Forza Horizon 3 PC Performance Thread

Here's what I'm running now for a solid experience at 60fps

This is what I'm running now:
1600x900
vsync on
frame smoothing off
60fps limit in game

16xAF
Shader High
Motion High
Env Texture High
Static Geo Medium
Dynamic Geo Ultra
MSAA 4x
Reflection Ultra
Windshield Medium
Mirror Low (I only use external cam in this game)
Car detail High

In NVidia control panel, my game setting looks like so
uRViS8d.jpg

1uYXUFZ.jpg

i7 6700k 4.5Ghz, GTX 970 1550/3850Mhz, 2x8GB RAM 3000Mhz CL14.

My game won't even launch any more. It flashes up briefly as if it's going to load but nothing, nada, zip.

Edit: NVM, I forgot I turned Windows Updates and BITS processes off.

We're never getting locked 60fps, it's fundamentally designed to run at 30fps. The pop in is absolutely dreadful at 60fps as well.

The saving grace is that the game still feels decent at 30fps and frame rate is still locked at 4K with a 1070+.

The performance is already fixed. It's not up there where it should be just going off the graphics quality but it's perfectly playable.

Still plenty FPS drops below 60 at only 1080p and very good PC specs. It's playable, yes, but it's not enjoyable. Funny thing is CPU and GPU is almost idle when playing this game, don't think I saw CPU usage above 20% and GPU usage above 50%.

Also there are many bugs in PC version:
Black windscreen in cockpit view.
Black tire tracks on sand at certain lighting conditions.
Engine sound is completely messed up during replays.

Probably more but this is what i noticed after just 1-2 hours of testing PC version.

I disagree. When the fastest intel cpus with sillicon lottery overclocks can barely mantain 2x the performance of the jaguar in xbone the port is broken

If this is fixed, I'd hate to see what you consider broken!

It may perform as expected at very high resolutions, but drops below 60 at 1080p on 980Ti grade hardware (with no benefit dropping res or settings) is pathetic. I certainly haven't played a game on PC with lower lows at 1080p.

Still get the odd CtD. Not as many but still there. The first two weeks of this game was brilliant for me. Then it all turned to shit after patches and driver updates. Still think the games great fun but a mediocre PC port. Give the next game to someone like Nixxes to port.

Also I can not understand the online connection with Xbox Live on the PC. First it has 100% packet loss and 4 billion ms lag. Immediately check again and it's all fine. Immediately check again and it's back to shit. Repeat ad nauseam. Totally worthless.

I still get fps drops sometimes as low as 48fps if its raining at night at the start of a race.
I had my first CTD yesterday too.

Its still the worst performing game I own.

Just spent a little over an hour with the game, after picking up a new video card today.

i5-3570K
8GB RAM
GTX 1060 6GB

The game runs beautifully, way better than I was expecting. I'm not super frame-intensive in my games, so the results I ended up with are perfect for me. Getting 49-55fps, and then where everyone else is having trouble it only drops down to 42-44fps. No stuttering, no difficulty playing, everything on High/Ultra.

I love the hell out of this game!

I'm on a laptop that's able to handle the game just fine on anything but 1080, it doesn't make any sense. It can be on low and still stutter, it's not even the framerate itself that drops.

Any other resolution is fine but 1080. Anyone else have this issue or a possible fix?

youre getting less than 2x xbone performance on your rig. thats not beautifully.

Id guess that if xbone housed those same specs it would likely run at close to a locked 120 fps in a theoretical scenario

For me personally it's running beautifully. I guess it's all about opinion and preferences, and I get the troubles people have been having with the game and how it's not running up to standard. I'm more than happy with the performance, though!

I'm coming off a 2GB four year old card that could barely run Apex, so this is definitely an upgrade.

i havent really had too many frame drops in this game

i get 1080/60 on ultra with an i7/1070

sometimes it drops to 55-60 with rain and a lot of other cars, but seems rare

The newest AMD drivers gave me something I've never seen before... Micro-tearing. Not one big tear across the screen, but lots of tiny little tears all over the screen at the same time. It's awful. This is the first time I've had tearing of any kind in this game, no matter the sync/fps-cap setting.

