Just curious, why?

The difference is jarring on my tv. I have my xbox connected through vga and ps3 through hdmi. I compared Burnout and DMC4 and my 360 gives me a clean(but slightly blurry) IQ compared to hdmi. It was bad enough that I'd be willing to get the ps3 version.

I'm assuming his TV has shitty component inputs. On my Pioneer plasma, you can't even tell the difference between HDMI and component during actual gameplay, but the Pioneer has great quality for all inputs.

That's a possibility, I suppose.

Love my 1080p component inputs.

Ah, I was never a fan of the 360 VGA output, although I know people swear by it. The 360's component output at 1080p looks awesome, but if your component inputs are shitty (or unavailable) like mentioned above I can understand your choice.

What? Don't need "MORE" content? What kind of argument is that....

More content = more money. Possibly a lot more, if rumours are to be believed. DLC's one of the things I'm looking forward to most, but for a lot of people they're happy with what they get out of the box. I can totally understand that.

Now people might be saying "I don't need any DLC!!!", but I'm pretty sure in 6 months their minds will change when they have already beaten all the story stuff in GTA4.

And what about the fact that they're giving you 500 MS points for FREE when you pre-order? What about the fact that we don't know shit about it?

And yet you refuses to believe that I could be good, or cheap, and go buy it on another console, just BECAUSE?

Man are some people hard to believe.

(I'm not assuming it's your case, I'm just going with the thread here)

Can you definitely post a link to back it up?

Well, there's no concrete evidence. What we do know is that the game uses the Rage engine, and that was developed first for Xbox 360 for use in Table Tennis. Table Tennis was never ported to PS3.

So, what we have is the following:

Development using Rage was announced in June 2006. [link]

They're using an engine that was already running on 360, and has never run on PS3, so we can safely, definitely even, assume that the foundation had to be ported to PS3.

Your definition of "definitely" is pretty interesting :P

i really dont want to start a debate, but how can people seriously say that the ps3 controller is better then the 360?

i own both systems and while i can play for hours with the 360 controller without problems i get cramps after 30 min with the ps3 controller (no i have normal big hands, nothing special about them)? specially for shooters (lots of shooting in gta4!) the positions of the analog sticks and the triggers are way better on the 360!

As hard as it might be for those who hate Sixaxis to comprehend, there are people like me, who think vice versa about the controllers.

I haven't got any cramps while playing with the PlayStation controller, and the longest time I've played on PS1 was about 15 hours, on PS2/PS3 about 6 hours.

I've played Halo 2 and TimeSplitters: Future Perfect on my friend's Xbox, and it pretty much felt like I was fighting against the controller. Whereas playing Resistance with Sixaxis just felt natural. I never would have thought I'd like to play FPS game with a pad, but now I wouldn't use keyboard & mouse even if I had the chance.

I dislike the non-symmetrical placement of analogue sticks, and the 360 D-pad, I don't really like the triggers either (I hate when racing games use triggers for throttle/break). The same can be said about the PS3 triggers, but luckily there are shooters where R1/L1 are used for shooting.
What makes the design of the shoulder buttons and triggers better in Sixaxis, is that you can use all the four buttons simultaneously (ie. in Resistance, you can fire with R1/L1, crouch with L2, and access the weapon inventory with R2). I don't think you can do that with the 360 pad, as your index fingers are placed on the triggers, not to mention that they're more behind than the upper shoulder buttons.

PS3 here since we know nothing of the DLC. Played GTA on both PS2 and xbox and it feels better on the Dual Shock to me.

If it turns out to be cool, I'll snag a used 360 copy.

I'm actually considering ordering it today, but shipping is expensive since the lockbox and whatnot makes it heavy. I'm sure with shipping + tax will be more than $100. :\

No, I'd buy it whatever the cost. I'm not trying to defend people who aren't interested in it either - I'm just saying that it's an interesting reflection of the different ways people play the game. The vast majority of people who buy GTA are happy with simply killing people are driving around. Maybe they'll buy the DLC, but who knows?

