I listened to the new Weekend Confirmed and I was surprised by Garnett's disinterest in the Auto Vista mode. For being a car lover, I'm not sure how he could not like it. He ragged on the Kinect part of it (which is completely optional, which he forgot to mention. Anyone else listen to Weekend Confirmed??

He did however praise the new handling model, which sounds fantastic.

Yeah I listened to it, I was surprised but those are his opinions. He did seem impressed by the head tracking thing.

But yeah the handling comment was interesting I can't wait to play this game.

I think the autovista thing is awesome, but I can see his point. I don't know that I will spend a lot of time on it but it depends how its implemented really.

Garnett has changed a lot, seems he's more in grumpy old men mode nowadays. Was it the Weekend Confirmed with Mangod? Yeah, I shut that off after 15 minutes.

Yeah, was hard to listen to the last episode, he is quite a downer on everything.

To be honest, Autovista is one of the aspects I'm looking forward to the most in FM4.

Beyond the obvious car porn appeal, I just geek out at the thought of being able to closely examine an Enzo's inboard pushrod suspension or a Koenigsegg's "dihedral synchro-helix" door mechanism. These games already let us drive representations of cars most of us will never so much as catch a glimpse of, and seeing them rendered with this level of detail goes even further in giving them a sense of reality.

I do agree with Garnett that the inevitably limited number of Autovista cars is going to be a major downer. 50 or so cars at these specs is what I'm expecting, and it will be very interesting to see if more are included in DLC.

And yes, his handling impressions were nothing but good news.

It sounded like Garnett didn't realize you didn't need a Kinect to use it.

I'm really looking forward to the Auto Vista as well. The commentary by Clarkson and Egan will be fun to listen too, not too mention looking the highly detailed models.

If there is 50 cars in Auto Vista I will be pretty happy with that number. More would be great, but some cars obviously don't really need the treatment or would be more or less repetition due being very similar to other models.

I'm really looking forward to Autovista. I mean, if you are a car geek, you would as well. Going over all points of interest, the close up shots of the car's finer details, Clarkson, turning over the engine, test drive..etc are all things I'm going to enjoy. If anything, it's a sort of kick back and relax mode that you can chill out to in between endless hotlapping and racing.

Can someone give me the jist of Garnett's comments about the handling?

Alan Hartman interview (I think nothing new besides the footage)

They already showed almost 20 autovista cars. I'm expecting 50+.

20 ? Are you sure ? I made a list a while back but I had included the pre-order cars which after the comments we heard from Turn 10 at E3 I think won't be Autovista cars. IIRC the list wasn't that long.

So far we know :

McLaren F1
Enzo Ferrari
Ferrari 458 Italia
Ferrari 250 Testa Rossa
Ferrari California
Lexus LFA
McLaren Mercedes-Benz SLR
Peugeot 908 HDi FAP
Ford GT
Lamborghini LP670-4 SV
Lamborghini Reventon
Aston Martin One-77
Spyker C8 Laviolette LM85
Bugatti Veyron
Koenigsegg CCX
Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG
Gumpert Apollo S
Pagani Zonda Cinque Roadster

Fake edit : yeah, we're indeed almost at 20 already... xD

50+ is actually a huge number, then. We're used to hearing 500 cars but sometimes forget that not all of them are unique, especially if they include team cars that are very similar but with only different decals. And cars that are only a couple generations apart. A minimum of 50 for autovista would be perfect.

Also, they could very well throw in a couple new autovista cars a month in DLC. I get all tingly.

@Shaneus : Turn 10 seem to want very special cars (Veyron, Enzo, etc..) and cars that aren't necessarily know by everyone (Koenigsegg, Spyker, etc...) in there so I wouldn't be surprised if most if not all of the cars from the Exotic Car Pack ended up being Autovista cars (2 are already confirmed) :

SSC Ultimate Aero
JOSS JT1
Weismann GT MF5
Devon GTX
Spada Codatronca TS
Spyker C8 Laviolette LM85
Mosler MT900s
Q1 Rossion
Radical SR8 LM
Gumpert Apollo

BTW, I forgot to mention in my last post that the 2012 BMW M5 could be an Autovista car too. It is shown in the Autovista part of the trailer and the dashboard seems very detailed :

i believe all dlc cars we get for fm4 are going to be AV ready.
All the work going into those models will come in handy for fm5, anyway; with driving games devs can basically have people support development for the next installment by selling car models as they're being made, that's why i'm 100% sure fm4 is going to feature all fm3 dlc; those were not being made to make a profit being sold as dlc, those were being made for fm4 and T10 thought they could squeeze some more money out of them by releasing them as dlc or fm3.
With fm5 or 6 t10 might be aiming at having all cars AV ready. Those basically are the definitive mesh; you will never, ever, have to touch those models again, that kind of detail will never become old. They might even sell those models to other devs or CG companies.

