Game Grumps (aka Egoraptor plays some games)

I enjoyed the Mario 64 episode. He would have gotten done faster if he'd known about the coins that pop out of the four wooden posts. But he pounded them down. I was so sure he wasn't going to have enough coins without them but I guess there were more in the sky than I thought.

Singing has been confirmed to make it's return to Grumps. Seems polaris finally realized it was stupid since they wouldn't be in trouble for the grumps singing without music 5 seconds of random songs.

Main problem is that yt content id system will flag the signing and that means more work for the lawyers from polaris and because grumps put out 30+ min of content EVERY day that means way to much work.

That is why, they probably needed an exemption on the channel or a licensing deal and I assume that took some time.
But I guess its sorted out.

Surely the software that scans the audio track of every single video looking for a fingerprint and comparing it to every single song ever written couldn't be that smart to recognize when someone is badly parodying a song even though it doesn't sound anything like the original and has absolutely no background track to confirm.

If someone actually wrote software that smart, then the world is over. That's just too much and too goddamned stupid.

No, I'd say it really depends on if some asshole decides to watch the video and complain about it specifically. I'd feel even worse for the jerk who actually decides to check the claim and thinks Danny and Arin singing "My Humps" or something is enough to shut it down. Because that jerk would have the worst job in the world and should feel bad.

That said, I am glad they can just sing again. It always made me really sad when they stopped themselves and instead just complained about not being able to sing. Just sing! There is no way in hell a record company could possibly think a viewer would want to only listen to them sing a single verse and never want to listen to the original. Fuck, if anything, the Grumps make the record labels money when they mention songs. Hell, every time they do mention a song, by the time I get to the official VEVO video for it, it's filled with "GAME GRUMPS SENT ME!" comments.

I would hope the record labels aren't that dumb. I mean, the MPAA is really dumb seeing as we still have DRM on movies and TV shows but the RIAA has made it so music is been DRM-free for a decade now because one of those two companies actually used their head. Surely they wouldn't revert to stupid like this.

It's bad enough Bad Lip Reading had two of its best music video parodies taken down because some crazy Nikki Minaj, Will.I.Am and Taylor Swift fan decided they didn't like parody.

No its pretty good as far as I know, because also folks who sing on youtube also get content ID on YT for singing pop songs.
Sure maybe not EVERY song if its really bad, but I would bet that really was the case.

The difference is they were probably singing the whole song, right? Or the video title made it clear that it was the song? Danny and Arin only sing single verses or lines as part of their conversation. No algorithm written by man in this day and age could be that smart to cherry pick a 10 second segment like that. Especially singe the fingerprint for those 10 seconds would be very different from any song in their database due to the completely different voices and lack of background music.

I'd be shocked. Shocked! And saddened.

A lot of people have covers on YouTube. Some of them even got discovered due to their covers. I feel bad for future generations.

Even parts yes, content ID system is pretty nasty stuff, even if you have a sound that completely unrelated or even for just a few sec it gets grabbed by C/ID system.

Now your video does not go offline but you can't make any $ on it for at least 30 days in witch time most of the views of that video will get.

Yeah, it'll catch parts if they're the actual recordings, but a dude singing a single line couldn't possibly be caught by CID. That'd take such a pitch- and tone-perfect imitation that it wouldn't happen like that.

I'm glad they're talking about Jon stuff again, the stories in yesterday's DKC and today's Mario 64 were great

Do we know if the reason for the silence was really because of Polaris or just a self-imposed rule that they eventually decided to get rid of?

I feel like Arin's getting a better feel for Mario 64 which is nice. In terms of technical skills and deciding to like, get the 100 coin stars on 8 red coin stars (which is usually what I do - you basically start out with a free 16 coins)

My honest guess is that after the hard reaction to the change from Jon to Dan, they put in a personal rule to avoid talking about him to help everybody move on. Then the Magfest stuff happened, and eventually enough time had passed. Plus, it made sense for Dan to bring it up in the Pokemon episode. That sort of broke the barrier.

