Games you should like but couldnt get into, without knowing why

Chrono Trigger. I love time travel themes, but I just couldn't get into this game for some reason.

I love its "sequel", though.

1v1 fighting games. All of them.

Have never been able to hold my attention for more than 2.7 seconds. I'll appease a friend now and then with a match, but I've never been able to enjoy em.

EDIT: And as I get older, sports games have been getting less and less able to hold my attention. In previous console generations, I would buy the yearly release of just about every sports game, and play multi-year franchises. I'm still a HUGE sports fan, but their virtual representations have dried out on me. That said, I did pick up MLB 13: The Show this week, and RTTS mode is hooking me. But I doubt I'll ever fire up another game mode.

Now that I think about it, I find sandbox style games very boring: GTA, AC, RDR, Oblivion, Skyrim.

Not my cup of tea.

Mass effect. I got bored of it early in trying to find that dude to bring down Saren. Youtubed it and found him then got bored trying to get to the next objective. I bought the trilogy pack too so oh well.

Hitman Absolution. I love stealth games but I just find this a chore to play for some reason.

Turn based strategy, I can play everything in the universe of gaming and enjoy myself.

But turn based? I'm bored beyond anything.

3D Legend of Zelda games. Even Wind Waker, which makes me sad because it's so darn beautiful but I just had no motivation to actually play it. Would love to watch someone else play it probably haha.

Yakuza. Played about an hour or so of both the first and third. Also have Dead souls in my backlog. Really need to try again but I rarely feel like I have the time for these.

Most RPGs in general I guess. I did enjoy watching my GF play through Earthbound and the Phantasy Stars though.

Try simpler, funnier RPG games like Super Mario RPG. Trus me on this one.

The Witcher series. I really want to like these games and they sound like they should be right up my street but for whatever reason, I just couldn't get into either of them :-/

I have a few games.

Tera, Aion, Uncharted 3 and Just Cause 2.

I do like Uncharted 3 and I think I would like Tera but just cant play more than 40min at a time then taking long pauses until I play them again.

Portal 2. Really enjoyed the first one. Tried playing the sequel twice now and can't get past the first half hour without losing interest. Really strange seeing as how I've played through and enjoyed quite a few games in the last few months.

For me it's Soul Reaver- I've had it for a while, started it multiple times and can't get more than 1/3 of the way through... Just doesn't click for me

I love shooters but I can not stand CoD. It's the point-and-click style of game play that kills me. I play Halo for the large maps, vehicular carnage and all around explosive awesomeness. Most of the time I don't even care if I die in a Halo multi-player match, as long as there is some epic craziness going on. With CoD, who ever gets seen first will be killed first 9 times out of 10 and to me that just doesn't equal fun.

To me, fun is spawning at my base, frantically running to the first mongoose/warthog I find, taking off with an ally on the the back (or without if no one wants to hop on), speeding towards the enemy base with my gunner picking off enemies along the way, splattering into a couple of bad guys before sliding into the their stronghold, jumping off the goose, going in guns-a-blazing, tossing grenades and getting as many kills as I can before I go out in an epic fiery explosion.

CoD is just *pewpewdiespawnpewpewdiespawn*

Ugh, so repetitive... if it wasn't for zombies I'd have never played CoD for more then a grand total of 30 minutes.

FIND: "Halo"
REPLACE: "Battlefield"
Bingo.

Bingo.

I really need to get into that franchise. I absolutely love love loved '1942'. I've heard Bad Company is amazing. Thanks for reminding me to add something to my already overwhelming back log...

But I still love Halo. :P

I had a similar issue with Dishonored as the guys on the first page. Don't think I got past the bridge level? I think I had my fill with it at that point...
Loved Deus Ex Human Revolution as a recent example of a similar game mechanically. I'd say I'm a pretty big fan of stealth games genre wise, I consider Splinter Cell Chaos Theory to be one of my favourite games of all time and I'm a huge fan of Metal Gear.

Also Mass Effect. Tried twice to get into 2, played about 10 hours each time and just got so bored.

Dragons Dogma

fantastic game with a brilliant combat system, that I can't make myself play anymore. half way through its done and about to trade it in.

The nonsense of there's no fast travel because you feel immersed in the world like you're really traveling is one of the most idiotic moronic assbackwards pile of shit I have ever seen in a video game. IT IS NOT FUN TO RUN FOR 20+ MINS WITH A DEPLETING STAMINA BAR DURING SPRINTS on your abandoned ass world with nothing interesting going on after completing a 2 hour quest WHERE IT TOOK ME 1 HOUR TO RUN THERE in the first place.

hand in the quest.............go back to that exact same place for the second part of the quest

eject disc, got better things to do with my life

Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion

I was the one who introduced my wife to it, and she fucking loves the series now, but I found Oblivion so damned boring. I just wasn't engaged in anything the game had to offer.

