Games you can play while doing something else

I've always wondered what are the best games to play while doing something else. I can usually play DRPGs while watching TV shows or anime, which is great for multitasking and enjoying your free time when you have so little.

Am I the only one that thinks it's possible to really take advantage of multitasking while playing games?

Most MMOs

Pretty much anything that isn't too competitive and not story-based.

Though I really can't multitask while watching anime. Reading subtitles takes all my attention.

I do this for almost any game I'm doing replays of. Right now I'm going for the remake platinum and since that game is just route optimization I know exactly what I need to do at all times so I can zone out a bit and watch/listen to something while doing it. Also do this while playing any MP game like SFV (unless I'm in ranked)

I recently caught up on Game of Thrones while playing wow for the Hearthstone character. Mainly since that game can run on auto pilot.

First Shenmue. You can't speed up the in-game clock, so I found it fun to other games while waiting.

Stuff like No Man's Sky or Minecraft are great podcast/tv/etc games. I sometimes try this with multiplayer shooters as well, but I find myself tuning out the other thing as soon as stuff gets competitive.

In between matches of Halo I would typically lurk in Halo threads. When playing Pokemon or Fire Emblem, I always watching a video or looking up information I need.

That's not a selling point to me. Suggests that the game is boring or to simple.

just different speeds. I don't want to play pulse pounding or intense games requiring my full attention 100% of the time. Sometimes you just want something simple and mindless to play as a relaxing distraction.

Dwarf Fortress is a good podcast-listening game since you can queue up tasks and watch the dwarves do their thing. It's a pretty relaxing game until you accidently release the clowns.

Exploring the world and doing basic quests in Xenoblade Chronicles X.

The game has an auto run option with a quick button combination so you don't have to push in the stick or press anything to continue to run in a direction.

Echoing Pokemon. I'm walking around grinding for Pokedex entries in Pokemon Yellow while I browse GAF and fish in Black Desert Online.

Anything turn based on a portable system I usually play while doing something else. Particularly when I need a short break.

I usually play Diablo 3 after work because of this reason. Just farm legendaries and materials while making my character stronger, and watch Netflix/Hulu/Amazon Video on my other monitor. Not much heavy focus needed while enjoying myself at the same time

I play Civilization V at my work. Great game for it because it's turn based and easy to put down for the 5 minutes I get a call an hour.

It's especially good if you focus on a Civ that benefits a one-city empire, like Venice or India (or Egypt before the culture changes in the expansion) and turn on auto-end turn. I played it while sending out resumes while I was job-hunting.

I play Monster Hunter on 3DS while listening to/slightly watching trash crime dramas like Criminal Minds or Bones.