It's my theory, after this whole "NO SINGING!" fiasco from Polaris, that Polaris simply told them not to talk about him at all. And asked him not to really say anything at all as well. And we know how they love following what Polaris tells them to do. It's obvious Arin has no hard feelings anymore. If anything I'd say Jon really wanted to leave because he wasn't ready for such a big commitment (It was, as Arin said, just a silly online series they started on a whim. Who knew it would take off?) and wanted to do his own thing. Arin might have been hurt of course, and I'm sure there was some anger but it was never anything more than a simple argument. BUT the internet is going to internet and silence means obviously something is terribly wrong and all the rumors came out but neither of them were allowed to comment on it because almighty Polaris said not to.

I'm just glad it's over finally. I love the casual Jon stories and am glad to hear them. Hopefully it leads to possible guest visits from Jon in the future. The day that inevitably happens is the day the internet implodes.

Yeah, I really hope he goes for all 120, if not as many as possible. You can tell he's starting to love the game more after he saw he had 70 stars but wanted to keep going. If they got 120 stars it'd be the first game they ever fully completed. So here's hoping. I'm enjoying Mario 64 immensely and will gladly welcome as much as they are willing to do.

I've been rewatching some classic Grumps series' lately. Mario 1, 2 and World, DKC1 and others. I might even do yet another Goof Troop rewatch. I'd love to rewatch Sonic '06 but refuse to until they finish it. Which will probably never happen (Unless it's part of Jon's guest appearances) so it'll remain unrewatched. (How much of '06 did they even have left when they stopped?)

In bloodborne has Arin transformed his weapon yet, or used the gun to parry? Just curious.

He transformed the weapon in yesterday's episode to demonstrate that he knew how but prefers the short version.

I don't think he's used the gun yet

What is it about donkey Kong that makes them so scatterbrained? I tried episode 16 on a whim and it's just painful. Nothing changed about the boss except the helmet came off but instead "OMG THE GAME HAD CHANGED OF MY GOD WTF??? OMG!!!!" Boss continues exact same pattern as the whole fight this far, Ross dies immediately.

Ross doesn't understand change? Why am I surprised....

Ross, piracy isn't cool.

Still, I find it ludicrous to hear how much taxes fuck over video game markets.
Which episode was that?

Episode 17-18.

Ross talks about how he modded his PSX to play pirated games. He also talks about how he's never played a mainline Metroid game because they weren't available to him.

I'm not watching Bloodborne because I'm playing it and want to avoid spoilers, but I'm enjoying Mario 64 and DKC3 again.

I also like that they're talking about Jon. It's not crass, just happens to be releated stories.

I think a guest apperance is unlikely though, I think they'll still want to keep the distance a little.

At the moment, I'm enjoying DK Country 3 the most. It was always my favourite.

To be fair though, that was always a weird thing for the boss to do considering the fight changes after that hit. It's just hard to know what to expect when the boss's appearance changes for no reason.

I know I've said this before, but Danny and Arin talking about Minecraft in today's Bloodborne episode really makes me want a long Minecraft series like the Achievement Hunter guys do, with at least Danny and Arin, maybe Ross, Suzy, and/or Barry too.

I kind of suspect that they haven't because there ARE so many other Minecraft letsplayers, but it would be great.

Me too. It'd be a separate series not part of the daily rotation. They wouldn't need to do much but get together occasionally and show stuff off. As long as it's not stupid like when they get on servers and boss people around. Just the Grumps casually showing off like when Jon showed off his MineCraft world.

If you thought the only problem was paying attention, you weren't paying attention or have never played Mario 64. It's not an easy game.

You're obviously not paying attention to Game Grumps playing long ass games and constantly failing due to them getting basic movements wrong because they skip all tutorials and never pay attention to anything characters say. Arins' lack of attention is actually quite famous. Search Reddit and then come back to this thread dude.

It took Arin 36 episodes of Sonic Boom to learn Amy could triple jump and only because Dany told him... and he had triple jumped before but never noticed... somehow.

