GT5 News - Nurburgring update (pre-E3 edition)

The fact that they are teasing us about E3 points to a blow out of some sort. But what does PD consider a blow out? I hope they don't think a new trailer with a world wide release date is enough, they have to serve up some real details.

A head tracking demo would be nice for E3, they've been really discreet about it.

I'm not sure that head tracking is such a big deal. I sometimes wonder if it will become a distraction of sorts while racing, the challenge though is that it has to feel natural and if PD can pull that off I'm all for it.

Frankly speaking, every PC game that have such option or default view view is a living testimony how unnatural and utterly hilarious it looks.

That's just not right! :lol

Though most people seem to race with the bumper cam so I doubt many would care if the hands where there or not, would be a cool option though for some.

Yeah, I so dispise that.

170 people put thousands and thousands and thousands of work-hours in order to create most convincing interour-cam ever seen in video-games, with mind-blowing details, dynamic lightining, HRD effects, stunning textures, driver animations and possbily even damage (in race cars), head tracking effects and very probabaly multiscreen support.

But noooooooooo, bumper cam is the way to gooooooo...

Pathetic.

If I was asked - and unfortuantely I'm not :D - in Professional mode you could use only cockpit camera.

Come on Amar212, I bet with the amount of people buying this game the interior of ALL cars will be explored (even each one of the 20+ versions of a Nismo) ;D

Well it's a lot easier to drive with the bumper cam. :P GT5 should have a "professional" difficulty/mode like GRID that locks you in to the in-car view.

Well, im sure there will be an option for online events to force cockpit view.

The problem i have with cockpit views (in all racing games) is the "restrictiveness" they all seem to have. Such as this:

IRL I can view much more with whats going on around me. They make the field of view way too small.

That's why the game will support the linking together of 2 more PS3s, so you can play the game on 3 screens. And/or get a PlayStation for head tracking.

The reason is probably very simple; a narrower FoV -> less geometry to render -> better performance.

Completely agree, hood view is usually all the restriction I can stand. Few games have nailed a good racing cockpit perspective.

I thought the cockpit view in NFS: Shift was probably the best cockpit view I'd ever seen.
And probably the best thing about that game

No it wasn't, it was shit, it made me feel like I was a driving the car as a passenger in the back, it was so far inside the car, half of the game screen was the car interior.

I only race with the pulled back camera where you can actually see you know ... THE CARS !!

You guys can stick to your tunnel vision cockpit view :D

I thought Evolution studios had the right idea in their WRC games, essentially making your TV/monitor the windshield.

I still find the cockpit view to be the most enjoyable viewpoint to play from

I've never felt like i'm at some kind of disadvantage because i'm using the cockpit view in a racing game.

It doesn't make much difference in terms of driveability imo.

Cockpit view looks beautiful. Bumper cam looks ugly.

I think all the views are totally serviceable but end up using the bumper cam because because I've used it the most and feels the most natural... propably the case for a lot of players.

Also heightened sense of speed because the camera is closer to the road. ;)

The thing with prologue is that the cockpitcam is static. Its like driving through a camera bolted to the car.

I think it needs to be detached (a little floating), like in GTR or rFactor, to get the right feel. Its just not feeling right as it is!

They changed this in the Time Trial, thank gawd. It's now pretty dynamic!

I know they changed it a little, but its still to stiff, and the delay of the camera relative to the car is not enough....hope they tweak this a little. The feel of GTR onboard cam with GT5`s interiour graphics would just be awsome!!

A cool thing would be in replays, being able to choose the passenger seat or back seats for a replay angle.

Yeah, that would be cool! Or the option of being a passanger in an online race, from the passenger or backseat (giving the car behind the bird :lol )

You do have multiple interior views to select from now although it seems to change depending on the car that you're in

I prefer a more static cam.
Shaking, zooming and blurring is much less realistic imo.

Zooming and blurring may be, but shaking is not...its actually very realistic
, unless you are welded stiff and to your car :)...thats part of why the movement with track ir seems so realistic..dynamic/detached movement

Honestly, I'm more excited for Test Drive Unlimited 2 at the moment.

That being said, 2010 is shaping up to be the year of the racer.

GT5
Sega Racing Classic
Hydro Thunder Hurricane
Split Second
Blur
F1 2010
TDU2

Something for everyone. :D

It's going to drop at E3. At the end of the press conference, Jack Tretton will say "Oh, and one more thing. GT5 has gone gold"

And then they will come up with a brand new "platinum" phase when they announce the 2011 release date :P

I need to know this, among the GT fans... Split Second or Blur? :D

Right now my preorder is for Blur, but after playing the Split Second demo, I might switch to that game and wait on Blur. I love me some Bizarre Creations racers, but blowing shit up never gets old.

This thing looks amazing. Although most of it are semi-bullshots (just like other racers). Made within a special photomode and stuff...

I prefer the cockpit view but I'd really like to be able to adjust the height etc.

Pretty much this. I'd like to be able to raise/lower pull back/forward the seat and be able to adjust my view as such. Unfortunately, I can't do that. :(
