Forza Horizon 3 PC Performance Thread

Ryzen 1700 (OC to 3.5)
RX 480 (8GB)

Solid performance, steady 60fps (my monitor is 60hz) on Ultra or High settings aside from one (Dynamic Geometry Medium). I did notice two hiccups down to high 40's for a split second. I imagine it's the map loading since the world is pretty big. Very impressed! Hot Wheels is fun so far, of course I had to stop on purpose doing a loop and watch in cockpit view to see myself crash into the ocean, lol. Jumping from one track to another is cool too.

I think they deved their PC version completely incorrectly in the first place if its threading model was so... poor. Other than that I am not sure how at all how their engine works.

The question is, is there a PC with 4x IPC of xb1 jaguar core that can pull off 120 hz at xb1 settings?

I'm shocked to read all these good impressions. I'll have to try again tonight or tomorrow, though now that I have a GTX1080 it'll be harder to tell if it fixed the issues I had while on a GTX970.

Will chip in with my own results as some might be interested in hearing about performance on gaming laptops.

My specs:

980m 8GB VRAM
16GB DDR3
i7-4790S

I get a locked 60fps/1080p with the below settings:

Seriously solid work on the performance upgrades. Kudos to the team!

Any word on if the team is aware of the Blizzard Mountain problem?

Plays like a dream. I'm getting 80-90fps in free roam with max settings at 1440p (6700k and GTX 1080). I'm so happy that I bought the expansion pass.

Are you referring to this?

https://www.reddit.com/r/forza/comments/6a7okj/psa_if_your_fh3_game_is_crashing_after_the_update/

If so have you tried deleting Blizzard Mountain then reinstalling. Seems to be a workaround for a few people and something to try perhaps whilst we take a closer look.
Yeah, I reinstalled. If I try and travel to BM from Hot Wheels, it stays on the loading screen indefinitely. Haven't tried traveling to BM from the base game yet.

Also, I believe that when I quit the game from BM, it will crash the next time I try and Continue from the main menu (save spot in BM).

I'm getting very good performance most of the time but then occasionally when driving the open world I'm still getting enormous frame drops from 80+ fps into the 40-50 range... The drops just feel random tbh. It's like my car jerks around and the game freezes for a second or two.

i7 6700k
16 gb ram
gtx 1070

on 1440p/high

Same, and I still have microstuttering.

Game runs like a dream for me now. Don't know exact fps cause I'm using gsync so it feels very smooth all the time. Latest Nvidia drivers, latest windows update etc, using GTX 980ti, i7 5820k 4.2ghz, 16gb ram at 1440p. I can finally use 4xMSAA without stuttering.

This patch has gotta be done of the biggest improvements I've seen in a game, ever. Amazing work by the FH team.

Yep, and my game ran well even before. But I'd get dips in Surfer's Paradise. Now I get 60 fps locked regardless of conditions (1440p Ultra settings on a 6600k with 1070).

Props to the Playground Games team for sticking with it and improving the performance of this game!

EDIT--another thing that appears to be fixes is car interiors. Sometimes the glass was WAY too dark. Now it matches the exterior lighting conditions much better.

Is MSI Afterburner cool with this game? I'd like to finally track frametime objectively.

the new version of RTSS added UWP support

http://www.guru3d.com/files-details/rtss-rivatuner-statistics-server-download.html

Version 7.0.0

Added initial Microsoft UWP applications support. Now RivaTuner Statistics Server provides full On-Screen Display, framerate/frametime statistics collection and framerate limiting support for sandboxed Windows 10 store applications. Screen capture and video capture are currently not supported in UWP environment

Any one have a 4690k, gtx 970, and 16 gb of ram? If so, what kind of frames are people getting on ultra at 1080p?

I posted this two pages ago. Got the same setup, just depends on your overclock:

Did a quick 10 minute check with new update.

i5 4690k @4.2ghz, GTX 970 OC, 16GB Ram.

Smooth 60fps everywhere including Surfers Paradise with everything set to high, MSAA x2 and FXAA, 1080p.

This really did fix everything. No micro stutters at all. It's like I upgraded my PC. Well done T10.

Awful download experience aside, this patch deserves all the praise it has gotten.

Just finished installing the game, didn't have very high hopes that it would do much for me but boy was I wrong.

All settings at max with 2xMSAA at 1440p and I'm finally getting 100-130FPS (usually sits around 120) where I before struggled to maintain 80+FPS no matter what settings I used. CPU load is evenly spread out on all my 12 threads and while the GPU usage isn't sitting at 100% all the time, the variation is much better than before and it's using more resources than it did previously.

Here's from 3 minutes of just driving fast through some jungle areas and on some open roads, lowest point was still 80% and it was very brief.

The best part is that I haven't seen a single stutter so far, which was my biggest annoyance before.

My specs are 1080Ti, i7 5820K@4.4GHz, 16GB DDR4@2666MHz
The game finally runs like I would expect it to on this rig and now I'm actually considering buying Hot Wheels too.

i dont think any cpu has 4x the single core IPC of jaguar. but no, no cpu can come close to sustaining 120

Anybody experience any crashes yet? I never had *that* many issues getting the game to run at an acceptable framerate but it did crash on me at least once a session before the patch. Interested to see if this fixes those issues because if so I'm down to give it another shot.

This dlc looks rather cool and nice to see horizon have a more lighthearted approach to things, storm island and the snow dlc are cool too but fantasy fast tracks and loops? nice nice!

I'm stuck at 30 fps (Xbox One). I can't even imagine 60.

It's not forza AI unless they break before important fast zones or early for no reason.

Woah, half a year later and it's finally stutter free! I barely made it to the second festival originally as the stuttering just killed the experience. Frame rate smoothing appears to work properly now too since a quick spin without changing settings from ultra/4k was still very playable despite bouncing from 50-60 fps.

2500K 4.5

After about an Hour of playing I had huge stutter and locking up. It was really bad. This was with any setting. Also ran about 45-60fps at 1080p at ultra. I know my specs arent great but thats what I'm getting after the patch. Ran around 50 for me in surfers paradise and would lock up and stutter going fast out in the desert. Maybe its my settings but it even did it on Low.

i5 3570k, 970. Runs a bit better, getting a solid 50+ in Surfer's Paradise, but there's still a ton of stuttering. And the ground is intermittently invisible, but I'm hoping it'll be cleared up after a restart lol

I haven't had the ground invisible , but I think its bad enough stuttering wise for me that Ill still refrain from getting the expansions. Sucks. I WAS ready to spend money on it lol.

I had that bug on Forza Horizon 2 a couple of times. I think the Xbox One's slow HD was at fault when it happened to me.

I know it supports it, but I haven't read anything insofar as them making a stance of allowing it. A comment earlier here alluded to the fact that it might have triggered the ban hammer on them.

i7 3770k, gtx 1070 ftw. Now always above 60fps but I do still get occasional microstutters.

Not completely out of the woods yet, but this made the game way, way more enjoyable. I'll be picking up the hot wheels stuff.

I use it all the time, I haven't had any issues with it besides screenshots not working which I think is mentioned in one of the change logs.

Will I get 60fps locked? Going by thread so far most people with my CPU/GPU have 16 GB of memory. Not sure if that makes a big difference or not.

I've been holding off on buying this since launch for the PC port to be fixed.

Same setup and feel just as you do. I'm still a quest for locked 60fps, but even with this improvement I actually want to sink more time into this game now.

The hotwheels expansion is amazing. I'm surprised how big it is.
