Flower (PSN)

This game is incredible. Beautiful.

BTW, is there a certain number of secret petals per level? I found 3 in the 2nd level, but I can only find 1 in the first.

3 each.

finished first level, its very pretty and relaxing, but is there ever any sense of danger or urgency in the later levels? gf didn't like it at all due to that fact (kind of like the no death system in PoP)

I could probably write quite a lot about this game, as I've found it truly inspirational so far. But just wanted to stop by with a few comments...

- A "sound" game. (instead of just a music game) This game feels extremely developed from an audio perspective. I think from both a quality of sound and in the aspect that it contributes to the game on an emotional level. The effects, ambiance and music all sorta jive together and really do elevate your senses throughout the experience.

- LOVE the carrot effect. No timers, life bars, arrows, mini maps, question marks, missions, etc. You're just given a little push, a glimmer of the next bud you could reach. Maybe a side path will catch your eye and you'll veer off the main path and find new areas. They've done a really great job nudging you toward exploration without beating you over the head with directions.

I find the carrot also works for speed.. as your target buds are close together, you naturally go slower and try to get them all with fine steering. But sometimes, they'll put a glimmer way down the field then really spread out the targets, giving you that little extra nudge toward that high speed WHOOSH.

Ahh... design subtlety. Wondrous!

That was incredible. The best sense of speed, of pure flight, I've ever seen in a game.

Rez + Okami = Flower (And like them, Flower will always look good.)

This game is worth way more than $10. I'd easily pay double or even triple for this experience. It's after midnight, but I want to go wake up somebody up and share it with them. Go buy Flower immediately.

I've only had time to do one play-through of the first pot, but wow. Beautiful, just beautiful.

I'll have to give this a go again in the morning.

Not really much danger. Really with PoP though the game is meant to have some danger so lenient deaths mess with the sense of danger (and accomplishment), with flower its not part of the philosophy at all I think. The game never wants you to feel in danger.

This has so far exceeded my already high expectations...

I'd go so far to say that this is a watershed moment in gaming. It works on so many levels...

This is art.

BINGO! Truly is a watershed moment in gaming and the best example of games being art that I have yet to experience. GOW3 might look like a painting but this game is truly a piece of art.

After playing it again, this feels very much like I imagine NiGHTS might if it allowed for true 3D movement (when flying). And that's a great thing.

I really hope the smaller companies creating these downloadable titles are turning a profit, because truthfully beyond a tiny handful of mega budget titles (MGS4) my favorite thing about this generation of consoles has been the downloadable titles. Feels like videogaming going back to the basics (in a lot of ways), and I love it.

You should probably check out Cloud then. Indie game a few pre-thatgamecompany staff were involved with back in '05 - same designers, same composer in Flower.

I hate how it takes control away from you after you bloom the flowers you need to progress, do I really need to small cutscene showing me the area being filled with color or piece of rock falling over. I wish it would just do it in real-time, like the first area in the credits. It brakes up the.. fl0w of the game.

Just bought the game....soooooo glad I did. Worth 10 bucks easy. This game put me in a better mood. :D

Those parts are some of the most amazing in the game IMO.

I know right! I feel like the sense of reward comes from showing you how pretty the world you are flying around in becomes, as well as the audio queue's you get when you hit a perfect string of flowers.

Ah, sounds great! I've had my eye on this and didn't even realize it was out today. Might give it a download tomorrow. :D

Oh my goodness, what a great little game! I didn't expect this much out of this title - I'm blown away. The variety of the environments is a very welcome surprise. I was expecting subtle green meadows and luxurious rides through green fields, but it's not like that at all. I LOVE the night/light-up-the fields level(s?). So beautiful. Also, the game is just a joy to control. No fighting any set of particular controls, tensing up, or anything.. just sit back and tilt. Everything flows so smoothly.

What really put the icing on the cake, though, was the music. The pieces match the setting perfectly and make everything so relaxing.

And I love how the trophies are so obscure that you don't even know.know very little about them so that when you're playing, you're not even focused on "trophy collecting," you're just enjoying the game. When something happens.. when you do a subtle something, and a trophy unlocks, you just "get it." The feeling of getting trophies in Flower is stronger than any game before it.

Beautiful. Simply.. beautiful.

Best PSN game I've ever played! I knew nothing about this game. I was so blown away. The graphics! The music! The controls! It's so damn beautiful. It's worth the $10. Everyone needs to experience this game! I am moved. Is there a OST coming out?

I cannot express enough how amazing this game is. Simply amazing.

I am so happy everyone seems to be liking it, really hope the sales end up good. Don't have a particularly full PSN friends list but I have seen someone playing it and someone else asked me about it and said they would pick it up.

It also makes you wonder why most of the bigger devs can't get motion controls right, when fl0w and Flower do it so perfectly - one in 2D, the other in 3D. Those two have proven you can build games entirely around motion controls, so there's really no excuse.

I have to agree, I too LOVED those parts! Nothing personal but, I can't imagine anybody using the word hate to describe ANYTHING relating to Flower.

Bought it, love it.

I sat on the "screensaver" screen for 3 minutes, originally just to get the trophy, but I haven't yet been able to bring myself to turn it off. It's been sitting there for over 10 minutes, now. I'm mesmerized.

Game is absolutely brilliant.

I was so surprised and delighted to find that the motion controls worked so well.
This game is awesome and reminds me alot of Rez.

Seriously! You are in total control with the motion controls. I can ease in, I can make careful turns. You're not fighting the controls at all! It feels perfect and I do wonder why other devs can't get it right.

Well it's a loop they get caught in between devs, marketing, the publisher, etc.

Motion controls are done poorly...then people tell the companies they don't like motion controls... then devs/publishers don't spend toward things they don't think people will spend more money on. So then either they spend no time on motion controls or leave 'em out. So people keep saying they don't miss them or want them.

How do I get the beginning and dream trophies? Pretty much have all of them except for these 2.

EDIT: And for the bloom trophy, do I have to finish a level for the flowers to be considered "bloomed" or does it automatically count without finishing a level

How do you do the painting one?

The Beginning: Find the three hidden green flowers in any level. The Dream is probably when you get all of them.

On the second stage I literally sat there for a couple minutes just staring at it. The colors against the bleakness is beautiful. Really surprised by this game. I thought it would get boring like fl0w did but so far has been far more enjoyable for me.

Thanks.

Palette: On the second level, reach the end. Right before you go to the end point, there should be 3 clusters of rocks. When you fly over them, all your flowers should turn a different color; Fly over (color) the grass. Do this for each of the 3 colors.

In some levels, there's rock formations that you uh... "heal" (to use PoP terminology) that give you a "glow" of a certain color. Get one, sail close to the ground to "paint" it that color.
Repeat it two more times with different rock formations and you'll have the trophy.

EDIT: Beaten.

Honestly, this is the first time I actually felt like I was flying, the motion controls just melted in my hand where I completely forgot that I had a controller in my hand. Top notch work with the motion controls. I love how the game....crap, I forgot to add a spoiler tag.
