Gran Turismo Sport - E3 2017 trailer

Magnificent trailer! Magnificent music...The emphasis on a living world all around you is clearly obvious...Only downer was no weather...Some of the lighting is just off the charts...

Can we not turn this into a Vs thread...

Was I the only one expecting for Mario to jump out of nowhere while watching this trailer? There's such an Odyssey vibe to the music, I swear I almost wanted to see a green turtle shell crashing into a car.

I found myself burned out with racing sims toward the end of the PS2/OG Xbox era and skipped GT and Forza last gen. Between the beta thread here and this trailer, I'm absolutely stoked for this game and looks like GT Sport will pull me back into the genre.

There is no situation where Forza looks better other than weather right now and that's because GT hasn't shown weather. But if this is running at 4K/60 like they say, then honestly this stands head and shoulders above Forza.

Yep, clips of Forza 7 featuring races in clear weather don't even come close to the IQ of GT Sport. I have some doubts though... Will PD be able to create a game that runs perfectly when their previous titles had serious framerate problems? (to be fair, it was probably caused by PS3's shitty architecture)
And will they have enough time to finish working on good weather effects even though they didn't show anything yet? (that's assuming implementing weather is in advanced stages and they're just waiting for Gamescom or Tokyo Show to show how it looks).

Tracks! Let's see, off the top of my head, in order of appearance...

1:26 Dragon Trail - Seaside (new fictional road course, received well in the beta)
1:29 ???, looks like a new fictional track
1:32 Bathurst
1:34 Nurburgring GP (likely part of the 24hr circuit)
1:38 Blue Moon Speedway (new, a 2mi triangular oval)
1:42 Willow Springs - Big Willow
1:45 Tokyo SSR7? It's certainly of the Special Stage template
1:47 Nurburgring Nordschleife
1:49 Brands Hatch (Indy or GP)
1:50 Suzuka(?)
1:52 Tokyo Expressway (new, a narrow street course)
1:54 Willow Springs - Horse Thief Mile
1:59 ???... looks sorta like the old Grand Canyon track
2:08 Northern Isle Raceway (a 1/2mi oval)
2:25 Northern Isle Raceway, drift course
2:29 ??? ...Zolder maybe?
2:34 ???
2:35 Tokyo SSR5?
2:37 ??? ...new track, same as 1:45 and/or part of 2:35
2:44 same as from 1:29

Also announced at some point:
Interlagos
Sardegna Windmills (a rally course)
It would be soul crushing if Le Mans isn't here

Is that all we're going to get from E3? Does anyone know if it's slated to appear on any of the live streams or anything? I can't believe we still don't have a release date or even any concrete information on exactly what the game is after all this time. It's still in this limbo of being a purely online racer but also having some vaguely-described singleplayer component to it.

Great trailer. But yeah... does little for me. With Polyphony i always see the useless extra work they put in a lot of details that adds nothing to gameplay. To much of a showcase.
Just focus on making driving great with as many perfectly fine cars as possible.

There's a "campaign" mode tab officially, and single-player scenarios a la GT4 has been shown previously that may be some kind of crossover with license tests. Regular sandbox mode CPU races and player time trials are there, of course.

I typically don't play anything online, but it's made so ridiculously easy in the beta that even I have some interest, fwiw. Matchmaking is automatic by your skill level and sportsmanship to create full grids, with a track + car class pre-determined by a playlist on the server that you enter into. This is meant to be different and is separate from "traditional" online, deliberately made to encourage more people to come in.
Really surprising to me this didn't even warrant time on the main stage.
Don't disagree, but E3 is always for the American audience first. It wouldn't be entirely shocking if Forza 7 sells almost as much in its first month than GT Sport here. The US market is... weird.

This has been the series problem for a long time imo. So much time is spent on miscellaneous or extraneous details the main game seems to suffer. We keep hearing 'but it's only a small team' as reasons why the games take so long and why some features are only partially applied throughout the game and other things are relegated to using assets from previous generations juxtaposed with current that you have to question what is actually happening. That just has poor management written all over it. The lack of direction or quality control was written all over GT5 and GT6.

