Is there anyone that can put together a cool Gears 3 avatar for me? I'd like to celebrate my promotion to regular Gaf member by finally loading up an avatar. I have zero talent when it comes to things like making an actually good avatar. I'd really appreciate it. Thanks

Earlier this month, Ice-T let it slip via a Ustream session that he was playing a role in Epic Games' third installment of the hugely popular Gears of War trilogy. Last night in Los Angeles at a party during E3, Cliff Bleszinki and crew was on hand along with Ice-T and his wife Coco to formerly announce that the rapper turned actor would indeed be dawning his voice to a character named Griffin.

Cliff then went on to mention on his own Twitter page that, “Ice won’t stop telling everyone about his role in Griffin in Gears 3.”

Although Ice-T hasn’t been able to keep his notorious mouth shut about his involvement in the game, not much has been said regarding the character he’s lending his voice to. You can bet that whatever Griffin’s story is, he’ll play a major role in Gears of War 3 since Epic put the effort into recruiting the likes of Ice-T to portray him. It’s probably a safe bet he’ll turn out to be a rough and tough individual with plenty of swagger and an itchy trigger finger with his sights set on laying waste to a few Locust.

Do you think Ice-T will embark on a successful run as a voice actor in Epic’s Gears of War 3? Be sure to chime in and share your thoughts on the developer’s decision to introduce one of the game’s new characters through the recognized voice of Ice-T

In beast mode can can the cogs be player controlled? Or are they always AI? It would be nice to have two both sides be player controlled similarly to what L4D does with some of its modes.

Gears of War 2's horrible, horrible multiplayer's fault. I'm kind of on the fence for that exact reason, but a few of my hardcore gamer buds who would be in the market for this game have vowed to not buy it because of how awful GoW2 was. Anecdotal evidence, but there you go.

Pretty much. If there isn't much to complain about, then there is no point in talking about it.

Either that or most Gears fans are busy playing Gears of War 2 now that's it's 6x XP this week.

Tried, but excessive two piecing and other shenanigans pissed me off. Still playing Gears 1.

The multiplayer is pretty much fine now, but I can see how you felt burned.

PXG: how could you play Gears 1? I tried the other day, its horrendous.

It's funny, I was playing Gears 2 about 3 weeks ago and I said to my friend who was playing Horder with me:

"You know what Gears 3 needs? Weapon swapping with your team".

3 weeks later and I'm fucking rapt it's in. Was sorely needed in this style of game.

Back to Gears 3 now beast mode looks really interesting, the game visually looks stunning as expected but it was kinda disappointing that we didn't get to see the new shotgun in action at the E3 live demo which hopefully doesn't feel like Gears 2's nerfgun...also I hope that they'll change the sounds of the weapons to make them feel actually strong and powerful again.

About the lack of excitement now here on gaf for the game it's absolutely normal (and a good sign) if you ask me after the Gears 2 fiasco - a lot of people including me were expecting Gears on steroids and instead we got Gears: casual-friendly lag and glitch edition...it's not that difficult for Epic to make a great sequel this time, they just have to go back to the first game and see what made the gameplay and the gunplay/encounters awesome, addicting and intense - Gears isn't Bioshock or Half Life 2 were a lot of things take role into the overall experience Gears 1 was the over the top gore (which was also nerfed in the sequel), the fuckin' powerful shotgun, the quick cover to cover mechanics and of course the close quarter combats with the Locust...it's not science Epic it's pretty simple, is it that difficult for you who created that first damn game to recreate that? I'm not sure you can but I certainly hope so because I'm a big a fan of the first game.

As a non-versus player, I can easily say that Gears 2 was better than the first one in every way. The single player campaign was more varied in both combat scenarios and locations (with improved controls and mechanics), while Horde mode is currently one my most played multiplayer games ever.

Bring on Gears 3. I literally can't wait.

You should try out Gears 2 now that TU6 came out. The best update to happen to the entire Gears franchise, hands down.

Gears of War 3 was my E3. Everything else sorta just didn't matter to me. I was late to play gear of war. But I played gears of war 2 non stop through the bad and the good. I can't wait for Gears of War 3. Beast looks awesome. Horde was always fun. So This is just icing on the cake. 4 player coop which was already known is awesome as always.