And yes, Mario 64 is an easy game. Very, VERY easy. Mario is pretty much a Ninja, and no map has a chance against you after you learn the basic moves. Except Rainbow Ride, I am so wet from anticipation for them to get there.

ProJared is the most regular Guest they've had on he channel for a while.

It might as well be official that he's a grump now.
Yeah, he's like the only actual guess they've had since GrumpCade started.

Time to give Jon a call and set up some time for the next MAGFest or PAX or whatever shows they like to go to.

Or some other guest. Someone. Have fun with it! Suzy and Barry do not count as guests.

How about the Finishist? Call him up. Or the guys from Continue?. You're all friends. (Though you all live in different parts of the country so it obviously has to happen during meet ups.)

Loved watching "game design should show, not tell" Arin enter the Boo level and dick around the premises for like half the episode before going into the mansion that's placed in the center of the stage directly before the player. In this case the game both shows and tells because there's a dialogue box that pops up and says "Come inside".

I have to wonder sometimes if he's playing a character.

Yeah it's pretty odd. When I heard guest grumps was coming back I didn't think it would just be Jared with a decent amount of episodes. I don't mind but still kind of want to see someone else.
Why did they kill off bloodborne for shitty games? :/
I agree with the others and absolutely love the shitty games. If anything they do a good balance I think.

I can't believe Arin never thinks to butt stomp the ghosts. That's the only way I ever do it. Face away from them so they sneak up on you, jump backwards into the air and stomp them to second death.

God, Arin is such a whiny bitch and is so bad at arguments.

In the grand scheme of the world, your play at super Mario 64 is irrelevant? You don't say? Mindblown.gif

Let me guess, he uses this same criteria with every complaint he ever has right? Bitching about your own hands is one of the shittiest, most pathetic things you can do. Really thinking about stopping watching their shows completely. It's getting really old and he dots it more and more now.

Meh it's kind of true though. People get really worked up over stuff like this and it's just a dumb comedy show on YouTube.

It's only annoying when he spits out a sequelitis video or something where he complains about the game's design when it's clear he's just bad at the game. For example we have episode after episode of him sucking at Wind Waker that makes his complaints about 3D Zelda seem whiny.

So? It's essentially saying first world problems lulz. Don't produce content if you're that unable to handle criticism. They made a big deal they don't respond to hate mail but then take over half an episode about people who are the only reason they are even making money. Don't bite that hand that feeds. Whether it's deserved or not, bitching about your fans constantly is a scumbag move.

I have never wanted to reach into the screen and strangle the Grumps more than I have before watching Pokemon Snap.

Why? (also, technically neither of them are the actual Grumps, but now were getting technical)

Also that Wall Street Kid episode gave me sick pleasure to watch, as i got that game as a young child and watching them have to suffer it made me happy.

Often my biggest problem watching him play. I've learned to just accept it.
Hahaha. Good one. Though it was nice to see him get 2 stars today. He just has the one on the roof to get now I think. Hopefully he'll have practiced by tomorrows episode and will start the episode just going right to it instead of spending the whole episode constantly falling off the roof.

I'm ready to leave the ghost house now please.

I am glad he's supposedly going after all 120 stars. That's more than we can ever ask of them. He could easily go right to Bozer right now and finish the series if he wanted to.

I'm also glad they seemingly recorded so much of it at once so there wasn't a hiatus while they went to Japan. But I really miss DKC3 and whatever the other series they were playing at the time was before they switched to random games... Bloodborne. That's what it was. Wait, I don't miss that one as much. But bring back DKC3!

I work for a pretty sizable YouTube network and can confirm that this person doesn't know hat he's talking about.

Content ID matches sound against sound, with variations of compression. Two dudes singing would never be caught by Content ID.

If a song owner complained (which I'd argue has never happened in the history of YouTube), then maybe there could be some sort of action, but it wouldn't be claimed.

It's also permanent, not 30 days. The video (or audio) becomes the property of the copyright holder.
