Well it was part of his last post-ban extended tantrum (the ban was for lying about insider shit).
I honestly don't know about that, so I'll refrain to comment on it. Still, it would have been better to refer to what he actually did to deserve said ban, not that tweet.

I've been on blackout about this game mostly so I wasn't sure if we knew all the worlds yet---do we have a number though?

There are 5 worlds (not counting the hub and starting area), 3 of which are officially revealed and two that we know the general theme of from leaks/concept art. All of them also have an expansion that increases their size once you get enough Pagies.

Watch Da Birdie

I buy cakes for myself on my birthday it's not weird lots of people do it I bet
Huh, that few?

Sounds disappointing but hopefully it'll be quality over quantity here...

Oh, that sounds neat though.

Sorry for derailing the thread. I wasn't having a meltdown. I thought I was reasonable in countering what you guys said and expanding upon what I heard. Also, the baby thing was just a little joke. I don't dislike GAF and visit here every so often! I've met some cool people on here.

Back to Yooka Laylee, Laura Kate's review is the one I'm most interested in, myself.

I thought GAF didn't like me, so I did not expect you to be going through my tweets lol

From my limited knowledge of your gaf experiences it seems people just don't like unverifiable information being passed as a possible rumor. Have you had a jontron-esque meltdown or something?

This is the first time I can recall being warned by multiple, different places about a game ahead of embargo. I'm really curious to see what the complaints are tomorrow, in more detail. If it's just mediocre writing, performance/frame rate, stuff like that, I'm ok. But if it doesn't control well I'll be pretty disappointed.

The Toybox demo they released for Kickstarter backers several months ago played just fine IMO.

Only thing I remember being a little rough was the camera, but hopefully they've been tweaking and polishing things since the Toybox released.

I can understand being frustrated with him for the "insider" business but I think people are being waaaay too aggressive with the attacks on Liam ITT. especially when this thread has nothing to do with him.

I think it's that everyone is a little touchy on hurting the potential of this game, since it is the bat signal for other platformers to return. It's like the Jim Sterling podcast vagueness, it caused more harm than good because of being cagey over embargoes. Why bother saying things that can be misconstrued or be seen as detrimental from being super vague, when the embargo is just tomorrow and the reviews can speak for themselves?

As this is a return to classic 90's 3D platforming I'm going to choose to return to classic 90's review analysis:

<3/10 = Avoid.
4/10 = Has issues. Don't buy unless you try
5/10 = Average, but poor in places. Try first
6/10 = OK, definitely worth a look
7/10 = Good Game, most will really enjoy
8/10 = Very Good. You will love it.
9/10 = Essential. You must buy it now
10/10 = Ocarina of Time Perfection.

10/10 = Super Mario 64
9/10 = Super Mario Galaxy 1/2
8/10 = Super Mario 3D World
7/10 = Super Mario Sunshine
6/10 = Crash Twinsanity
5/10 = Donkey Kong 64
4/10 = Some Croc game, can't remember
3/10 = Sonic 06
2/10 = Earthworm Jim 3D
1/10 = Bubsy 3D

I'm hoping for a 7/10 average for YL. I'm a backer, so I'm playing it no matter what happens :p

Edit: fixed my list formatting cuz it sucked

This. There's no point to teasing things second-hand when reviews are coming out in hours anyway

10. Super Mario 64
9. Super Mario Galaxy 1/2

8. Super Mario 3D World
7. Super Mario Sunshine
6. Crash Twinsanity
5. Donkey Kong 64
4. Some Croc game, can't remember
3. Sonic 06
2. Earthworm Jim 3D
1. Bubsy 3D

I read that list as a top 10 and was like, damn that's a good list.

I don't know who is writing about bad writing. Show me a platformer with good writing then.

Super Mario Galaxy. :)

The Banjo platformers, mostly! Sly Cooper as well.

