Forced Camera inclusion "against consumer choice"' Says Sony

Open my eyes to what?

If the memory card was priced a lil bit lower most of you wouldnt be complaining about the proprietary memory card.

It should not be there in the first place. Use a universal standard memory card. Period. And if your not going to, change inline with similar products. They are ripping people off plain and simple. DRM is not a 60$ pill you should shallow because it's best for Sony. Your basically defending always online. It's was there to prevent piracy and was also for profit reasons.

How could anyone see this as anything other than Sony playing it up. It's not like they actually care.

Anyways, Microsoft's focus on Kinect was always a big mistake. Microsoft seemed completely oblivious to the fact that it had developed an incredible amount of hate by core gamers. Should have focused on specs.

I think a lot of people are stretching the $100 dollars for a way more advanced camera system and OS of the Kinect. Actually the Kinect wasn't a dud. It did quite well.

Also, the Dualshock reference was that looking to the future is not a bad thing. I couldn't even think of how I used a D-pad for the things I use analog for now. I'm just saying that people are stretching what Microsoft is "trying" to do way out of proportion.

They are not forcing anyone to pay for their console so how is it anti-consumer? And like I said before, I'm a gamer and will get the PS4 first because I want to see the graphical jump and it's cheaper, but I'm going to see if Microsoft can back up the Kinect claim.

Don't be such a pessimist.

Yeah, Microsoft channel stuffed themselves into the record books at launch, and it sold a couple units in the years that followed, but it was a total dud for actual use in gaming. I can't name a single Kinect game I'd want to spend an afternoon playing. The thing is terrible. We've had 3 years of "the future" according to Microsoft, and it is painfully useless for gaming.

They are forcing you to pay an extra $100 for a camera that likely has a bright future in dust collection if you decide to buy their console. Sony is not forcing you to buy a camera you probably don't want when you buy their console. It's your choice to buy some gimmicks and have less fun with your PS4.

Stick with the SD cards if you wanna bust Sony's balls over anti-consumer practices. That shit is bananas.

Are you kidding?

You can get a 32GB SD card on amazon right now for $20. It costs $78 for a PS Vita 32GB card. You're paying 300 percent more. This isn't a "lil bit" more.

A little bit lower? Good one. Let's talk when they slash them by another 50%.
Alright, if Sony priced the 32GB and 64B at $10 and $15 most of you would not be bitching about the memory card.
I think all this "muh freedumbs ain't respected by Sony due to this proprietary nonsense" is more of a price issue

I wonder what Sony would think of bundling a console with an expensive optical drive and a free movie just to win a format war...

Online play behind paywall (especially when you've never charged for it) is anti-consumer too to the point that someone who had PSOne, PS2 and PS3 (two because one of them died) as his main consoles has lost interest in your next console.

Which is partly why your camera has never been a success, Sony.

I think anti-consumer is a bullshit term. No one is forced to buy an xbox one. It's part of the package...take it or leave it. Hopefully it'll be used this time.

Stating the obvious.

Not like it matters but the exact wording is "to force bundle a camera is probably against consumer choice".

Saying it like that is more sound than what the TC put up there.

Pricing a product much higher than it should be is the definition of anti-consumer.

Wouldn't matter to me personally. At the end, the console with the games you want is what really matters.

I'm excited for Killzone: Shadow Fall, btw.

Agree.

I think it's down to what game(s) you want to play.

But one good thing "evaporates" a bad one?

for sure, this whole "because your memory card are expensive you cant say that or this" its nonsense

and only good thing? let me see.psn pluys, vita price ( yeah..vita price i still remember when everybody and his dog believe vita was going to cost 400 bucks) free online on vita, you can change HDs on ps3 and ps4,wheels and headsets will work from ps3 to ps4,bluetooth accesories works ( keyboards, headsets)etc etc

let me see microsoft, online paywall since the first day ,you need to buy expensive propietary hard drives, bluetooth accesories dont work on the go,netflix, youtube, etc behind a paywall

yes...vita card are expensive as hell,...thats doesnt change all of the above

The PS4 with Killzone Mercenary is £400. The Xbox One with Forza 5 is £429.

Is £30 that big a pull? I don't know.

(off-topic)

xbox with forza 500 euros ps4 with killzone, and two dualshocks 500 euros

maybe you forget something

Yes, it's already over! Nothing can and/or will change throughout a gen!

It's impossible for there to be future content that can make a device more appealing.

I guess we're going to see how many people want to pay extra for a device that might become more appealing over time.

Could you be any more disingenuous? The PS4 is offered without a game, so why would you try and compare those price points? No one has to buy a PS4 with Killzone.

I agree with them.

