It's no wonder Gek doesn't like you. You have a serious elitist 'tude problem that needs straigtening out.
I'm not buying your shitty FF wheel anyway, so it doesn't matter.
Have a nice day.
chespace said:Yeah, I dunno, Gek has a reputation of being a "hardcore" racing analyst but christ, I had no idea he was such a jerk. It's okay to love Gran Turismo without turning into a dick.![]()
Gek54 said:Oh Chesus, Wheres your sense of humor? Lets take the intarweb too personal. Yes yes, in the past I tried really hard to back GT4, Enthusia and Fafracer. Now in reality I would be surprised if I put more than 4 hours into Enthusia, some nice TFF but other than that it was completely bland, and after golding all the license tests and challenges in GT4, it has been collecting dust while I am sure I have put in days if not weeks worth into Forza with tuning, painting and racing online and it is still in my current rotation so excuse me if I am a little excited to know every detail of what I hope to be a very detail oriented game and also a little dissapointed when the "Forza community manager" puts more effort into bashing Sony and GTHD than he puts into knowing the details regarding his game and its IMPORTANT perfipherals which any E3 goer could have easily found out. And I know you may not be a big car enthusiast but I kind of figured you being involved in such a car-centric project that you would pick up basic car terminalogy such as "lock-to-lock" and know what it really means. Maybe running your articles by guys on your team that do have more experience might not be such a bad idea for now, becuase your recent drivel you have posted is a little disconcerning and dissapointing on a profesional level. I dont know about other people but when I check out the Forza 2 website I think I would rather hear all the good things about the game rather than having to wade through paragraphs of the website manager's Gran Turismo discontent.
Man, I cant believe I got univited to the forums. :'(
Again, just ribbin' you, Che.![]()
for the most part
arne said:I gotta speak up about this. Both Che and I didn't know this was public information yet. All of the info we got still said this was under wraps as of E3, so we couldn't say anything.

Gek54 said:Since it seems to be public now, can you confirm that much about the 270 degrees is true?
chespace said:Well, I don't have the time nor the drive to get into it here so this is the last sort of personal response I'm going to afford you. If you look at my update, you'd see that I didn't put "more effort into bashing Sony and GTHD" in terms of the overall space and balance of the weekly report. Those were my E3 wrap-up thoughts in a section clearly subtitled "When E3 Aftermath Soapboxes Attack" -- if you didn't want to read it, you could have skipped right down to the subhead that read "Get to the Good Stuff Already" where we talk specifically about Forza 2. Again, I'm not sure what your problem is but if you don't like my opinions, writing style, or how I'm running the Forza site, it's your choice not to partake. Is there a ton of info I could be posting on the game right now? Yes. But I'm not at liberty to disclose them at this time.
I am a car enthusiast, but I'm not gonna sit here and pose like I'm a fount of knowledge just because I happen to be on a dev team that's making a racing game. My statement the other week about the lock-to-lock wheel rotation wasn't well worded but it essentially came down to the fact that I didn't know what I could or couldn't say about the wheel without PR slapping my wrist. Again, I'm eager to tell-all 24-fucking-7, but it's already gotten me into a little trouble since my time here so now I'm more cautious. So yeah, what I meant was that the wheel isn't 900 degrees, but it's lock-to-lock in the sense that you'd definitely feel its turning limits quickly if you cranked the wheel left and right. Like Arne said, the hardware team has not been clear on what exactly the publicity deal is with the wheel and I hadn't even seen the brochure until after a full day's worth of interviews at E3. Now we all know it's 270 degrees -- again, what the fuck is your problem?
If you find my "drivel" so "disconcerning" [sic] then you can exercise your right to not "wade through" all of my Gran Turismo discontent (of which I have only ever written 2 short paragraphs on the site, in that column clearly labeled E3 soapbox). I'd appreciate if you'd just email further hate to me personally (xxx@xxx.com) rather than attacking me in a public forum.
You haven't been uninvited to the forums, and as long as you don't troll there, I won't ban your ass.Just ribbin' you dude -- oh wait, no I'm not. Intarnetz is serious bizniss.

