Gothic 1 Remake goes woke

Quick question unrelated to the topic, does anyone here know if the originals had controller support like this new one is going to have?
Nah, it didn't had it (unless you count some community mods). They did those for Switch version a few years ago and were supposed to update PC version to include controller support as part of free update but to my knowledge they didn't yet

It was a joke lol. And nah man I have to disagree, some of the ones KanKamAndNob posted are real beauties.

I mean, I can see how beautiful their body are, but the faces are really bad. Nova and Miranda only look good in cutscenes, and even them, Miranda would be labeled as woke trash because she has square jaw and a giant forehead with derpy eyes.

Agree to disagree man, I think they look fine. Why not post some you think look better? Might just be a matter of tastes.

That's just how the actress looked! No extra woke uglyfication was applied, which was the point of that other user's post.

Supposedly, doesn't require internet - just a 5gb patch when the game is ran for the first time. No internet required after that. (from a dev's mouth)

It's not about having a day one patch, it's about not being playable unless you download the patch.

From the website:
  • The game cannot be played without an online verification and a Day One patch.

Ok, having to download a Day 1 patch is different, that's true. Personally, I wouldn't want to play a game without a Day 1 patch, but I guess some people don't have a choice. No access to internet whatsoever.

I'd be more concerned about an always-online requirement. I don't find a one-time check-in onerous, but I don't want to be required to be online all the time.

Requires internet too apparently. If that's a deal breaker

As much as I want to shit on this game just for the sake of shitting on it, that sounds like nonsense.

It's on GOG: https://www.gog.com/en/game/gothic_1_remake

It will be DRM-free. Or, I guess in the case of consoles, might need a one-time patch, but there's nothing to suggest that it's unplayable offline, like... as an ongoing, "phone home" sorta thing.

As someone else already said, a one-time online check absoluely nullifies the meaning of a physical version. One way or another, you're always bound to an external service, which i don't like.

Ok.

I don't understand why having to download a Day 1 patch "absolutely nullifies the meaning of a physical version," though. You download Day 1 patches on other physical games, don't you? Why is this so different?

We must all be "chuds" for not wanting ugly people, especially women, in our games.

I also thought the graphics were really nice on ps5 pro but the gameplay was pretty shit. This will make it easier not to buy.

Seriously? The difference is one game you can play any time in the future as long as you have the disc and console whereas the other you can't play without the internet. Needing an online "check" if you dont have internet or lets say you do have internet but Sont has closed down the ps5 store.

You're talking about a patch that fixes bugs versus potentially having a $70 paper weight.

Again, it's just a one-time check. Are you imagining that 5 years from now, you won't have access to the internet? Not even the ability to check in once? How does that happen? Collapse of society? Personal bankruptcy, becoming homeless? Moving to some third-world country that doesn't have internet? If so, you've probably got bigger problems than whether you can play Gothic.

I don't see Sony shutting down the PS Store in the foreseeable future. That seems pretty far-fetched.

I think you're worrying over an extremely improbable event, but ok.

What if the Embracer/THQ goes belly up and servers aren't there anymore? It's not just the customer's side that's the issue.

That said if it's on GoG, that version will probably be ok (someone will verify it).

I guess these distant "what if" scenarios don't bother me. If I wanted to play the game, I would buy it and play it. I wouldn't let some hypotheticals about what might happen a decade from now worry me. I suspect that people who are saying they won't buy the game because it requires a one-time check in didn't want to play the game much in the first place. Seems like a small thing to me.

I mean, if you buy the game now, you can play it now and get your money's worth now. Surely that's the main point? If someone has the urge 10 years from now to replay Gothic, but they can't because they have no internet or whatever, then just buy the game again. Big deal. And if by some strange twist of fate, the game has been completely wiped from existence by then, well, then none of us can play it regardless.

I'm not a physical game collector. I'm not a collector of anything, really. I have a hard time understanding that mindset, I suppose. I probably get more joy from throwing things away than piling them up, lol.

Anyhow, if people want to skip Gothic because it requires a one-time check-in, that's fine with me. I don't care whether people buy the game. I doubt I'll buy it myself. Not in the mood for a long, janky WRPG at the moment.

I think we should distinguish games that have day1 patches and are playable from disc and those that are locked. It is an unacceptable practice for preservation purposes and some people will also be offline for whatever reason (including PS or Xbox online services having random issues). Cyberpunk or Stalker 2 were massively bugged when they launched, BUT you can still play them without the first patch.

The original Gothic and Gothic 2, were games I always wanted to like, but i could never get into them. I might give the remake a try, maybe it clicks this time :)
Let's hope it does click for you this time around.

Haven't pre-ordered myself but I'm very excited and looking forward to this release.

Yeah, I won't preorder either, but it should be an easy impulse buy when it's out. Previews indicate that nothing on the technical side is broken (fingers crossed) so I am looking forward to the release.

As a pole i was so hyped for gothic remake since we have huge community for it(u could even call it a cult :P ), but with those "female" characters:

I never played the original and was interested in playing the remake but hearing how they censored/uglfied all the female characters in the remake makes it an instant skip for me

To reddit mods:

I still use reddit but left that subreddit due to that. That whole "We are sick of it and so are others" was such bullshit when this is a game aimed at male gamers. It's funny how they are "sick" of it when lot of straight male gamers are "sick" of all the censoring/toning down of attractive female characters.

Original Gothic games are cult classics here in Poland, all my friends were playing them on PC while I only had PS2 at the time lol. So i missed those games as well.
