Freedom Planet 2 In Development

Oooo this is great news! I liked the first game quite a bit -- it was certainly a love letter to Sonic and I really enjoyed the game play. I can't say much about the story but it was a great little game. It oozes with passion.

I like all the character sprite/character updates outside of Lilac's -- she looks more humanoid than "water dragon" to me.

I think this needs to be a pretty important point amongst all the (earned!) positives. The other characters all look great except for what's happened to Lilac. The way she looks now actually makes it harder for me to believe in her character. It needs tweaking before release.

I hope when they say they're recreating the physics they're not doing it verbatim, because there were serious issues with the way the original game controlled. Still looking forward to this regardless.

The game seems to have gotten a lot better since I last played it, but Sonic it is not. To me it evokes something more along the Mega Man Zero. Yes, it has some of the Sonic trappings like curved geometry and the art style, but having the camera that zoomed in and having standard enemies take multiple hits stop the two from feeling anything alike. And that's ok, it plays fine now so it doesn't really matter.

Yep its more like a cross between various platform games including Sonic rather then a straight clone and that's great as the game is its own thing rather then just another Sonic fangame. I love how the character choice dramatically changes the game also, playing Milla especially is like an entirely different game.

Does the first game have any fast moving sections like Sonic? Those tend to not be great for me with my migraines. 😕
Play as the green character or the bunny. The purple one goes fast more than the others, whike the rabbit is the slowest but also has the most unique and tricky gameplay style.

Agreed. Really liking everyone else's redesigns, but I'm not feeling Lilac. She looks rather uncanny. :/

Really liked the first game (I got the collectors edition via Indie Box recently) but I'm also a bit iffy on the art direction for the sequel.
If it still plays fantastically then I'll get over it though!

I really like the new designs for everyone but Lilac, Lilac's' is pretty bad.

Focusing more on bosses means I'm probably out, the bosses in the first one weren't a highlight for me.

Just a heads up, TysonTan (the guy doing the general art style) is doing various style experiments based on feedback and whatnot to find a good balance in a variety of factors.

Those who didn't like Lilac's new art may find the new art here to be a lot better, I certainly do.

Both episodes of Sonic 4 are basically in the same "this isn't a horrific abomination, but still so embarrassing that we'd rather just pretend it doesn't exist" territory as Devil May Cry 2 at this point, I think. So arguing its place in the 'continuity' of Sonic is kinda pointless.

Arguing about the Sonic continuity in general is pointless.

Damn, those sprites look so good.

I honestly wish I didn't know about this game yet. I'd so much rather hear about it closer to release, because now the wait is going to be awful.
