GAF's Nintendo Discussion, News, and Speculation |OT|

I thought the main campaign was like 50-55 hours. It feels like I'm reaching the ending.

I don't want to give you spoilers, but if it's the first time you think you're close to the end then you're not actually close to the end, it's like the 2/3 point lol.

On the bright side, the game does get better in the part you're likely entering now. It may feel a bit overlong, but it's worth it.

Just got a copy of Dragon Quest XI, enjoying it so far.
Quite a few RPGs either out or coming out in the next few months that I want for Switch.

Also need to find a way of removing that little game card flap, it kinda sucks for swapping games lol.

Speaking of, I got a spoiler question
I never finished the epilogue on the PS4 version, when I go back in time to save Veronica do I ever get the experience or levels gained back from the future? Or am I just stuck at the mid 30's or whatever for my squad and have to build up. I'm almost at the point where Veronica dies on the switch version so I'm curious about this. Don't spoil the whole thing for me I'm just curious about the levels lost.

I don't think it's boring. I have loved every minute of it. Magical adventure so far.

As to where I'm at,
I have currently joined forces with Sir Hendrick and infiltrated Heliodor Castle in order to rid it from the monsters that have infested it.

I'm playing Bulletstorm: Duke of Switch Edition and Xenoblade Chronicles 2.

I still have a long ways to go for XC2, I'm only 45 hours in so I'm not sure I'll be able to beat it by the time Xenoblade Chronicles Definitive Edition comes but I'm gonna try.

Bulletstorm is pretty fun but the main highlight is Duke Nukem. I just really love his lines and how they're delivered, really makes the story enjoyably silly. Seems like it's a short game so I should have it done relatively quickly. After that I'll move to Doom 64 or Saints Row The Third.

I had just finished Rune Factory 4S, still the best farming sims game personally. Now I need to get back into Megaman Zero/ZX Collection, only managed to beat 2 games before getting burnout.

Yeah, not quite close to the end. Glad you're enjoying it, I absolutely LOVED it and it was my GOTY for 2018. The pacing was a bit weird, but to me that's part of the charm. Dragon Quest to me is the most Nintendo-like series that isn't done by Nintendo, the overall vibe is very similar.

Speaking of, I got a spoiler question

I actually don't remember lol but I want to say that aside from the final boss, the game is very grind free so I never noticed being underleveled.

I did decide to get back into Octo, and this game goes in some surprisingly adult themed dark places in some character arcs.

Not what I was expecting from a T rated pixel art inspired RPG.

Truly is a great game. I remember putting it down when it first game out because it wasn't what I expected, and picked it back up recently. Almost 90 hours in and 3 more chapter 4's to go. Make sure you pay attention to all the way's the stories subtly have recurring themes and characters it is a really well crafted game. Looking forward to see what comes from the studio next.

I really enjoyed the wildly different tone that each character's story had. Went to some unexpected places.

Best to prepare for 5 pages of doom and gloom "where is my" Nintendo Direct-whining coupled with the obligatory Xenoblade defence force rethorics. Strap on boys and girls.

I recently watching some Xenoblade 2 videos. I'm really craving to replay the game again, to this day it still my favourite game on Switch.

120 hours in this game and I still haven't finished the final chapter. It's taken me about a year and a half to this point. Easily one of the best RPGs I've ever played.
While the story is nothing special IMO, the world, the battle system and the soundtrack all come together so well.
Never played the first game for more than a few hours, So I can't wait for that to come out. Don't tell anyone, but I absolutely LOVED Xenoblade X :messenger_smirking:

I mean, I dont know, I kind of missed the guy. He was funny and gave us things to talk about at least.

We'll see how he behaves in the coming weeks, hopefully he's chilled out. Right now I'm cool with him being back for now if he says that he's changed.

I dropped Xenoblade 2 after 75 hours. Got stuck on a boss and didn't muster up enough energy to grind. I grew tired of the battle system, too much qte and the health pools on enemies and bosses were just too much. Didn't like the progression system either on the blades and their various skills you had the upgrade, the merc-system or the side quests.

But the exploration and world building, the music, story and the characters were all amazing so I hope I can find the last bit of strength to be able to complete it. It's a damn fine game, although deeply flawed to be a sure fire hit in my eyes.

