I might be able to pull that off. The gaming den is right outside the kid's bedroom, so I have to wait until pretty late to play stuff I don't want her to see. Still, I might do it.
I used to play Halo 2 right next to my daughter's room. Night Listening mode on my receiver helped for the first hour after we tucked her in.

It is your screaming expletives at your chums while playing GTAIV over Live that you will have to temper. :lol

The potential of DLC is not greater than the likelihood of RROD for many. Considering that one could have a DRM nightmare on their hands if they have to replace an X360 after they buy the DLC, I think those multiplatform owners you speak of have a legitimate reason to NOT support the X360 on this one.

I thought the DRM thing has been fixed (link to Evil Avatar, but I think it has been discussed here on GAF too).

Yes. But what is it? How much will it cost? Will it be SP or MP content or both? If MP content, will I have to have Live Gold to play it? etc etc

Right now, the DLC is a $50 million carrot.

* When MS says exclusive, they mean that no other system can have DLC content for GTAIV

* It will be bigger than a lot of people think. GTA Vice City and San Andreas were basically expansions of GTA3. Think of the DLC that way. We are talking major expansion for GTAIV

* No price has been discussed yet. It’s up to Rockstar on whether or not they will charge for it

* If successful, DLC may be the new way to deliver GTA expansions

Well I was going to get it for one platform and not the other, but then the one I wanted to get it for decided that it wasn't going to work anymore. Thats my third of that console. No prizes for guessing which one I mean.

I just don't know anymore.

Only if you send it in to be repaired. If you exchange systems in a store (ex. Best Buy) then it is not absolute that the DRM will get fixed.

So, if you buy the DLC for GTAIV, then just plan on sending your broken X360 to MS if you want to retain your DRM licenses. :/

I don't own a PS3....yet

I am thinking of actually getting this on the PS3 (and yes, I own a 360 and a Gold XBL account)...

The reason? I think I will get Saint's Row 2 on the 360 and GTAIV on the PS3 to help me self-justify having dropping $600 on a Blu-Ray player that I rarely use for gaming outside of MLB:The Show...also, its tough to say I would actually want too much sandbox crime simulation on the 360 this year anyway...

I am not 100% on that though...kind of depends on the exact details of what the MP is actually like and whether ot not the DLC turns out to be as big as some people think (on the scale of adding a Vice City to GTAIII for example) or simply a few crappy "missions" like the crap that was served up for The Godfather game...

PC

I'm planning on building a new gaming rig within the next few months, subsidized by the incoming federal rebate check, I have a very large backlog, can wait until the end of the year for the PC version, and I played through GTA3 and Vice City on PC, so I'm more accustomed to PC GTA.

Without knowing what the DLC is and how much it will cost, it is irrelevant to me at this time. I have heard that both versions are great, but I don't know if this means they are identical in performance. While I prefer Xbox Live for matchmaking, I could easily change my mind if the Home features of GTAIV make it just as easy to hook up with friends and play online. And since I don't know how much the online game will really matter, it is somewhat irrelevant as well.

I guess it is impossible to make an iformed decision at this point so I am voting undecided.

The potential of DLC is not greater than the likelihood of RROD for many. It is always nice to say that through 2 360's, one of which was a launch console I have never, ever had an issue with RRoD. Knock on wood. The other being an Elite which I got when they launched, and traded in my old launch 360 at that time. I've never, ever had an issue with my Elite in any form, thank goodness.

I guess, for me being a multiplatform owner, actually have two PS3's in house versus my one 360, that I want the game where I do not have to come on here and see all about performance issues with X version compared to Y.

There is no telling how many times I've come on here and seen a thread dedicated to that very thing. No telling how many times I've told multiplatform owners to get the 360 version nine times out of ten and they wouldn't have to come on here and whine about performance issues. As a multiplatform owner I do not see myself ever buying a multiplatform game this gen on the PS3. Perhaps a lead, but it would have to be something I really want. Maybe one day when the never ending complaints stop, but I do not see that happening anytime soon.

360 is the lead platform and as a multiplatform owner I will buy it on this platform. Had I personally had HW issues with the platform I’m sure I may have a salty taste in my mouth, but thankfully I don’t and more importantly I do not have to come on here and start threads about platform issues X versus Y.

Ah yea, and Live, Live, Live.

