Grand Theft Auto IV: which version?

Which version of GTA4 are you buying?

Results are only viewable after voting.
Undecided even though I'm leaning towards the 360 version.

360
+DLC
+superior controls since Rockstar made R2 the shoot button.
+achievements
+rumble
-I'll miss the online multiplayer since I don't have Gold.
-Afraid of another RROD.

PS3
+Home trophy support
+free online play
+no worry of my system dying and runs whisper quiet
-worse controls
-no rumble for me

I voted for the PS3 version. Simply because of the fact that I only own a PS3, and all of my real life friends have a PS3 too. The multiplayer is going to be a blast :D

Holy shit @ 10 % of the voters not even buying GTAIV.

I also find it odd that the guys who only have one system are listing reasons why when they have no choice anyway.

Well, for some, like in my case, it was the choice they had to face when buying their "next-gen" console. I have a Wii, am happy with it, but I also wanted GTA4. So I had to choose between PS3 or X360 for my GTA4 needs. Therefore my reasons were important.

It does? I own all three and have Gold. Can't play Halo, Gears, or Shadowrun on PS3. Can't play Pixel Junk Monsters, Wowhawk, and Hot Shots on the 360.

I don't think owning more than one console really says anything about one's Live status. If you want to play games online that don't exist for the PS3, you have to go Gold.
Sure. The value proposition takes a dive. If you have lots of Xbox live friends, or play games like Halo or Gears of War a lot, then yeah sure it's worth it. But for me, the last game I played online with 360 was Gears of War, which was with my free sign-up trial. I haven't had any reason to sign up for it since then. Dropping an additional subscription fee at any point to play an exclusive game online is kind of ridiculous. To some it's worth it, to some it's not.

I would really rather get it on PS3 because of the reliability and free online but have ordered it for the 360 because of the DLC (I don't have Live Gold so no multiplayer for me).

What's with the "lead platform" schtick? Didn't a couple of reviews say the PS3 version had better AA?

I'm buying it for (my Bro-in-law's) PS3. I'll get it on PC when it comes out.

Someone needs to compile a list of quotes from the stupidest posts in this thread (like the dude who said he wouldn't buy the 360 version due to green DVD cases :lol).

PS3 version for me.

I don't trust my 360 not to RROD again (I'm on number four), I cancelled my XBL Gold account, and I have a Dual Shock 3 arriving in the post soon.

Exactly. Simple possession of more than one console says absolutely nothing about whether one has Gold or not. You've provided a piece of anecdotal evidence and I've done the same.

You've made a generalized claim with no actual evidence. The real motivating factor regarding live is which games you want to play online, not which systems you own.

Why are people wanting stuff for Home? Maybe I just don't understand it, but I'd rather be playing the game than walking around looking at stupid little trophies that I've unlocked.
Yeah, you're right.

Why would anyone want to play a game to and unlock actual rewards and have fun while doing it while you can just settle for a meaningless highscore?

Enjoy the silence? Hmmmm, ya im going to bed for sure now. Night all.
Sure...

"Words like violence break the silence
Come crashing in, into my little world
Painful to me, pierce right through me
Can't you understand, oh my little girl..."

Oh wait... :D

I have both systems therefore I choose freedom.

Unlockable Home items? When the hell did Rockstar ever say they'd be doing that? I don't care which system people prefer, but where the hell are you people getting some of this info, assuming you're not just making it up?
Huh? There are actual magazine scans confirming Home integration, accomplishments, AND throphies...

Fun facts about this poll:

1. Four mods/adm. have participated so far
2. Three out of those four mods/adm. voted for the PS3 version :D
3. The remaining mod/adm. voted (not surprisingly) "Not buying/undecided/other" :lol

I'm sorry, I'm just bored :(

Rockstar sends the trophies to your house?? Or are you supposing that an item for Home constitutes any more an "actual reward" than a "meaningless highscore"? Christ, WHERE IS THE MEANING EXACTLY?

Honestly, I think I get where you're coming from and this is precisely the kind of thinking that scares me. Home gives me nightmares. And no, not Home nightmares that my avatar experiences. ACTUAL nightmares.

Man you're just full of important analysis!

360

Don't have a PS3 yet, but even if I did, all my friends have 360s and its all about multiplayer + headsets baby! Plus lead platform sweetens the deal.

PS3.

I would normally get GTA on PS2 and eventually pick it up for PC for the free-aiming and Multi Theft Auto but since GTA4 will to some extent be providing both, I think I will be happy with just the PS3 version.

360 for me. My friends have different consoles but most of them have 360s and that alone seals the deal. Just to compare progress more than to play online with them

PS3 version. I have access to my brother's 360 as well, but I prefer the PS controller and I refuse to pay for online play.

I like to play gta next to my sleeping girlfriend, without waking her up with fan noise
If she slept through your love making, I don't think a fan's going to make much difference.

Owning multiple systems directly affects that, though. And by that I don't mean affect which games you want to play, but how you can play the games you want to play.

Not 100% sure yet. But I think I will go with the PC-version. Atleast in other GTA games the mouse + keyboard setup is superior when compared to console controls. I will test the X0 versio and if the controls work well I might buy it.

I voted for the PS3 version, mostly because I like the controller better.

I'm probably going to be raging mad if the versions aren't equal. Depending on what the reviews say I might change my mind at the last minute.

I've been burned before on a couple multiplatform PS3 games like Skate, however with that said, there have been the great experiences like Devil May Cry 4 and Burnout Paradise.

If the versions are all but equal then I've got no worries. :D

My PS2 used to sratch all my GTA's I'm not taking the chance with another DvD. Plus RROD.

PS3 doesn't scratch, also the free online means endless hours of pwng.

Even though my PS3 gets a lot of my playtime lately, there is no way I could NOT play the DLC.

For $50 million, you know it's going to be significant.

360 version... because I don't enjoy playing games on the PC any more and I wont have a PS3 until LBP. If I had a PS3 now I'd still be picking up the 360 version because it was the lead platform and I quite like the sound of the DLC.

If the DLC is something major, it would behoove Microsoft to announce that soon. They should really let people know exactly what the DLC is well before GTA4 launches. It could make a lot of people change their minds about which version to get.

Of course, if it's nothing major, it'll just solidify the choices of everyone who's going with the PS3 version, and maybe even shift a few multiplatform guys over to that version (for RROD, etc).

360 version because I'd hate to feel like I'm missing out on something substantial when the DLC is revealed. And since the game has a free-mode in multiplayer, I have to expect that anything new introduced into the existing world of vanilla GTA IV will also be a part of the multiplayer experience.

I don't suppose anyone has heard anything about each version?

I'm guessing we're getting the same old "they are equal".

Hopefully GTA's development follows COD4 in that same respect.

PS3 for me.

The PS3 will support Home. But in terms of gameplay, they're the same.