I'm going to buy the X1 when I'm not getting forced to use the Kinect as well.
It's not the same. Kinect isn't a peripheral, it's required for the console to have full functionality.

It would be like shipping without the controller.

I believe he's saying that part of Sony's strategy is to paint MS in a negative light so that consumers will give them money for their product instead. It's working and it's a good strategy, but it doesn't change the fact that it's laughable for Sony to even hint at some other company being anti-consumer. They didn't actually say that in this interview, but TC needed to be as inflammatory as possible I guess.

Price is part of it bring anti-consumer! They are making consumers spent two to three times the price of other cards so Sony doesn't get their cards hacked as easily.

It would have been really interesting if MS never sold Kinect for the 360. Imagine the fucking hype if it had been introduced for the X1, especially with something like the Milo demo. The gaming world would collectively shit itself, and that $100 difference would look so meaningless.

Alas, Kinect came out on the 360 and wasn't properly supported, leaving a bad taste in a lot of people's mouth.

True, however a PS4 with any game will be £400. I'm suggesting the bundled Forza 5 makes the perceived price much closer.

I wasn't being disingenuous.

Of course it's a price issue. No-one would care if they priced them properly, it's a disgusting cash grab and one that's becoming harder to accept (as if it wasn't hard enough already) as games start to have 1gb patches...looking at you KZ: Mercs.

Sure it's only one game right now, but it's only a matter of time until more games come with similarly large patches.

Kinect had more than enough support. How you can say that is rather baffling. The difference now is that they are putting it in every box so people have to cling to it. Kinect wasn't useful or practical for most games and that's not changing no matter how much anyone wants to defend other qualities such as UI or voice commands.

I don't really have much wiggle room in terms of finding Kinect acceptable for games. I want to control things with something physical that I'm holding.

I actually thought the Kinect did quite well for running off of 512 mb and 3 cores but if you say so...yea...forcing and decide in the same sentence...you're funny man

My point wasn't about what Microsoft has done wrong, I don't bother touching on that anymore since it's not a fight worth fighting. I'm just saying why should we ignore something if it's clearly just a money grab despite all these other benefits? I get that there's a whole lot of good to come from psn and sony in General but there's occasionally some real crappy decisions too. Why not bring those up in a discussion they lead about lack of customer choice?

It's not the same. Kinect isn't a peripheral, it's required for the console to have full functionality.

Not sure if you got the memo or not, but MS pulled the Kinect requirement. The reason they won't pull the camera now is because it's the one thing that differentiates them from the PS4. Without it, they're just a 30-50 percent weaker console with Halo.

Which is partly why your camera has never been a success, Sony.

I think anti-consumer is a bullshit term. No one is forced to buy an xbox one. It's part of the package...take it or leave it. Hopefully it'll be used this time.

Every (or the vast majority) system function can be done with a controller, so they are forcing people to buy a peripheral that isn't even necessary if they want to get an Xbox One.

I wasn't being disingenuous.

But it's not a legitimate comparison. One is forcing a bundle upon you, and the other is not. So yes, if you wanted Forza, that XB1 bundle is fine. If you don't, well, you're paying for a game you don't want. None of that happens with a PS4 purchase, and it's still cheaper even after you buy a game.

apple doesnt want you to use any sd card at all, thats another "free pas" they got

I'm not sure not having a "feature" is getting a free pass.
Like I said before Sony sells memory cards for other devices for 25% of the price. We all know it's their choice to have the Vita memory card prices that high and if you have a Vita you have no choice in memory cards.

Well, Sony is betting that Kinect2 will not make an impact, it will be interesting to see how this develops, no one can know exactly what will happen and what kind of ideas can be realised.

One thing is certain...
Any type of gameplay that can be done on PS4 can be replicated on Xbox One.
Any type of gameplay that can be done on Xbox One, cannot be replicated on PS4.

Kinect2 can help Xbox One or it can crash Xbox One..

Time will tell but there are more gameplay posibilities with Xbox One, this point cannot be argued against..

Good thing they never actually said that in the article.
I see that now. Thread title says it and the article infers it in a better worded way...still, I don't agree with the premise. No one has to buy an XB1. I feel better about getting Kinect knowing that it's standard across all users. I really hope MS uses it for something unique. I would prefer next gen to be more than a gpu upgrade.

Wow, that's retarded. Nice job Nintendo.
Isn't MS kind of doing the same thing on 360 though? I've had to do license transfer everytime I've had to replace the console, first time I had to do it manually with the help of the telephone support, without the transfer every game turned into trial versions if I was offline.

You know what else is anti-consumer, Sony?

79-261-368-TS

Yeah, how exactly do you reconcile that statement with PS Vita's proprietary shits?
