GT5 News - Nurburgring update (pre-E3 edition)

PD needs to stop "showing off" their awesome tree technology. :P Other than that I think it looks really good and I can see the improvements they've made on trackside detail. The only real problem I have with the Ring is that the far-off background looks really low-res, like the mountains and the skies.

Perhaps it's a side effect of the supersampled bullshots? The backdrop images aren't hi-res enough to scale well with the supersampling and therefore look a bit off here.... Just a pure non-tech-savvy guess from my side though. :p

I hope most SCE games from now on use the GOW3 AA. The IQ is one of the best and cleanest among console games.

About the new screens, They look good but I'm not seeing the OMFGBBQ or whatever :/

Kaz you better bring it at E3 no more fucking around.

All of these tracks have the option to be played for rain, night, rain+night right?

(nurburg+rain+night=death?)
I doubt that, but i guess it's possible. I'd expect rain to only be on some tracks, same with night racing. Hopefully we find out more about this and other features soon.

The new screens look great, i can't wait until we get some clear, solid info on GT5. There has to be a blow out this E3 right, and not TGS?

What exactly are some of you people using as a comparison to say that Prologue and some screenshots from GT5 look like ass?

Real Life? or a particular game?

Because I would love to know. :lol

It looks like they have implemented screen space ambient occlusion in those new images ( the large ones posted, what do you guys reckon?

With the amount of stress they're already putting on the engine I don't see how it's possible. Propably pre-baked.

I'm probably wrong, it's in that wide open screenshot of the nurinberg with all the tents/cars people standing.Could be baked like the previous user mentioned.

And that's before you try it in an F1 car with no headlights :lol

I'd think any ambient occlusion will be baked into textures, besides the simple soft shadow under the cars.

I doubt the dof and post is that hot in real-time but the lighting and shader work (ie w/o supersampling) smoke everything in the genre IMO. At a significantly higher resolution than most console games on the market. And the car modeling hasn't ceased to look nuts in 3 years now. It looks great.

As for the 2D tree complaints, PD balances 60/40 on cars/enviros for a reason. With a sim they know people identify with the vehicle first. the track is a means to immerse you in the vehicle not the other way around. To them the shortcut makes sense, thats all there is to it.

Focus on the cars has always been their hook I think, having such a wide variety while still remaining strangely nuanced enough to wanna 'buy' each one. Each car big and small becomes a little 'sim' of its own. All I want is an HD wet dream version of that. Personally I think its shaping up that way. Online and other doo-dads will be gravy. I seriously don't get all za bitching (information super-massive black hole aside).

GT3 meets GT5. It's like a crossover.
I would like nothing more than GT5 to just be GT3 in 1080p with 12+ cars in every race.

Also, those new pictures look nice but the sky textures are still very underwhelming. :(

Just what the hell are people expecting out of GT5? I mean seriously... if its not one thing, than its another. The game is already leaps ahead of the competition, what the hell else could you want on hardware from 2006?

? lol? Really? It's only taken this long for it to release and yet you haven't played it to make such a claim.

:lol Ahead before it's even out, pretty funny.

If it makes you feel better and all high and mighty knock yourself out. At least I don't make assumptions about something that I haven't played yet. :lol

Other way around.

Halfassed track environments are the biggest eyesores and killer of immersion when actually driving.

Well many of us have already tested the new physics to a degree and there are numerous recent video's of GT5 in action as well.

So we have an idea of how it will play and we can stack that up against other games already out.

That seems to be like the only thing that's ever discussed about this game, we all know it looks amazing. Yamauchi-san should stop pussyfooting around and and release it already, that's my main beef I just want it to come out already :lol

I do expect it to be great at the very least... I'll most likely get a ps3 just for this game, anything else will be a bonus.

You should try out a game called Afrika, you can drive around, stop, hop out and take pictures of the pretty foliage. Don't forget to feed the lions while you are there.

Slayer-33 your a laughing moron. Anytime a poster has to put that laughing emoticon in every f'ing post means he is lacking something in the ol noggin. I need a GTFO GT5 gif.

*GTFO GT5 gif*

personally I prefer greater emphasis on track details as I like to hit the front and also race bonnet cam. I simply don't see other cars very often :lol

(that's Helio Castroneves)

I was the 90th person in America to "officially" get GT3 (I got there like at 6am and 89 other bastards were in line :( I wanted to be #1
msspx.jpg
), I was that big of a GT series fanboy, this was a day before official release in a special event that took place over here in NYC's rockefeller center and shook Yamauchi sans hand :D . Gamestop and EB games pooled all their reserved GT 3 copies to the EB games store in rockefeller, Sony/PD bought out the entire stock of Logitec FF GT wheels they had (like an extra 10 in stock) PD brought in 100 wheels for us, they gave away an extra 10 for the people in line :D

logitech-driving-force-gt-racing-wheel.jpg
I was in heaven when I played that shit with that wheel, (might not be exact model but it looked like that)

It must be the racing game cravings one gets when they see a car and the road in-game that gets me desperate to play them. This shit happens to me with all racing games I want, I just want them to be out asap.