True story: my youngest daughter (almost three) sings to herself constantly. She does these flowing medlies, from "Twinkle Twinkle Little Star" to "Rock a Bye Baby" to "Jack and Jill", mixing them together. In the car last week, in the middle of one of those medlies, she started singing "Suck it Down. Suck it Down. Suck it Down."

My wife and I looked at each other in horror. She'd overheard me in the post-game Halo 3 lobby. :lol
or....she heard you instructing your wife behind closed bedroom doors. :lol

Sounds like you may need to prepare for flowing medlies of GTAIV dialog goodness. I chuckle when my daughter says, "OH SNAP!". I cringe at the thought of her saying something GTAesque.

Maybe Microsoft can devise a language censor for M-Rated games that replaces bad words like "fuck" and "shit" with words like fudge and sugar. One more reason to get the X360 version, eh? :lol

More of my friends are actually buying on PS3, so that's the version I'll be getting. With the Rockstar Social Club being a multiplatform thing, "achievements" are irrelevent IMO for the game. Plus, just used to playing GTA games on the Dualshock.

I also have a launch Xbox 360 that I KNOW is going to drop dead mid-game.

And, is XBL DLC also restricted to the same file size limitations as XBLA games? I can't see them stuffing a "San Andreas-sized" DLC chock full of new locations, voicework, cut-scenes, music, etc. into anything under a couple of GB.

i have both 360/ps3, i'll be getting it on ps3 just for free multiplayer, but c'mon no worries for RRoD? enough with this fanboy shit.

No its not look a Shivering Isles for Oblivion.

No not at all. The Shivering Isles for instance is DLC.

Edit: Super late. The PS3 version seems to be getting all of the super-delegates.

I doubt it, that restriction is for xbla only, plus wasn't the Oblivion DLC 2 or 3 Gigs?

EDIT: Beaten like a whore.

the thing that makes your opinion so bizarre to me is that you clearly are willing to buy a new GTA game despite never finishing one. there is obviously content in those new games that you buy it for even if you never finished the last one. so i'd say new vehicle types or areas to explore or whatever would appeal to you based on that.

i presume you bought VCS and LCS just to have them on a portable... but if you didn't then it'd be even more unusual.

Not bizarre to collect quality games, is it? I play them all and finish it if I really like it. I prefer the PS3 controller, especially with Dual Shock 3. Heck, I just might finish LCS on my PSP just cause I haven't finished one yet

i dont think so because the oblivion DLC is huge

Wow, this thread turned out well... Whats so difficult about accepting other people's choices?

Yup. 360's cultivation of the youth vote with DLC seems irrelevant. Microsoft must be shitting themselves, as the whole thing might not be decided until Midnight Launch. The RROD Sermon is still getting play on Hardball (even though MS has both denounced and rejected it with new hardware builds) and that NAFTA mailing transmitted through the supersonic whine of the Internal 360 Fan has completely backfired.

360 has the numbers, there doesn't seem like there's any way PS3 can come out on top, but that Old Guard of The Hardcore Gaming Party is going to fight this all the way April 29th. Of course this is nothing but good news for the Wii.

As I was playing DarkSector last night on PS3, I paused to look at the walls. I chuckled at the realization that his "work" had penetrated my psyche.

In a perfect world the DLC would be available for everyone who bought the game (in a perfect world every game would be available for every system, too). I guarantee nobody would be talking down the extra content, though.

Sure there's a chance they could half ass it. There's also a chance that it'll substantially add to the fun of the game. Who knows... maybe it'll be playing as Lola in a parallel story line or add several new types of single and multiplayer missions or new properties/cars/henchmen/weapons, maybe fixed wing airplanes. if I owned both consoles the potential alone for DLC being really, really good would still lure me to the 360 version. Otherwise it's the same game and i've lost nothing, really.

360. Strip away the DLC to put both versions on equal standing, and you still have:

-Superior controller
-More organized community networking
-Rumble that doesn't cost a premium

After reading that IGN interview and then seeing all that they've brought to the table according to previews and trailers, I just can't fathom that possibility, to be honest.

So in other words, personal preference, subscription fee / personal preference, and grasping at straws?

This thread is scraping bottom.

considering the $50million is a up-front loan and Rock* has to pay the difference back should mean that the DLC will be awesome.
At least no software company I've ever worked for likes to pay back money given to them via funded development.
