GAF: Can /you/ do a Dragon Punch motion?

I used to do two double quarter circles to let one rip. Then some games started to use double quarter circles for supers. I still can't do it as effectively facing left as I can facing right.

On gamepad yes.

On Arcade stick.... I can do it perfectly if I am on 2p side (right), but only 60% of the time on 1p side (left). ;(

Learning the Dragon Punch was an incredible feat for 12 year old me. Once you got the motion right most of the other moves will work as well.

Today i find it much harder to get the timing right, for example in Lei's combos in Tekken.

I think a more interesting question would be who can do a SPD motion consistently.

I can do do it maybe 50% of the time. 0% in an actual game.

SPDs aren't a problem for me, but if we're confessing things then I have trouble doing d,d,d or f,f,f moves (Akuma's KKZ or King's Instant Shining Wizard) in a pinch. Feels uncomfortable. Guess I have a weak wrist.

Yep, its easy enough even on my d-pad snes days. 360/720 + p is understandable though if people cant, but dragon punch? You're in the wrong forum imo if you can't. Though its not being used much now i guess.

Yeah, I remember they used to give me a hard time when I was a kid though. I always used to try to do double quarter forwards instead of a dp lol

I find it way to difficult to do the Dragon Punch motion, I think that's part of the reason I don't really play many fighting games other than Mortal Kombat as that games moves are a lot easier for me to do consistently.

Yes, it's a basic input. I find full circle motions far more difficult.

Yeah me too. I need to figure out the secret of not jumping during 720s

SRKs though, I find easy, on a fightstick or d-pad. I used to have problems with them like... a long time ago back in the 90s but I've had plenty of time practicing, lol.

I loaned my Xbox One to a family friend who was visiting and staying with my parents last summer and he was having a tough time doing Jago's dragonpunch move. I had a difficult time explaining how to do it other than just the inputs and "try making a Z". I guess it's just something that takes time.

Yeah but I still haven't 100% nailed it. The motion is easier when you think of it as tapping forward before your standard quarter circle forward.

I really thought this post was about actually performing the move yourself in person! I've never had troubles doing this in current games, took me a while though. I used to get my ass kicked on TMNT Tournament Fighter game on Mega Drive/Genesis when I was a kid, my friend used to pull the move over and over and I could never do it. That game (and weeks of having a sore thumb) is the reason why it's sort of ingrained now.

I understood the frustration only when I set ST speed at 6 and used this pad here....right side shoryukens were a nightmare....

Sure it's easy on a D-Pad. Just press forward and then perform quickly a Fireball and you've your Dragon Punch. But what I really don't like are these 2sec. charges in one direction like Guile's Sonic Boom or Balrog's special attacks. Oh and yeah the Ultra Move from Guile in SFIV lol fuck that.

I can do it but honestly i think that's one of the worst, unnecessary and most unnatural motion ever, it should be eliminated, but since it's tied to an iconic move no one says anything against it.

Seems like I'm the only one not having any difficulties performing a shoryuken with the analog stick.

Shoryuken's are probably impossible to do consistently on an analog stick because of how they deal with inputs and sensitivity. Some may argue the other way but D-Pads and Joysticks will always be the more accurate option for fighting games.

With d-pad, yes.
With arcade stick, yes.
With analog stick, hell no.

Only motion that I have trouble doing is the one for Guiles double flash kick / Blankas shout of the earth / Claws whatever. I kinda get it if I go from db -> df -> db -> ub but even that doesn't work always especially when trying to go from super to ultra with Guile.

On the topic of how you actually perform it. I actually vary depending on the pad. On a good circle pad(Saturn,MD, Madcatz Street Fighter pads) I'll do the Z motion as it feels natural to me on those because of how I can rest and roll my thumb. I struggle on the plus shaped pads(I include PS in this even if its a broken plus) to do that though and go for the forward then fireball motion but I find that less reliable and more likely to accidentally push out a QCF QCF super.

I think a more interesting question would be who can do a SPD motion consistently.

I can do do it maybe 50% of the time. 0% in an actual game.

Been playing fighting games for years, but still haven't looked into playing grapplers because of SPD motions. Could anyone who regularly plays grapplers/Zangief can go more into that motion? Are there shortcuts, is it an actual 360 motion, and where can the motion begin and end?

DP motion is difficult enough and still something I can be a little slow to execute when actually needed.

Not reliably no, I've always struggled with fighters that required complex analog or directional inputs to make the moves work. I can appreciate them and flail with the best of them but I can never love them.