I had a friend of an ex-housemate crash on my couch for 4 weeks who used to just use cheats to get all the weapons and ammo he needed to kill cops in Vice City for hours on end. Also, he took enough speed to literally do it for hours on end. Which was a little scary, but nevermind. I'm guessing he probably doesn't give a fuck about DLC.

That's pretty much my plan as well. I doubt the PS3 version will be subpar- Rockstar owes the Sony userbase for their fortune.

lol I guess I'm convinced. I mean with the delay and the Rage thing I said, plus considering that the 360 was selling gangbusters in that first year.

Don't think it's a biased view, though. I only have a PS3 and will be picking it up for that. I just can't kid myself. I also have huge faith in Rockstar North, as every game they've done has been exceptional, so I don't fret it.

I ordered it. It seems better than most LEs. I could imagine myself actually using the duffel bag as opposed to somve making-of dvd. I'm not sure which version will control better, I really like both the DS3 and the 360 controller, I hate the DPAD on the 360 pad though.

Door 1 : You don't know what's in there, but there's a surprise in it, a nice surprise.

Door 2 : You don't know what's in there, but there's no surprise.

So you're choosing Door 2?

Wait. Lemme get this straight:

1) We know nothing about DLC, other than $50M was paid for it.
2) People are poo-pooing the DLC or saying they don't want it.
3) lol

1. You are correct
2. I still don't want it because I'd rather play it on my PS3. I'm ok with the 3/4 experience. I don't buy into the 'full' experience that MS markets. I only play and expect to play 60-70% of the game and then I get bored and move on. Like someone else said on this thread. Its a personal preference
3. lolololololololololololol

I'll get the PS3 version since I don't own an Xbox360 anymore, and I will never buy one again. Two of them broke and I sold my third one.
I know that the 360 version will probably be superior but I'm not a hardcore enough fan of GTA anyways.

DLC isn't important to me since I never buy add-ons. I have some Gaffers on here dogging me sometimes because I refuse to buy Resistance maps even though I play it often.

Same with WarHawk.

I pay 60 dollars for the game, and that's all I'll pay for it.

Now if this particular DLC is something spectacular, I may think twice. If it's typical extra missions stuff or map expansion, then no.

Voted PS3 for the free online MP, the 360 hardware issues, my controller preference and I'll never have a need for the 360 DLC (but I also don't buy things on Marketplace because of the broken DRM).

I don't think Lead Sku is that big of a deal any more but although I understand it maybe a factor for some purchases I find it funny that the amount of times people state this as an answer that you MUST buy this on their platform on choice, however when its not it's ignored.

Nice to have this thread as a benchmark.

I also find it odd that the guys who only have one system are listing reasons why when they have no choice anywa
y.

This.

Seriously I have both consoles and I don't have a gold subscription so the comparison is an actually valid one for me. But for the dudes who have one console, let me show you how it comes across.

"Hi I have this console so you should buy this game for this console because I have it for this console. And My console is best".

I cant think of anyone more annoying than someone who pitches into a argument with two elements and then just says:

Mine is best. Because its mine and I have no basis for comparison anyway. Because I like the manufacturer of my console.

PS3 for the moral win and peace of mind (don't like to pay for LIVE, scared of RRoD, would hate to support the multi million $ DLC thingy).

You wouldn't buy the 360 version even if the x360 version was 20 bucks cheaper than the ps3 version, and x360 was at $199. So whos bullshitting who here.

Anyway X360 for me for the basic reasons DLC, more friends, better online, and the only console I have heh.

If it were significant we would have heard something, anything about it. Microsoft's silence speaks volumes as far as I am concerned. People are pre-ordering, the game ships in less than 30-days. They really should unveil something before the game comes out.