I get that your satisfied, but you need to look at the specs and your perf and compare it to the xbone to be objective. The visuals on ultra barely scale at all above xbone settings, and even if you lower the settings to match xbone perf doesnt really improve much regardless

I've given up playing this game on pc (6700k, 1070) and switched to xb1. Main reason being input lag, no matter what I try the game feels a lot better and more responsive to play on the xbox.

It's been weeks (?) since I had a chance to play this, so I'm really curious how it'll feel on PC now. Previously, it had run well for me at 60 fps. If I limited it to 30 fps, I would have noticeable input delay, which I avoided like the plague.

Patch hasn't helped me. If anything it's introduced a weird warping effect where it's not even a stutter now but an actual pause.

It also still thinks my 3570k, GTX 1070 and 8GB is only capable of medium settings with autodetect (and even then medium still has issues).

I think there may now be input lag at 60 FPS but I need more time with the game. I've also been having Nvidia driver issues lately so I can't rule that out. Anyone else notice this? If not then I'll assume it's related to my driver problems.

This is with vsync off and smoothing off like I've been playing with for a while.

Try changing your frame rate smoothing option.

Not done a great deal of testing but this seems the best yet, also using the latest NVidia drivers.

One thing I still have to do is untick CPU0 in affinity otherwise I get too much CPU load on the first core with not much happening elsewhere, (the magic of DX12 running like a DX9 game).

Before I was playing it at 4k capped at 30 and now I can actually consider going for 60fps at a lower res. i7 930 1070.

For anyone at MS, the store/game update is still fucked up. I boot the game, it notifies about the update and takes you to the store, you download it, 2gb in this case, start the game and it will tell you about the update again, you go back and it will do a 20-30mb download and that's it. You start the game and it will again tell you about the update, this cycle can go forever and the store page will have an arrow down option to redownload the whole game only.

What I do to get around this is click on games within the store, navigate to Downloads and Updates page list, then click on the game thumbnail, this will take you to the games store page but magically a blue update button will appear next to the box art, then you simply click on it and it will finalize the update properly, and the bottom right corner it will tell you Forza H 3 has been updated, check it out. Letting the game take you to the store will always bring up some partial store page and allows the infinite update cycle. Inevitably some users will just see no other option than to just download the whole game.

So the game boots into a really low resolution stat now after the update. It also crashes as soon as I try to go into the video options....

Are you playing on a TV via HDMI? I had a problem with this in some games, and it turns out my TV runs at 59.94Hz (I think), not exactly 60.

Have you tried resetting the game to default settings?

Go to your pc Settings -> System -> Apps & Features -> Forza Horizon 3 -> Advanced Options -> Reset.

Please note that I'm not sure if this will delete your local save file or not, but there should be a cloud save backup so long as you've been playing while connected to the internet.

Yeah I did this shortly after I posted. It crashed a few times after I reset the data and now allows me into the game. My performance is still decent and stuttering is now pretty much non existent with this latest update and latest Nvidia drivers.

Something just happened to my game. I haven't played in a week - went in and it did the auto config again. Checked the settings it was mostly fine. Played for a bit - it was running 60+ for the most part (except surfers tram area), then I started playing with the settings to get back to a solid 60 (which is really most settings on High - instead of the Ultra the game selects for me). Had to exit, and come back. When I went to take my car out - boom the game starts running really bad, like 40 down to 30 fps. I tried exiting and changing the settings, but nothing is working. My friend had this exact same issue - has anyone else experienced this?

Just want to chime in. I finally have stable 60fps everywhere (race, tram, jungle) with most settings on Ultra!

I'm running a 5820k and a GTX 1080.
1080p
4x MSAA
Static Geo at Medium
Shadows at High

No Core bullshit necessary.

This sounds like your display driver may be crashing. I experienced this a lot before I upgraded my gpu from a gtx 770 4GB to a gtx 1080. Try going into the device manager and disabling/re-enabling your gpu driver. After that check and see if that has improved the game's performance.

I'm not sure what card you have, but there has been a memory leak issue listed in the known issues of NVidia's drivers for Forza Horizon 3. I'm assuming the cause of the driver crashing is due to running out of VRAM. Until the issue is fixed you may have to do this pretty frequently or lower the game's settings until you have a sizable amount of free VRAM available to act as a cushion.

Did you have a window open in the background? That'll tank your FPS sometimes. I wish I was kidding.

Patch seems to have helped a bit in Surfer's paradise. Still a dip or two but nothing as extreme as it was before, and this was while raining.