Trojan X said:Oh Chespace? I was at E3 and awe-ing at the two Lamborghinis at the front of the centre which was promoting Forza 2. Bro, I LOVE those cars so much, its my dream to even just sit comfortably in the damn thing for several seconds or more! So, in attempt to fulfil my dream, I asked the guy who was looking after them (that punk couldn't even shift the car into reverse properly) if I could just sit down in the front seat several seconds and if he could take a photo of me inside but that punk denied me of attaining my dream!!! I was so heart-broken...!
So... Urm... Can you beat him up for me? :lol

make it happen !
Trojan X said:Seriously. If that steering is true force feedback as in arcade/real-life fighting against you force feedback and not stupid vibration, then Forza 2 should DEFINITELY make sure that it is compatible for it. Do not lose opportunity to cut yourself short on things such as this. Heck, I'm not being funny but for M$ to own SideWinder I find it really silly that they didn't make use of all those awesome Force Feedback joysticks and steering wheels compatible for even the normal Xbox!
Nobiru said:but on the talk of actual 360 wheels, Logitech is making one correct? is there ina pictures of that around?

I havent seen any mention of its range of rotation or what exactly "axial feedback" means. My guess its just like the fanatec wheel.

Whats your vision for the Forza 2?
Dan Greenawalt: I want to instil that car passion and ignite it in other people and new groups, broaden the appeal of hardcore driving games. Younger gamers, older gamers, less dextrous gamers. I want to give them that moment where you see something like a Lamborghini Gallardo and have an emotional response. Thats universal. No matter where you go in the world you cant avoid the response to the car. That sums up the vision for Forza Motorsport.
Just how accurate are you getting with your physics and handling?
Dan Greenawalt: We took a hit in Forza 1 because some of the hardcore gamers were asking us why it wasnt 60 frames per second. I tried to explain that theres a bit of a miseducation going on. I like the look of 60 frames per second, but it doesnt make it a better sim. The real issue is how frequently you update your physics. If you update your physics at 60 frames per second you actually get bad physics, with objects sliding and skidding like theyre in molasses instead of properly colliding with things. In Forza 1 we updated the physics anywhere between 180 and 360 times a second. That allowed us to have a very quick response and create a lot of torque in the car. Now, if youre running the graphics at 60 frames per second youre using up a lot of processing power so you have to put a dampener on those physics, and thats when things start to feel a little sluggish. We didnt want that, so we decided to keep the physics running high and pull back on the graphics.
What difference has the Xbox 360 made to the physics and graphics?
Dan Greenawalt: Now that were on Xbox 360 we can do 60 frames per second and keeping the physics at the same speed as the first game. In fact, for some key areas were increasing the speed of our physics. Thats where this all ties back into Sebring. Its not the most visually impressive track its kinda flat but the track surface has all these little ruts and steps in the concrete that put incredible pressure on the physics engine. As a physics geek thats what got me excited because I knew we were going to be beating the hell out of the cars and theyd be rocking all over the place. So it was kind of a strategic choice to show off the complexity of our physics, but its also great fun to drive!
How are you enhancing the customisation aspect of Forza 2?
Dan Greenawalt: There are a couple of really cool things were doing. Engine swaps was something that was a real sleeper hit in Forza because you could roll up in something that shouldnt be too hot and then smoke your opponent because youre putting out power right across the power band. Were increasing the number of engine swaps and letting more cars have them, so thats something real techy freaks and hardcore players will love. Were also adding more layers to the livery editor and making it easier to use. Were adding more parts and were adding more cars including Lamborghinis and the McLaren F1, so therell be more ways to express yourself than ever before. Were basically growing in every way. Everything that we could do more of, were doing more of!
Were really excited about the Xbox 360 steering wheel. Is it coming out because of Forza 2?
Dan Greenawalt: Its coming out because of Forza 2 and PGR3, yes! Itll work with PGR3, and itll ship simultaneously with the game later this year.
How does the Xbox 360 wheel differ to other force feedback wheels?
Dan Greenawalt: When you look at other force feedback wheels, they base the feedback on friction. In a real car those things are correlated but theyre not equal to each other. Our wheel will actually go limp when youre understeering and subtly track your tyres back into alignment although youll probably go into snap oversteer straight away. And to stop us needing to use force feedback to represent friction coming through the wheels weve got rumble. That way you can get a full 3D feedback system. All your control feedback is coming through the wheel, and any additional feedback like hitting ruts or getting bumped by another car comes from the rumble. Other wheels use their force feedback to do both and never give you the accurate feedback you need. Our wheel is going to give people a much more robust driving experience and a much better idea of what its like to actually steer these cars.
On the social side, what are you adding to the online game to create more of a community feel?
Dan Greenawalt: ...But for the most part we did everything we could to NOT build a good community! I hate to say it, but we should have done that better. Our website kinda sucked, we didnt do downloadable content, and we missed out on a lot of the things that build good community. So weve hired a new community manager for Forza 2. Hes just launched the new website and hes already building up the community, so were really focussing on it this time.
