I also think the community is part of the problem. We've got lots of Karen's reporting posts they don't like and then it's up to the mods to agree with them or not.

As for the report feature, I only reported a person once a couple of months ago, got that response and from then on considered it a completely useless feature and haven't touched it since. I know the report feature is supposed to be a help for Mods to be able to pin point issues, but I think with a larger Mod team, the feature wouldn't be used as it is now where I think it is primarily used for reporting troll like behavior. By implementing flairs or a it would eliminate a lot of these reports.

Those posts are a bit juvenile sure but so what ? So in order to criticize something you have to write A4 page in suit in formal language to be taken seriously ? And people are so fragile that they need to be protected and sheltered from other people opinions , what they have to lose ? Few brain cells at best ? And if by chance you don't like PR statement which that thread was all about because Spencer made obvious shitty PR statement and made fun of it you have to be warned/banned/removed from thread for making fun of it and people who defend that statement ?

What is the alternative ? Few post will go and people will move along. IT is not like Gaf these days needs less interaction considering most of threads end up on page 2 or 3. Go look at legendary Killzone2 thread. That is what people consider golden age of Neogaf. 100+ pages of pure gold.

Literally half of that epic killzone thread would be banned by today standards. People weren't atracted to Neogaf because it had amazing mod team but because it had vibrant community and you could have both serious and non serious talk at the same time. The reason why it worked was that most of people had to use work email which meant that most of people were adults and could reasonably put their thoughts if they wanted.

You can't have "Did you know bayblades are made of metal" epic thread without few wackos in community or total fanboys that give you alternate view into someone weird minds. Thelastsword is total Sony fanboy or obvious troll but i like weirdos like him it is always hilarious to read how he will explain something.

When outrage brigade moved on to Reee most of us thought we will go back to glorious era of Neogaf. The only lesson learned from previous stint seems to be that new rules were right but it was staffed by wrong kind of people.

Gaf has two ways to go. Either go toward 2007 model everyone loved or toward 2015 model everyone hated.

There are no rules against levity, post length, light hearted jokes or ribbing. Hype gifs (which are a celebration of shared enthusiasm) are not the same as one line posts designed and fashioned to create arguments and division. Can you please elaborate on which hype gifs, or which gifs in general have ben moderated recently to support your point? Can you also please describe how these hype gifs/fun gifs are the same as disruptive console war posts?


If you want that hostile and childish 'war' environment, go to twitter. Posts like that are moderated because the community enjoyment of the forum is more important than your vanity and ego to 'points score' or engage in oneupmanship. As long as you are polite and not trolling there are no issues.

Reason why people hated "new" gaf that imploded was because mods put their fingers into every discussion, policing how people talk with each other and what is and what not is kosher and worse what opinions were kosher. Literally half of that epic killzone thread would be banned by today standards. People weren't atracted to Neogaf because it had amazing mod team but because it had vibrant community and you could have both serious and non serious talk at the same time. When outrage brigade moved on to Reee most of us thought we will go back to glorious era of Neogaf. The only lesson learned from previous stint seems to be that new rules were right but it was staffed by wrong kind of people.

Anyone with decent experience with hardware knows that orienting power around system wattage for consumer product like console doesn't make sense and it was pure PR speak. I spend some time to write that obvious troll on that dumb statement to show how ridiculous whole thing is by creating ridicolous statements by using litearlly what PR statement said. Unfortunately your mentioned "lack of rules" actually exist.

Oh here is another showing how ridiculous Phil Spencer quote was about lack of NEXT GEN games for their system in first year in context of thread which was exactly stating that making next games is wrong and people should not be "divided". I can't even quote it to you because it was deemed to inflammatory and was removed to keep thread that has right now WHOLE 7 pages. Evilore in mentioned thread you linked even added his dumb statement where he said was wrong because Phil didn't say it. Which means he doesn't even understand what this post is about.
