficient :D