The Witcher 3 has sold roughly 700.000 copies on Switch since its release five months ago. I hope publishers realize that if you put some efforts into your port, and not half ass it like some does, your games will sell.

Overall, third party games and ports seems to do generally well on Switch, with some doing exceptionally well, despite naysayers that keep saying no one buys multiplats or old games because they're available on other platforms for a lesser price.

This is awesome news! By all accounts it's a great port. One which I would have got day one had I not already bought it on PC.
Honestly, I think for people who are Switch-only, or people who play exclusively handheld, these last-gen ports should sell well. Still some dumb stuff happening, like Activision releasing two huge trilogies + XCom on the same day, AND on the same day as Xenoblade... But, decent ports will sell, and this is fairly new territory on a Nintendo system. Good job to all involved!

Good for what it is and certainly profitable, but I can't help but wish that number were higher. Witcher 3 was at 20 million copies last year. A bit more thirst in evidence wouldn't hurt things.

Again though, given what the port must have cost, that's not a bad return on investment. Sales might stay steady or even pick up over time, especially if there's a Switch Pro in 2021.

I think, give it time. Major third party games on Nintendo is still a relatively new thing.

Much of Nintendo’s base has been conditioned to pick up these consoles for Nintendo’s own games + a handful of others (usually very Japanese-centric), and thus that paradigm needs to change over time, as well as gamers who aren’t strictly interested in Nintendo titles coming on board.

Well, really, there isn't much if any time left to give no matter what happens now. The window where the Switch was just close enough to get downports is about to close. PS4/XB1 are about to become the new floor for 3rd party games, and Nintendo will have to be content with indies and exclusives for the most part.

But that's just me and my crystal ball talking. We'll see what happens soon enough.

That's actually how much its sold in its first 2 and a half months since its stats for 2019.

It could be at a million now.

I thought this at first, but I’m not so sure now.

Microsoft and Sony have made multiple mentions towards both upcoming consoles being niche at first, with their current systems taking up the slack and continuing to be where most people game, because not everyone will be able to invest in expensive new hardware right off the bat. Microsoft’s first party development is even based around the concept — Series X won’t have exclusives for a year, if not more, sharing all those games with the Xbox One.

Third parties too have showed their belief in that approach as early as the beginning of this generation, with tons of cross-gen games for years.

If that’s indeed the case here, I can see Switch going on to be supported for a number of years, at which point the Series X/PS5 will become the new floor. At that point, I’m fully expecting to have a Switch 2.

Granted, I can’t say for sure. These developments have changed things, though.

Holy shit I'm so fucking angry right now. I had the Xenoblade CE pre ordered almost two weeks ago and this fucking trash tier retailer cancelled it just now outta nowhere. I'll never be able to get it now because they waited so long with doing this. SEEEETHING AAAAAAH

TBF The Witcher has a cult that buys the game in every possible form. I'm willing to bet the people that bought the game had already beaten it years ago.

Well the data was actually 700k for 2.5 months of 2019, it may had reached a mil by now.

From 1 million copies sold, how many of them do you think are actually rebuying the game for the price of $40-$60?

The game is close to 30 million sales in total. I know people that have over 200 hours on W3 and bought the game again so I'm assuming a good portion of people re bought it. Like I said people rebuy ports all the time. *given said series has a strong following*

People rebuy ports all the time, (Skyrim cough) how is stating that downplaying anything?

I think it's disingenuous to dismiss its success by simply claiming it's because of a hardcore fanbase that rebuys it no matter what, not because it was an excellent port of a revered game, and that Switch owners seems to embrace these high quality releases from third party publishers. A games success is built on a loyal fanbase, no doubt, but it's much more to it than that.

My dumbass was playing Octopath, and I finished most of the chapter 2 quests before finding out that the candelabra icons on the world map were for unlocking secondary jobs. /facepalm

From memory you don't really need the other jobs for the second chapters, but they'll definitely come in handy later on!

Didn't know this was happening. First AO rated game I've seen.

Wasn’t this one of the first post-GamerGate conflicts? Caused an absolute firestorm between the woke and normal players.

...It doesn’t really look that bad, lol. There’s worse in a variety of current blockbuster games; it’s just that the murder porn there is being dressed up as heroic. That AO rating looks like nothing but politics.

Not so hot of a game from what I hear, though.