Oddly enough, I frigging love Skyrim, but Oblivion was just so "meh" to me. I also prefer Fallout: New Vegas to Fallout 3, for pretty much the same reasons.

EDIT: I agree with David Jaffe that Djmon Honsou would have made a fantastic Kratos in a God of War movie. That gif reminds me, why.

The World Ends With You. I figured there'd be too much shit going on with both screens, but I'm not sure that was it. Just didn't click for me.

Also, Skyrim. Boring gameplay and an endless amount of white/grey/brown environments. Characters are ugly and the story didn't really grab me either.

Edit: Wait, shit. I just went against the point of this thread and described why I didn't enjoy it.

Mark of the Ninja.

I couldn't get into after playing it immediately following Dishonored.

I think I did the exact opposite order (or exact same order) and was really impressed with both.

I would say Skyward Sword, but I know exactly why: fuck motion controls.

Recently, Pokemon Black 2. I'm afraid I might finally be getting tired of the Pokemon formula and am relieved/frightened with X/Y. Relieve because it's finally changing a bit, frightened because it might not be enough.

Red Dead Redemption is completely and utterly failing to hook me in any way, but the only reason I feel like I should like it is because almost everyone else does.

Deus Ex: Human Revolution was a game I finished without ever truly liking, and I really don't know why.

For me, Monster Hunter was my white whale. Everything I should like in a game, but it never clicked for me until very recently. I own every US Monster Hunter game, and yet it was the demo for 3U which made it all come together. I'm now playing Freedom Unite, and I think this may be my new favorite game. I always thought it would be.

Anything Shin Megami Tensei. Be it Persona, Devil Summoner, Devil Survivor, Strange Journey, or whatever, I just can not get into these games despite very much wanting to - the one shining exception is the Digital Devil Saga games, which I thought were amazing.

But turn based? I'm bored beyond anything.
Which TBS games have you played? I want to say you are just playing the wrong ones, or playing the right ones the wrong way. I just can't imagine anyone describing a (halfway decent) turn based strategy game as "boring".

Elder Scrolls and Fallout games. I really don't know why but i just can't play them past the first few hours. Funny enough i keep buying them.

I love Monster Hunter and I played a fuck ton of Tri on the Wii

that said, I feel no necessity to play the games further until they give me a better multiplayer experience. I have the PSP games but they seem kinda pointless now to play on my own. Series is meant to be played with people and I barely could.

Bioshock series, Fallout series, and Assassin's Creed series. Should've been incredible but just so hard to stay interested.

Especially AC3 as I'm a bit of a U.S. History buff. REALLY wanted to love it but still less than 10 hours in with little impulse to dive back in.

Most Survival Horror games or stealth style games like Metal gear, i really think the mechanics of some of these games put me off, I have tried time and time to get into survival horrors and not many click with me.

metal gear is a franchise i want to get into, so going to play the 3ds version and then see about getting the hd collection (yeah i know GAF will tell me to get the HD collection first, but i picked up the 3ds version for dirt cheap)

Lords of Shadow

i was into it when i played the demo, and everything about it seems awesome. i got REALLY bored around the point in time that you're in that swampy area not too long after the beginning. i just.... completely lost interest. there weren't any other games that were taking my attention away either. i think at one point i died in the water because of a swamp monster for failing a QTE maybe... i dunno. just turned it off and messed around with some PSN games at that point. :\

Okami, though I played the inferior Wii version so that might partly explain it. I got bored and I didn't like the combat.

AC3...I played and enjoyed all previous AC series but still trying to finish that game. It is not really a bad game, but just could not get into it as much as previous ones.

God of War 3.

I really enjoyed the first two, but after playing an hour of playing it I just couldn't find the motivation to go back.

inFamous 2. I liked the first one, but couldn't get into the second one, I'm not sure why, I think it was because of the location

Vanquish. A lot of people on here praise it, but something just didn't click with me.

I think part of the reason might be the way the levels are set up. I'm not a fan of the whole time trial, try to get the best score for each level approach.

I enjoyed the setting of the first one much more. The flooded area with water everywhere was especially annoying.

Elder Scrolls games. I own them on steam. I've tried to get into them numerous times, and still do not find them fun. I wish I could, everyone seems really into them.

I can't get into them either. I haven't tried Skyrim, but I absolutely hated the feel of the combat in Oblivion.

Valkyria Chronicles.

I love Japanese games. I love RPG games. I love strategy games like Fire Emblem or Final Fantasy Tactics.

By all accounts I should love this game to death; and indeed I played it to what I think is second to last level, but at that point I just lost all interest. I don't know why.

The Legend of Heroes: Trails in the Sky.

I have no idea why. I love jRPGs and this has everything I like in an RPG, so it's baffling I couldn't get into it.
I will give it another try though, it may have just been my mood at the time.
