Five Things You Need to Know About Madden 08 (IGN)

Madden 07 on current gen systems has that player and position specific special abilities stuff too, though it doesn't sound as deeply integrated into the game as these ones do. Madden always makes strides in year 3, hopefully this one is no different.

Unfortunately dude, no one can be trusted with their opinion of Madden unless you know them personally. I don't think that there have ever been ANY reviews, including from sites like MaddenNation and OS that really delve deeply into the gameplay mechanics. Even a lot of GAFfers call games the best whatever ever and then a week later throw the game in the trash because of some gamebreaking glitch.

I think it was NCAA 07 for PSP, NO ONE except for the 1up review mentioned the RIDICULOUS glitch in which on a running play the HB was downed where he was first touched and not where he eventually hits the ground. Imagine this on 4th and goal, or hell, on your own goal line, which is what happened to me, a phantom safety.

Basically, and it sucks, the only way to get a real judgement, is to try it yourself.

Look I am all for cool shit making the superstar players act like superstar players, but I am NOT AT ALL INTERESTED in gamebreaking mechanics like the Superstar mode in NBA Live. This shit needs to be ****ing 100% balanced, or it won't work.

Considering the train wreck that NBA Live was, it is kinda surprising that they would adopt any NBA Live type features.

These games should offer more mode control. Let people decide which features they want to play with and which they don't.

I hope these weapons don't take forever to update after the season like the Player Roles at the end of every season.

60 FPS...damn...

After MLB 07's 60 FPS gameplay...I would love to finally have 60 FPS NFL football...tough call...

oh, now that's great. who was the jackass that decided to make madden an arcade game?

and we tought 07 was bad...

2k series don't have those stupid "fantasy" tricks in their games. that's why its so much better. shame that apparently the same moron that decided to turn madden into an arcadey game also is making 2k football a non licensed game without editing

:lol the 2K series was the definition of "fantasy" with its hail mary catches against 3 dbs all over the field.

This element was in the current gen version of Madden and it turned out fine. Also, Live would have been shit with this element or not. This type of gameplay twist has also been in EA's NHL games for awhile and they work fine.

The question will be whether or not they balance it or if it makes the game NFL Street-like. I somehow doubt they'd do that to Madden though.

Never mind that Warrick Dunn could break 5 tackles on one play as if he were a power back in 2k.......

I will reserve judgement on this feature until I see how it is actually implemented.

Looks like EA is bringing a demo early

Could it be that EA is actually ready to shut the haters up for once? (at least most of them, they're like roaches, you never really get rid of them all)

This is a topic about Madden '08. The fact that EA has strongarmed the competition out of the market is at least somewhat responsible for the series' decline and therefore relevant.

You know what? **** you. EA didn't strongarm shit. The NFL was looking for an exclusive videogame partener and put the shit up for grabs and EA won. So you and your "EA has strongarmed the competition out of the market" bullshit can go somewhere else. If Take Two had won, I guess you would be saying the same shit, right? No wouldn't, so take your flawed logic to another ****ing thread.

Despite all this...weird special move crap...I'm still going to keep my eye on this. I usually groan at a lot of moves EA makes, but I just can't ignore 60fps. It just makes things so smooth. =x

Actually it is not only logical but probably right on the money.

EA (Jeff Brown to be exact) did admit it had been going to the NFL in the previous years to get an exclusive. Eventually the NFL had to say okay we will take the wheelbarrows full of money. I think EA knew they had the exclusive be cause nobody was going to match what they offered. Not a big deal now but wanted to get a few facts straight.

Jeff I hate you Brown said:
"We (EA) have proposed exclusivity several times in the past, but this year, in the spring the NFL had an off-site meeting, and they decided to consider bids for exclusivity," Brown told IGN in an exclusive interview. "Several bids were submitted but they accepted EA's. I cannot tell you how much this cost, but exclusivity is expensive, we are paying a premium. It wasn't cheap. I can tell you this, though, all parties all happy with this agreement, and Wall Street seems happy with it too."

I understand what the original post is saying, but I think that if they can control how much of an impact the super star players have on the game it should be ok. As long as they can make mistakes such as dropped balls, or over thrown passes like they mentioned about Farve, it might work.

I'm personally interested in how much the edit mode is going to offer. The game has never really had that much as far as gear that real players actually wear in real life. Things like the short sleeve under armor that some QBs have been wearing for years now. Or hand warmers, and towels that are around the waist of players that handle the ball. The presentation is something that has been lacking for some time now, and I'm hoping that this current gen is going to help change that. I want to see the sidelines littered with people. Media, team personal, and trainers. Anything to make the entire viewing field look more like it does on Sundays. In the IGN preview they mentioned that the superstars are going to have an intro coming out of the tunnel, so that should be a nice change for the owner mode. I only hope that one day they can find the time to add each teams personal home team intros. There's nothing like seeing the Ravens intro live before a game. If they could get that in Madden and even NCAA one day, it would really be special.

This the first time in years, I'm sure that most people are actually kind of excited to hear there is going to be changes made to the game play. It's been years in the making, but you can bet that even with these new addition, new faults are also going to be added and have to be reevaluated this same time next year.

A quick question about Madden sites as someone sent me a link to this one.

http://www.sportsgamer.com/

Was this formerly one of the big madden sites? I just hate to sign up to find out and hoped someone knew.

They're a new place/site that launched last fall, but I do know they did acquire Madden Nation sometime around then as well.

Interesting, is someone trying to compete with OS? Sure seems really EA/American-centric. First thing that caught my eye were the listings. No Soccer forum, yet Fifa game headlined on the nav bar and contents on Fifa games listed. Nascar is featured, but no racing specific forum or other types of racing covered. Lastly there is no section for golf or tennis? I know EA has never developed a tennis game but where is the Tiger Woods section. Must be still ticked off about the last Ryder Cup.

Pretty much par for the course if your demographic spends 2 or more days a week shopping at Walmart. Of course there was no Wraslin' forum so the line between white trash and white trailer trash is still visible.

That one will cost me. :D
