GT5 News - Nurburgring update (pre-E3 edition)

In prologue what happens is you go off, your tires spin, you come back on and they're spinning too much to grip for 3 seconds tops.

This sounds like it's more gradual. You'll probably still have those 1-2 seconds of tire spin, and then a reasonable amount of grip until the effect wears off where you'll be back at full grip.

My speculation, obv.

Sounds like dirt will be sticking to you tires, so the next turns will be harder - until the third or fourth and they'll be clean again. I like the idea.

A bit OT: anyone of you gaming/racing fans going to join the GP in Monte Carlo on Sunday?

So it's not like Prologue.
No. Again, its just like prologue. Ex: Say you drive the GTLM into the sand pit on Turn 1 at suzuka, when you get out of the sand, you get a "dirty tire" effect with loads of wheel spin. After the initial wheelspin the car does not regain the same level of grip it had pre sandpit until you get to the dunlop curve/after the esses.

It will need visual representation to show it. I've never noticed until i've read the posts here. TT wasn't a good example, since i would instantly restart after going off the track, but in Prologue... i really haven't noticed that. I've always thought the bad traction was due to normal wheelspin on RWD or MR cars.

I'm baffled because i probably put more hours in Prologue than anyone here on GAF and i haven't noticed that "feature".

To me it was something still on the wishlist:lol

I've never noticed it either. Once your wheels stop spinning in Prologue your car feels exactly like it did before you went off the road.

Erm, your imagining things. Yes you do get the initial wheelspin but then it's all back to normal.

this is probably the least updated thread on GAF in terms of news.

hopefully they will actually give some CONCRETE DETAILS at E3.

yes, dirty tires effect... it was there in GT5P, but it was not that strong and it did not last long.

I think we can delete the "hopefully" part, as it finally sounds like they're gearing up for E3.
It's been looking like that for the past 3 years :lol
and then we get the usual "they're waiting for TGS because that's closer to release" comments.

Don't forget the interim "wait for Games Con, it's a huge franchise in Europe" self delusion.

They have to, most likely a demo will be there, another trailer shown during the conference (maybe on stage demo?), then release date given for the Fall.

Hopefully they'll show it at the start of the conference along with TLG so that I won't have to sit through Move and PSP2.

Sony always show/demo there best two games in the start and at the end.

I expect GT5 and LBP2 to take those two spots at E3.
GT5 will be in the middle. LBP2 will be the start and something new will be at the end

LBP2 should be in the middle with Move, it should really be shown briefly though (at most 5 minutes or during their updated Move showing). I dont know what game would be their third one.

They way I see it, they should do the platforms in stages, like start on PS2, then PSP, then PSN (all of which shouldn't take too long anyway), and then group all the (hopefully awesome) PS3 stuff together at the end for maximum impact.

Having Uncharted 2, MAG, God Of War III, ModNation, etc, and random PS3 trailers all spread out at various points made no sense to me at all last year. Although presentation planning is not one of Sony's strong points.

I say their third big game will be Rockstar's Agent or a new game, but I see GT5 going at the end just to get everyone worried that it wouldn't be shown.

Props to Jay from GTPLanet for this bit:

I love 18 megapixel pics, you can zoom in and see some nice detail like this:

Photo mode is going to nuts. The one in GT4 is pretty robust but this is propably going to make it look like a joke.
i'm glad windows 7 has the automatic wallpaper changer. GT5 is going to give the best wallpapers ever :P

LBP2 has only token Move support at launch. It should get as full a stage demo as they can allow...but no one game should get more than several minutes. I remember they gave GT:HD something like 15 or 20 mins at E3 06...total snooze-athon.

A great feature in forza 3 was with certain views you could see the other cars reflective on the hood.I wonder if this will be in GT5.

I'd rather they all have a uniform reflection going on. In Forza 3, while it does look nice, it is restricted to your car only and the others look rough by comparison. I'd much rather they implement one reflective style across the board to be honest.

I'd say GT5 deserves to take more than just "several minutes". It's without question Sony's biggest franchise. It's about time that they actually start treating it like that. Give Kaz enough time to show a trailer, a live demo of some new features and to announce the date. If it takes 15 minutes then so be it. Nothing Sony will show there is as important to them as GT is.

^ Id say it deserves its own conference. :D

But, we will probably only get a trailer, then info will start trickling out as the press interviews Kaz. As, I said before, if we get the release date, then and only then we will gradually know all of the games features.

Hopefully Im wrong and we will indeed have a blowout but I doubt it.

I think they should do the on stage demo with the GT guy. How much of it did they show last year? Just a trailer for it and GT psp I think.

They have to blow it out. The time for teasing has come and gone.

Agree I would love to see my car reflect in the car's bumper ahead of me but it's a huge resource eater, next gen maybe :P

I guess they took off the driver's arms and the steering wheel in cockpit view...

If that is an option to toggle when using your own steering wheel that is rather good, because your wheel and hands become the drivers, not the game's also!

Pretty much. I'd take silence (or little news) as a sure sign of large behind-the-scene problems.

The fact that they are teasing us about E3 points to a blow out of some sort. But what does PD consider a blow out? I hope they don't think a new trailer with a world wide release date is enough, they have to serve up some real details.