We keep seeing fancy trailers and fancy photo's but the actual core gameplay doesn't really reflect what the experience actually is or the higher quality set in the aforementioned modes. Either Polyphony need to increase in size or become more focussed.

Yes. I agree completely.

I mean, I don't even have a PS+ subscription, so I really need to see exactly what the singleplayer is. As someone who's bought every mainline GT up until now, it's been frustrating having to wait so long to work out whether I should even care about this one. I feel like I'll probably have to wait until GT7 proper, and that'll end up being a PS5 game at this rate.

Is that Tokyo racetrack the one that was in the first game. The only night Race?

I get bored of racing simulators easily now like Forza but I loved the trailer and it sucked me in. I haven't played since 5 so will jump in.

Looks stunning

Fancy trailer, but the gameplay I saw at Digital Foundry looks like a completely different game. Photomode and replays don't say much.

Nope, they showed it during the pre-show.

Might be a GoPro one since they're heavily promoting it, but I'm no expert.
Pre show? Jesus Christ, Sony why would you announce your show at 6pm and the shove the trailer of arguably your biggest first party title of the year to the fucking pre show??? It's not like your show was too long! It was barely an hour! I missed this trailer since I watched the show and not the goddamn pre show!

I disagree. Forza looks better.
Must suck being blind
fanboy
. I'm going to enjoy both games but the lighting and shaders here are on another level of what Forza can achieve. That doesn't make Forza inferior, both games have it's pros and cons but arguing that the GTS trailer looked worse than Forza is simply blind fanboyism.

They had quite a long GT specific section of the pre show including a tour of PD offices. Was pretty good!

The music sounds like it should be in The Goonies or something but still works!

just looks more realistic than that other game to me

Would be neat if PD had even more power for their game but they always get a ton out of the hardware they are working on

I hope it looks nearly as good while playing

Have to say as an xbox owner this trailer looked amazing and realy well done, I think it was a better trailer than Forza but forza had the dynamic weather in the trailer which looked awesome to.

From what am reading on here is sony's E3 was a bit meh or to familiar and left this trailer out, what were they thinking leaving this trailer out of the conference. This trailer alone could sell consoles and hype up the 4k aspect of the pro

this fall both console owners are gonna get some great driving games to show off the PRO and X

4k/60 has me chubbing after seeing how clean FM7 looks. I just hope PD aren't over-reaching - gameplay needs to be a solid 60. The 1080p beta seemed to nail this, but I do have doubts about it in 4k. Prove me wrong Kaz, you mad bastard.

Even if it's 2160 Cb it looks the same if done right. Seriously. I can't see any difference in wipeout between native and Cb

I see it as the opposite. They always nail the core gameplay but it's the extra features (damage, sound), polish and systems (online, campaign) that are lacking

I agree. I feel the series has been on the downhill since 4. I was a huge fan of the first few games (even ran a site dedicated to them) but I've been disappointed how much the series has lost its way. Once pretties were more important than framerate it got into real trouble.

GTS makes for gorgeous replays, gifs and images for people who use "dat" instead of "that". But the actual games suffer as a result. You can't play gifs, you play actual games.

Have you played the final game yet, or even the beta?

but will it have 4k assests if done that way?

2160cb would leave some free performance so it could look even better than at "real 4k" ;) And spoilers
"4k assets" don't really exist
. Technically 4k textures (4096x4096) have existed for many years and they are more than enough if used right. 8k textures should only be used for huge objects if at all.

I might be wrong but I think the beta is already 1800cb on PS4P.

Yes I'm on the beta. There are signs of hope - certainly over GT5/6. But I still feel that lots of elements are taking focus from the core game. And while the cars and lighting are amazing as always - the things we actually look at while playing - the tracks - I find underwhelming.

I live in hope though and am more likely than not to buy the finished game. I just wish I felt the same excitement I did when I imported the Japanese original, but I'm 20 years older, maybe that's not possible now.