But, I jest a bit. Writing certainly isn't by any means the most important thing about platforming, nor the most important feature of any my faves.

Eh, I don't see what anyone (including myself) has to gain from doing that. Embargo isn't far away. Will post my review on gaf somewhere for those interested.

Yeah was just joking, absolutely no one gains from that. Especially when the embargo lifts a whole week before release anyways.

Hell yes. I remember being blown away by the first one in this area.

Yeah, it's an awesome Saturday morning cartoon type tale! We couldn't get into the second one yet unfortunately - the opening parts felt too open world-y compared to the tight stealth platforming levels of the first game. Wanna give it another go though since the first game is so damn good. Speaking of toon shaded games, the Klonoa games we've played have an interesting story also.

i played it again pretty recently and felt the same. Controls were on point, and camera was occasionally rough. The only other thing that stood out to me was the fisheye effect when you went swimming was super over the top and thats thankfully been toned down. or maybe it just looks better when the scenery is more complex? idk i feel like i dont notice it unless i actively look for it in the gamersyde vids when it was all i could focus on replaying the toybox

As someone who never grew up with an N64 and has no nostalgia for Banjo, I was cautiously interested in Yooka. I was a bit hesitant with the footage like the casino level and the ancient ruins but going by the reviews so far (I know there's only two) it seems like a pretty good successor to Banjo. It does give me Spyro vibes so I might just buy it as an Easter gift to myself.

I need something to hold me over until Crash comes out anyway.

I hope that people pay attention to more than just scores and actually read the reviews.

The way some ratings systems work, there will be an individual score for story. Given that this is a platformer, I would expect such a score to default from average to bad. So 5.0 as a base. Even if everything else is a 10, the average would be a 9.

But you know this game isn't going to get 10s after a month with Zelda and Horizon. I'm expecting 8s as the highs and 6s as the lows.

I'm certain a few reviewers will make a case for 2/5 stars. Others for 9/10. And I think the MC will sit in the exact middle of that, 65ish score.

I hope I'm proven wrong with this game, I haven't had much positive stuff to say about it since the Kickstarter

I'll be happy to eat my words, I love the collectathon genre. Even if I don't personally like the game, I hope it's objectively decent enough to get a following big enough to encourage other devs to try more Mario 64/banjo/jack stuff

I hope the reviews are alright! Im excited as banjo-kazooie is in my top 5 games of all time and i love 3d platformers, but have been concerned over what ive seen so far in terms of world size (possibly way too big like tooie), visuals, and performance.

Not sure where else to post this:

Can I get instant access to the toybox demo if I prepurchase on Steam right now? I didn't back it obviously.

And if not, anyone wanna sell me a PC code for a few bucks? 😬

On topic, I thought the embargo was over at midnight! Damn.

Even that utter piece of shit Mighty No. 9 managed to eke out a 52, I can't imagine this game hits the 60s after all the positive hands-on previews we've seen.

Alright, anyone who wants to suggest an OT title or vote for one already said, let's hear it! Here's the selection so far:

|OT| Pun For The Whole Family - Camjo-Z
|OT| If You Know The Words You Can Join In Too - maxcriden
|OT| A Lizard and a Bat and a Snake in a Hat - TheMink
|OT| Is that a snake in your trowzer?
(Probably would need something more at the end...)

I like TheMinks but my suggestion would be

|OT| Bringing 3D Platforming Back with a Capital B

Snake Pass has a 73% metacritic and I absolutely loved it. Would have seriously missed out on some pure fun if I let scores dictate what I try.

For the title I like this but whatever :)

|OT| A Lizard and a Bat, What's up with That?

I feel like it has to be a shitty pun tho...that's just straight from the rap, lol

It's so dumb though :D
That rap is so freakin good, hahahaha. But if we're goin with a lyric from it...it's gotta involve the pagies in cagies, I mean c'mon

And then the OT creator could create a graphic of the "Next Page" button on GAF trapped in a cagie