Also, I think they have high poly versions of some of the tracks as well. I remember seeing some renders of tracks, even the new Alps one, in much higher quality. Sets them up nicely for FM5 and 6.

With the original Veyron already confirmed for AV, I just hope the super sport is still in the game.

Yeah yeah, you can mod the original to 1300hp+, but its not the same :/

I really want to try that out. Now that I think about it that wheel might be better than the controller when I'm to lazy to use my Fanatec and just lounging on the couch. I have to wonder if you need to hold it level for it to work or could it be on like a 45 degree angle and still work properly.

Isn't the new MS air-wheel missing some controls? There's no LB/RB or right-stick that I can see, so how do you have both a clutch & handbrake and look around?

FM4 Wants:
I really hope the European GT3 cars (not just the Audi) make it in this time or if you could build a race car from a road car and have it qualify for a given classification based on spec (the aforementioned GT3 cars are all built off the production cars). Probably a pipe dream.

Make split-screen as capable as online— our Xbox is hooked up to a projector, so split-screen is a fantastic experience already. We've had some great races and are frequently disappointed by the lack of a replay. We'd like more AI cars too.

I'm intrigued as well as a pad player. I've been fine using the analog sticks for both gas/brake and steering, but this would seem a reasonable middle ground between that at a full wheel. If the price is right, I could be convinced to switch.

Edit: Just read that this is going to be $60. Not interested at that price.

Just listened to the Forza 4 segment in Weekend Confirmed, and I'm also surprised at how down Garnett was on the AutoVista mode. As someone who's never going to be that up-close with any of those cars, I'm interested in seeing, hearing and learning more about them. Seems like a great addition, especially considering the team's desire to cater to all kinds of car lovers, not just sim racers.

I also broke down and pre-ordered the Microsoft wireless wheel. I was initially pretty disappointed that there are no bumper buttons, but I'm willing to try it out. It looks fun, anyway, and I need something that can slip into a drawer, instead of taking up a bunch of room (like a Fanatec setup).

You know, to be honest ... now that I have the Wheelstand and Wheel the space it takes is negligible, it's like putting away a vacuum cleaner or something. I can't believe how much time/space that thing has saved me from my 4 bolts on the Ikea chair method.

I was curious though, has anything been mentioned of how they will support wheels? I never looked in Forza 3 since I didn't have a wheel at the time but do they have a similar setup like they do in GT5 where you can look at certain wheels and calibrate in the options? GT2 is coming tomorrow to replace my Carrera and am hoping all the stuff is fully supported.

yeah i have an open mind about the wireless wheel. obviously it isnt going to be the same thing as a full FF Fanatec (and isn't trying to be) but as an alternative to the pad or something for fun in other games i am willing to give it a look. it is an alternative to a pad, not an alternative for a Force Feedback wheel, and needs to be viewed as such.

$60 feels steep, but if the reviews show it to be a good, accurate piece of hardware i guess i could justify it. i mean, i will be playing Forza 4 with the pad if i am playing online for keeps, but as a diversion i get what they are going for.

Forza has options like button remapping, deadzones for wheel/accelerator/clutch and brake.

Nothing specific for a Fanatec though.

I loved the 'Mr. T' interview on ISR, that ClubSport wheel looks awesome. Looking forward to the shifter too.

Wait. There's possibly a Clubsport wheel coming with quick release wheels?

I can't buy the elite if that's the case.

They did mention the elite wheel is 500 bucks. If that's the case then sign me up, but if there's a clubsport wheel on the way I may just hold off.

Thats one happy car.

Fucking car faces are the worst things ever. They cannot be unseen and the vehicle in question can no longer be taken seriously.

The 599 GTO is now a clown car.

That is about to ingest a miniature horse. :(

That's why I hate most of the new Mazda cars. That fucking smile ...

So after all the Forza 4 hype, I've jumped back into Forza 3. I had pretty much all the auto assists turned off before in order to bump up my credits. But jumping back into the game and trying to drive a supercar was kind of ridiculous. So I turned on the traction control and ABS to help myself out a bit.

I'm not much of a car nut, so I'm curious as to whether or not most of these race cars would have traction control and ABS if you drove them in real life. Because, while it may be more hardcore to have them off, is that really realistic? Just wondering. Someone set me straight.

Yes, most supercars have TC.

I think ABS is off for almost every race championship. TCS was prohibited in F1 couple of years ago (I think it's off for V8 Australia and Nascar too).
The ALMS allows TCS for some cars. I remember a GT2 guy which tested FM2 and he turned TCS on to match the real feeling of the car.

I think most sport and supercars have assists like ABS and traction control. People would kill themselves without the assists.
