GT5 News - Nurburgring update (pre-E3 edition)

That first pic is just asking for GAF trouble :lol

2D trees, low res trailers/tents/cars on the other side of the fence

Etc.

Ugh, another GT5 cocktease. Feast of the Gods next month or bust. I dont think I can wait any longer ;_;

Anyone complaining about the trees is a troll, plain and simple.

If you wanna moan and whinge about the trees fuck off to Green Peace and leave the gaming to us.

I hope this sudden appearance of trackside detail is an indication that they've finally called it a day on content and are going for the final stretch of polish.

looks superb but a little too bright and cartoony for my likes. still, looks very nice.

I hope all tracks are equally as detailed. :D

My most anticipated game of 2010.

So much detail.

They even have the new Ring Racer roller coaster alongside the start-finish line. Which was only built last year and has yet to officially open to the public.

A simple ride, only has one twisted curve in between two grand stands, but it was never meant to be an actual roller coaster.
It's all about the launch. The launch is the ride. 0 to 135 mph in 2.5 seconds.

I don't believe those screens until I am playing the game at home on my TV, prologue had some nice bullshots too before it came out, until I put the game in and it looked like ass with all the jaggies.

i think the latest demo allready had a lot less aparent jaggies (to my delight)

What? Are you joking?

He isn't, the Academy build had an additional 2x temporal SS antialiasing solution added to the already existing 4xMSAA (in 720p mode). You won't find a game with more antialiasing on consoles.

So excited for this game. My wife got me a logitech G27 out of the blue (was on my wishlist) and can't wait for this game. Anyone else got a setup that I can tuck away or at least be discrete with?

2d trees don't matter unless you are not paying attention to the road. I think the bigger concern is having online lobbies or at least a good online component to the game.

New cocktease pics, yet still no actual fucking info. Yawn.

:(

And I almost agree with TTP below, that pic is horrible. The other ones are muuuch better.

Worst GT5 pic ever

Emphasis on crap. Its about time Kaz and his team stop the stripper parties and actually work on improving the game's look.

WTF are you two talking about? Do you even understand that you'll never ACTUALLY be able to see that stuff, since you'll be focused on the actual track trying not to crash at 200 km/h? You're treating the photo like it's supposed to be of any kind of importance.

:lol and that's me laughing at the ridiculous-nous of your comment. You do know you'll see NONE of that from the driving seat.

You guys are just confirming his point. The other pic on ground level is actually good, since it's more representative; the overhead pic is crap because it clearly shows the taken graphical shortcuts.

Yeah, pretty much.

You're right but still it doesn't change the fact that this specific picture looks rather ugly.

Get MLAA up in this bitch. They might hit native 1080p yet.

Why does everyone assume MLAA can be applied just like that? Are there any new 'reports' that mention a negligible performance impact or what?

It's actually more memory efficient to use than regular AA if you implement it right.

Really? That's great then, but I'd assume the engine needs to be (heavily) rewritten for it to work. God knows if Polyphony's even aware that tech sharing among Sony 1st party studios exists, given how out of touch they seem to be with the rest of SCEWW (and the world).

Well the good news is that it was passed along to LittleBigPlanet 2...so I do have some hope for GT5. :D

I believe MLAA can be classified as post process, so it doesn't really need an engine rewrite for it to be applicable. You do need to find SPU time, though.

And if anyone can do it, it's PD. Their tech is awesome.

5ms of processing time across 5 SPUs, for a 720p image, is the latest figure in the SPU thread. If they are implementing 3D (supposedly), then surely they can use the new overhead in the 2D version to give us some MLAA? Also, they free up some GPU bandwidth by dropping regular MSAA, so I guess they could even move things from the Cell back to the RSX. Native 1080p is probably a pipe dream, I admit, but they seem to be able to eek out performance all over the place. If they compromise a little to reach that goal with 60fps and MLAA, so be it.

PD needs to stop "showing off" their awesome tree technology. :P Other than that I think it looks really good and I can see the improvements they've made on trackside detail. The only real problem I have with the Ring is that the far-off background looks really low-res, like the mountains and the skies.
