lol, brilliant.

Now this is a quality 'shop. Great work!

thanks

There's no comedy in that.

so true...

scrolled thru the posts searching thru this thread... with no luck finding the original, I found comedic gold instead

slight edit

propably doesnt need explaining (but for the highly sensitive), the E is also a 3 for 3rd parties. Obviously 1st party titles are exclusives and obviously there will be more 3rd party support ;)

They probably considered it borderline child porn. I remember DOA Dimensions was banned in Sweden for some bullshit reasoning like that.

DOA was never banned, the publisher decided to take pre-emptive measures in order to avoid controversy. They could've sold it as is.

Naughty Dog really did do a terrible job with Ellie's face though. She's bizarre looking. Also she looks five years old.

she originally looked like a young Ellen Page, so it's as close to not looking exactly like her (so QD Beyond 2 Souls doesn't trip), but is still kinda her as they could get

She really looked better as Page. It was revealed that Sony indeed requested ND to change her face after Beyond was announced, since they got the real Ellen Page. Too bad, her new face really looks hideous at times and doesn't animate as well.

Wow. I didn't know they had to change her to make her look less like Page. Interesting.

Embarrassing. Swedes are the last people I would expect to pull this kind of crap. But GR has always been in a world of their own. They are often criticized over here.

Did they crop her out or did they just choose a piece of art that didn't have Elli in it? Because there is a major difference between the two.

Do we know if Ellie was even in the artwork that Gamereactor got?

Besides, as has already been mentioned, the cover were chosen by their readers, and they had an alternative one with Ellie present:

No way in hell it didn't.

Our cover, for reference.

Original is less cramped, of course. But even with space constraint we have on our cover, there's zero chance we would have taken out Ellie. I envy the "clean" cover they have, actually. Ours ends up vilifying the art often.

The Ratchet & Clank A4O cover taken as an example is a different matter, though. I understand the choice.

Finally I see Ellie with those clothes as artwork. Didn't expected, but sure I wanted at least one. She looks splendid in here. Doesn't make any sense, why they should erase her and put Joel in the middle if the cover was send over with layers outlined similar to toolkits, then why they did this ? And they also mention only Joel.

Man, they had enough space to put Ellie too even by moving the layers in places. I really don't care about their reasons, but this is like being a
jerk
to of the best games of the last gen.

Good work Neil, for asking them.

No one shall be brought before our LORD David Bowie without the true and secret knowledge of the Photoshop. For in that time, so shall He appear.
Does he mean they photoshopped her out of that picture, or they just didn't use the picture they sent?

Well there you go.

I'm guessing it was a question of composition then? I don't buy there's some agenda here since they had an alternative cover with Ellie front and center.

Composition problems on a completely clear cover? I wish we had those :D

EDIT:

that's the original. don't mean to be the backseat graphic here, but to me it's pretty clear that it was NOT a graphic choice. Image is perfectly balanced for a squared, clear cover. Less apt for a vertical, narrow one like ours. I can understand the need for a single, central point of focus in the cover, but editing out Ellie seems overkill for such a problem to me.

Just deselected the corresponding layer.

Game Reactor has proven time and time again that it's a horrible magazine that encompasses everything wrong with the industry, media and gaming culture. Anyone working there should feel bad.

Oh, they just didn't want a magazine cover where a child is holding a gun.

I meant composition within the image itself (deleting Ellie changes the composition), not layout. Still, it's very weird that they would do this.

I think a magazine should have the right to decide their own cover image especially as naughty dog seem to have given the same image to all magazines

Crikey, that's a nice cover. Visually striking and the focus is drawn neatly to Joel, then to the bloody pipe, and finally to the game's title and the bludgeoned guy on the ground. Truly a great piece of artwork. I'm not surprised they chose to drop Ellie from the cover. Her in that purple wind breaker distracts from the central image in a big way.

A fair point, but shouldn't representing the game come first?

Oh might grab it after work for the poster

Gaf delivers as usual btw, i'm in tears

From what I've played (i.e. all of it) I'd say that image sums up The Last of Us in a nut shell. Not even going to get into the narrative or thematic reasons for that in an unrelated thread, but just from a gameplay perspective it represents the game quite well.

And by golly that is a nicely composed image.
