Gameinformer + Ubisoft + Nintendo Rev = Red Steel

I wouldn't be at all surprised if that blog was planted by Game Informer so that they could have the first scans up. If they get the scans up at low res, everybody would know about that site and the link would get passed around, so by the time somebody else posted higher-res images (which would negate the need for people to go and buy the magazine) most people wouldn't end up finding them.

Darn, I can only find two screenshots of this game!!!!!

I really wanna see the other/s, and Im from AUS, so I cant just got out and purchase the mag!

yeah I guess we'll see. dreamcast had a mouse though didn't it
The revmote is such a superset of those. Whereas a mouse or analog stick give analog movement in 2 dimensions, with the revmote you can have analog movement in 3 dimensions plus the tilt of the revmote. It's like two mice or analog sticks of possible actions in one hand.

If your "eyes" are tied into where the revmote points (as appears to be the case), the mechanic is identical.
Not really. Varying amounts of force could be applied in a much better way than holding a button varying amounts of time. Height from which you toss a grenade and the vertical angle at which it proceeds could differ.

Don't know if this was posted, but this is from the guy who scanned the pics:

holy crap, my blog has gotten 10,000 hits since i posted those scans. anyways, i just finished reading the actual article in game informer, and it says that the sword and guns can be twisted in your hand, by twisting the rev's remote. so you can shoot gangster style and block with the sword. also, there is split screen and online multiplayer planned, just no details yet. you can also jump over and take cover behind objects by moving the rev's remote towards a upturned table or a wall, and reload by pulling the remote back. by the way, they are ingame screenshots. this game is looking fucking hot as hell.

Actually there are three kinds of tilt; pitch, yaw and roll. You'd need three sticks to give you that level of control.

So the first third of the game is supposedly brutal, cool.

What's the "freeze shot?"

EDIT: My post is in reference to reading (what can be read) of the out-of-focus article images.

Well this entire thread was certainly fun. Pics look better than what I, and assuredly everyone, was expecting.

E3 is going to be fun.. I'm guessing the Nintendo queues are going to be insanely long once again (much like it was when GC playable hit E3 - probably moreso this time).

Expectations are low for the Revolution and there is simply not enough known about it for people to speculate on. It gives Nintendo some natural advantages in that area, at least for E3 when they start revealing games.

I saw the digicam captures linked here earlier, and it looks good. A bit better than expected and somewhat like a 1st generaiton next-gen title in terms of the visual tonality and clutter. But we really need to see this in motion to judge it.

From the GI site.

Thanks. Hopefully at the very least we'll get some better screens through IGN or someone .

Here's hoping to some more leaked stuff from other games, I'm getting greedy now.

from transcript of text pictures

I mnay situtations, there wil be a higher-ranking enemy who commands the others in the area. By defeating him and sparing his life, he will offer you his respect and help. The enemies he commands will surrender their guns and the boss may offer you a new weapon, a special path through the level, or other reward. Any time you spare an enemy, you will be rewarded. as it always takes more skill to spare a life than to take it.

This is the first part of this news to really interest me. It's about time devs try to make that M rating on the box a lot less mindless.

Wow, very impressed with these shots and the concepts / ideas for the game.

I really think Revolution is going to take us all by a major surprise come May. This is going to be big. :)

Maybe I'm missing something, but how would split screen revmotes work? Would you have to have another set of sensors set up, or am I missing something obvious?

No and yes.

The revolution will be able to differentiate between the controllers.. it can keep track of 4 revmotes at a time.

"I can tell you it's a great great product, and that's exactly what I meant by never underestimate Nintendo. You know, this is a Revolution. It's what they, you know, it's not the hardware of the machine, it's not the speed of the machine, it's the fact that that device will enable games to be made unlike no other have ever been.

It's so exciting to actually, for the first time, feel that you can move something in a 3D space. I mean, you gotta remember that the controllers that we're currently using on the other consoles, really have their origin in platform games. They have no sympathy for moving around in a you know, a 3D world, and that's what makes Revolution so exciting. I would love to be doing something for it."

Funny how things can change so suddenly.

Don't you have to be within a certain central area within the sensors for it to work properly, or does that not matter at all? I was thinking about 4 people trying to get around one TV.

Once the magazine comes out - I will elaborate more. I wish I could talk right now but I'm in a bit of a "silent mode" - you know? You guys weren't supposed to see this magazine until next week!

I want to tell you all my thoughts on the power of the system, what I thought of the controls, etc.

And I will...at the approriate time. (ie. Next Week)

For now, I will say - NINTENDOMEGATON!

but we don't need to get into that again :)

if he wants to sell himself short, so be it. that's his call.

Did you catch the part where he said Fable was dumbed down because the Xbox hardware was inadequate? The next revolution in game design may not be in more powerful systems, but I'm sure that some truly creative people would like them all the same.

That sounds like it's just lip service anyway.

you think he'll give us some solid details? he's just a pr dude... no way he'll post anything negative about nintendo on a public board. oh what the hell i'll be counting the days until he reveals what he knows. :lol

The real question in the ps3 - 360 vs revolution debate has always been centered on graphics.. The basic assumption was that the rev would be cheaper, but in terms of graphics, the other two systems would be far superior and it would make up for the difference in price..

well we finally have some indication. i'm not a tech expert, but in my eyes, this is good enough to compete graphicly with the 360 games... It's only a few screenshots so i may be taking this too far, but if this is any indication of an average looking rev launch game and it looks as good in motion as it does in these screens, the comparison between rev and 360 is gonna look bad for microsoft from a value standpoint (assuming the rev is 200 or less). If nintendo can overcome the stigma they have developed over the years (kiddie and all that) they may really be able to compete straight up with the 360.

The ps3 games (like the ratchet and clank demo) look far enough beyond this that it will be a whole different ballpark, and there are 360 games out there that blow this away, but there is also a lot of shovelware on microsofts system and a lot of current gen ports, plus they've got all the problems with systems breaking down, and hardware shortages. They need to get some very good looking stuff out there by christmas this year. Ps3 should be alright, but just looking at this compared to the first screenshots of PD0... microsoft should be worried.

I'll probably still buy a 360 anyway... oblivion, too human and the next ninja gaiden make it hard for me to resist, but just being purley objective, as a gamer with limited funds. I don't have a 360 yet, because i can't afford one, but if rev is 200 bucks at launch, i'll have one immediatley, and if the graphics look that good, i won't feel so bad about waiting a while to buy a 360.

will microsoft have to drasticly lower their price to compete?

edit// and everybody, keep in mind, this is GAF, and we all know gaf is the pickiest board on the net when it comes to graphics and stuff like that... Most other boards seem to be salivating over this, and this reaction at GAF is surprisingly positive... very few naysayers.

I don't forsee this being a problem.. they said it can be used with any tv, which would include even huge 100" projection tvs.. and the sensor bar obviously isn't that wide... so I don't think it is a problem :)

There are already games on the Xbox 360 (not announced, released) that look much better than those scans. The "Looks good enough." value perception doesn't exist, as far as I can tell. Not to mention the massive gulf in multiplatform support already forming between these consoles.

Wow. This looks way better than what I was expecting. Way to go, Nintendo. You got an exclusive game from Ubi and even made them think differently in the design process. I can't wait till next week.