Either

1) You play with people with shitty connections
2) You have a shitty connection
3) Play with people who only do lame ass shotty/ sniper battles
4) You suck at the game

Gears 1 is great. Fast paced, arcadey and requires (more) skill than the sequel. Gears 2 is solid now, but there is still some bullshit that is just intolerable in that game.

I'm getting slightly hyped for Gears 3. I like what I see so far. I just hope the MP is more balanced this time around. TU6 pretty much made the netcode perfect in Gears 2. If they can just fix the shotty's hip fire (pretty much have to hard aim every shot to kill anyone now) and just tweak stopping power (I wish they just take it out, but Cliff said it's staying :/), and nerf (read: remove) wall tagging and the mortar, then it would be damn near perfect.

I'm not down on Gears 3, but I'm not jizzing my pants just yet either.

I'd pop it in to see what I've been missing but I'd probably need to buy like 15 map packs...:lol

Edit : Half to admit that some of those new locust and weapons do look cool though.

Good ‘ol CliffyB was available to give us a personal demonstration of the stage demo of Gears of War 3. The first thing to know about CliffyB is that he thinks he’s hilarious. In fact, he often is, but like any self-styled comedian, he’ll throw out jokes at any random point during a given conversation. Our favorite line of the day came as I asked a seemingly innocuous query:

“So, at any point in the title, will you be teaming up with the Locust to take out a mutated Lambent?”

“No, man, that would be gay.”

Well said?

He stated that they’re very hesitant this time around vehicular combat, saying they’ve received generally negative feedback on those sections in the past. Some new executions abound, as well as what he called a “bag tag”, affixing a grenade to an enemy and them pushing him into enemy lines, taking out several in the process.

The latest version of the Unreal 3 Engine is in play, boasting some new shadow/lighting effects (most notable in the Hammer of Dawn sequence). As usual, Gears of War 3 seeks to expand to ratcheting up the visuals and viscerals. Bring it on, Cliffy.

Those were all horrible in both gears 1 and 2. Yes even the brumak sucked because it was like having god mode on which is boring. Hopefully this means no vehicle sections are in gears 3.

The vehicle sections in Gears just weren't well done.

They should take a look at Halo and COD and try to do something along those lines, unfortunately they do them really shitty and slow and not exciting at all.

Gears 1 MP >>>>> Gears 2 MP.

I have no doubts that Gears 3 Campaign will be better than both of the previous games' campaigns. It will be incredible. But the MP is what keeps you around. I logged shit loads of hours into Gears 1, it was unbelievable. And to have Gears 2 shit on that was depressing. The nerfed ass fucking shotgun, the fucked up two-piecing, the shooting out of a roll (or lack there of), the SHITTY sniper, grenade tagging, and the chainsaw sensitivity being lowered like 20 fold...yeah, fuck Gears 2 ;_;

i haven't tried AU6, but it does appear to have fixed everything. Still, I prefer the maps of GOW1, theres just something about them which I feel GOW2 misses completely.

Gears, for me, is just one of those games Im just going to buy. I know Im going to get it, my friends and I are going to play the hell out of it and have fun but at the same time its hard to get excited about. I wasnt home to watch the conference but when I asked a friend of mine how Gears looked he said:

"...it looks like Gears."

Its hard to get excited for something you already played twice before. Even the intro to the demo at E3 sounded exactly the same: "The Gears are on their way somewhere and they get ambushed". They didnt really change much (it would seem). And Id argue that they dont really have to.

Yeah, I feel the same way as .GqueB.. I don't need to speculate or examine every detail available for the game, I just want to play it. So aside from glancing at the occasional screen shot or watching the occasional footage, I'm just gonna sit down and shut up until it's ready for me to play.

Halo vehicles missions are totally different than COD. One is good and one isn't.

Half of the gears 1 maps were slightly tighter due to 4 on 4, especially Raven Down, one of the best maps in gears 1.

On the dedicated servers it seems pretty amazing to me after what 7-8 years or so of Live and all the Halo games in between this will be the first-first party title for MS to do dedicated servers.