PS3 for me. I have all three on the PS2 and two for PSP. Guess what ... I haven't finished any of the 5 GTA games I have. I don't care for DLC. Multiplayer maps are fine but I don't care for Episodes. I personally do not play GTA for the story. Its the open world that I like. Its more of an experience.
the thing that makes your opinion so bizarre to me is that you clearly are willing to buy a new GTA game despite never finishing one. there is obviously content in those new games that you buy it for even if you never finished the last one. so i'd say new vehicle types or areas to explore or whatever would appeal to you based on that.

i presume you bought VCS and LCS just to have them on a portable... but if you didn't then it'd be even more unusual.

Littleberu said:

I loved Oblivion, yet I still haven't bought Shivering Isles. When a game is as long as GTA, at some point I just move on.

And GTA has online multiplayer, which for me makes PS3 the obvious choice.

But I don't begrudge those who feel differently...

As someone who owns both consoles I don't see why you would get the PS3 version if you have a 360. 360 was the lead platform, it has Xbox Live, custom soundtracks, Achievements, and exclusive DLC if you want it. Both will be virtually identical when it comes to performance, it comes down to getting a few extra perks on the 360 [for me anyway].

Agreed with this.

I know multiconsole owners (specifically PS3 and 360 owners) want to support Sony lately and make sure Microsoft knows we are all still pissed about red rings... but honestly, don't short yourself options by not getting the superior 360 version (based on the DLC alone).

Without knowing what the DLC is and how much it will cost, it is irrelevant to me at this time. I have heard that both versions are great, but I don't know if this means they are identical in performance. While I prefer Xbox Live for matchmaking, I could easily change my mind if the Home features of GTAIV make it just as easy to hook up with friends and play online. And since I don't know how much the online game will really matter, it is somewhat irrelevant as well.

I guess it is impossible to make an iformed decision at this point so I am voting undecided.

The potential of DLC is not greater than the likelihood of RROD for many. Considering that one could have a DRM nightmare on their hands if they have to replace an X360 after they buy the DLC, I think those multiplatform owners you speak of have a legitimate reason to NOT support the X360 on this one.

I'm confused about the whole exclusive DLC thing.

Is DLC completely exclusive to the 360 version, as in, PS3 will NEVER see any form of it?

Or is there a particular DLC package that will be exclusive to 360, meaning Rockstar can make something different or rename that content and release it on PS3?

Or, is it all just timed exclusive?

They should really clear all this up if they haven't already for people wondering which version to buy.

360@199$? HDD-less? Wifi-less? Possibility of RRoD? LIVE fee?

No, thanks.

Oh and I'm going to import my PS3 copy from the US. 60USD=38EUR, so I'll be saving 20 "bucks" for sure :P

MS already cleared it, saying something like "with exclusive, we mean it's something that will never be on other platforms"

I think GTA looks simply awesome in both scope and execution. I'm debating getting it, but I know my wife would not approve of the game's content, and I try not to get games with realistic human-on-human violence since I have young kids in the house. If it's cartoony or involving super-heroes (Crackdown) or fighting aliens (Halo, Gears) I'll let her see it.

My gaming instincts are crashing head first into my parenting instincts. Any other parents having this dilemma?

Yes. But what is it? How much will it cost? Will it be SP or MP content or both? If MP content, will I have to have Live Gold to play it? etc etc

Right now, the DLC is a $50 million carrot.

I play after they go to sleep and I put the boxes away so my offspring can't see it.

I voted PS3. I own both systems, but the fact that I'm on my 4th 360 coupled with the fact that I could care less about DLC has made my choice easy. I keep my 360 around for exclusives that I may want to play, but it hardly gets turned on anymore except for Rock Band.

I add the addendum that when the press is finally able to give comparisons and if those reveal a significant deficiency in the PS3 version, then I will of course get it for the 360.

DenogginizerOS said:

I might be able to pull that off. The gaming den is right outside the kid's bedroom, so I have to wait until pretty late to play stuff I don't want her to see. Still, I might do it.

I can't help but chuckle as I think about Dark10X as he scours Liberty City for wall textures to use to compare the two versions....
