Forza Motorsport 4 - The Floodgates Have Opened...

Holy shit! T10.

Turn Fucking 10. You magnificent bastards.

There's so much to do per track per mode, per car, per track section in photomode that you guys will lose your self in something and won't complete shit in another section.

This is game is packed to the gills with content and all of it is worth serious time invested in it.

This is ridiculous.

Like the step up from FIFA 11 to FIFA 12, there's no going back to Forza 3 now. The changes and updates are too welcome and widespread. The improved visuals, the added cars on track, the wealth of new race types, the tweaked AI and closer racing, the ferocious sound and superior sense of speed, the even better livery editor, the lot. With Forza 4 Turn 10 has crafted a driving game like no other; it's hands-down this generation's premier racing simulator.
IGN sounded very excited,lol

Great write-up man. Noticed you spelled "Burmese Alps" wrong though, it's "Bernese Alps" ;)

Edit: And just noticed I'm no longer a Junior Member, woot woot!

Oops, late night. Will fix when I get off this bus!

Thanks.

Not surprised at all by all the love Forza 4 is getting. It truly is the best racing game I've played and I have a good feeling that a lot of other reviewers will feel the same way. Congrats to the team at Turn 10!

interesting things from the Giant Bomb quicklook so far:

-Jeff thinks 4 is not dramatically different from Forza 3
-Jeff thinks the AI hasn't changed much from F3
-you now level up manufacturer, not cars(he's level 4 with Honda and already has 100% free upgrades)
-he used the speed wheel, said it is "pretty ... interesting"

AI seems pretty different to me. It seems much more competitive to me now.

I always played FM3 on hard so the AI hasn't really given me a problem in 4 so far.

Although its given that the few number of races that I have done have been really competitive.

Yeah...if he's playing with all assists on, and on a normal/easy difficulty, I wouldn't think he'd notice much improvement...doesn't seem like a fair assessment.
The demo's AI on professional was perfect for me. Better than FM3.

There was no way to get that in FM3 right? I don't remember ever getting such deals.

Could level 5 mean free cars? We might actually be able to "Sandbox" tune cars this time around. I always wanted to just take cars and mod the hell out of them just for fun, but I always ran out of cash so quickly, I never managed to get through all my "projects".

ahh, yes. I can say that now.

Yesterday i was racing on Sunset peninsula on an Alfa Mito with Fanatec wheel and head tracking.
Then Fujimi Kaido on a muscle car.
Then, Laguna Seca on a T-birt.

At this point it just suddenly occurred to me I was playing the best.....or at least my favourite racing game ever.

Sigh, Jeff has been playing Trackmania and Forza together for over a week now. He's not really paying attention the nuance of the game and he's getting bored because he's playing the most arcade racing game at the same time.

After lvl 4, you only get bigger cash bonuses.
Free parts are great to experiment though.

As I said before, hard AI feels easier than the demo and FM3. Even when I Slightly damage my ("yellow/oramge" transmission or engine for example), I can still catch up the red car. AI have a tendancy to crash a lot too, at least at the level I am at the moment.

Holy shit, if 100% free performance upgrades are in then we are in for some awesome tuning action.

Yep. You get them very quickly. I started with the Ka and had free reign in a very short amount of time. :)

he's wrong though. At least on a proper wheel the game feels *absolutely nothing* like fm3.
Weight shift, the way you can lose awd cars, the way you approach a corner on an awd car, the way they react to less than smooth wheel maneuvres..and muscle cars. Muscle cars are completely different and different is the way cars react to upgrades etc.
AI is a lot quicker, a lot more responsive and a lot smarter. You just have to leave the post race on and watch the cpu drive your car to see that.
But it's true AI still brakes too much and too soon and it's true what G-Rom says : the game feels easier than fm3 and than fm4 demo.
No idea why, i guess i'm just early in career and cpu will get harder later.

Interesting. I guess I'll just be leaving it at pro, then.
Also, is it possible to despoiler the Escort? Pretty pretty please...
When I'm talking about hard AI, I'm talking about pro difficulty.
Don't know about the Escort.

And yes you do get a random amount of money each day you go to the community section. :)

Jeff got 5000 CR for just signing into the storefront for the day. That's new right?
Yes, you get a random amount of credits every day for simply going into the Community menu. Pretty cool incentive to get players to go into the Community and interacting with it.

Edit: Beaten.

Yeah, I agree. I don't know how long he had been playing it, but he got like 27 achievements for it.

Yes, you get them for free fairly quickly. Saves you a lot of money too, in order to spend your credits on what's most important, buying new cars.

Makes sense when you think about it, now the AI will have tuned cars to almost every race. If you want to stay competitive, you'll have a heck of a lot of tuning to do on a lot of different cars. That way it actually makes it possible to keep up.

oh thank god they added the DLC ribbon to downloaded cars. F3 sucked at this, it would only put a star by it until you highlighted the car, then it would look like all the other cars. This led me to always miss out on driving the new cars because I'd forget which ones are new.

Great write up!

Thanks! :D

Hopefully we can sit down again next week and take a look at the multiplayer. I'm pretty confident in saying that between you, me and the entire Forza community we know that's pretty much a golden experience :)

7 days left, Wooooooo

Giant Bomb quick look concludes: it's pretty cool; pretty similar.

Gamespot score: 8.5 Also says it is similar to F3.

Do we need a review thread when we'll have an OT anyway?

PS. How's that going?
PPS. Turn 10, smashing shit up. Glad they went down the route of perfecting what they could rather than try and mash in different modes like rally, weather or night racing. They now have a solid foundation for the Nextbox.

I can see why you might think it is very similar to Forza 3 if you are not exploring every new feature and are no racing nut that can feel the difference in driving.

Anyway. Great job, Turn 10 - fantastic scores so far.

oops, quick look just said he gives a run down on every car. so is that right?
Nope, they are mistaken. Playing the game right now and the only place I see for Jeremy Clarkson rundowns are in Autovista mode at the front of each car.

Also noticed in the Giantbomb QL at 29:45 that they show and mention my free Forza 4 CA license plate vinyl group that I created and uploaded on the storefront lol
