GTA V *NEXT GEN* Impressions from the GameStop managers conference

I really never understood the jaggie observations on the PS3 version. It looked steller on my end. You sure you don't have your TV's sharpness misconfigured?

what? It's 720p with iffy anti-aliasing. It's gonna have jaggies. Though I did play the game on a 32 inch 720p TV and it looked just fine, pretty much anything bigger than that is going to show the game's flaws. I'm playing it now on a properly calibrated 50 inch TV and it's jaggietown

Yep.
I play all my games on my PC and hate this whole pc master race shit.

It's like....you guys have to compensate something.

I think people are just joking around and happy about their PCs. Its like people who do crossfit or are vegans. People cant shut up about the things they are excited about. As long as I can remember nerds have used to boost their superiority with their 1337 leet gaming rigs. I think you just see it more now as many Gaffers are converting from consoles to having dedicated gaming pcs for the first time or after a longer hiatus.

As someone who still remembers how shunned and ignorant GAF was about PC gaming back in 2005-ish era, its really nice to see the enthusiasm returning to PC gaming. For a long time it was just "pc gaming is dead".

- Question; Why will a G-sync monitor help if the port is not good? Also, has anyone heard about any ultra-wide 21:9 G-sync monitors coming up? I was thinking of going after this instead of going 4k as its only a 20% performance penalty over 2560x1440 according to Linus!

If I could stick to that resolution I could get the multi monitor feel in UHD but without the crazy cost of dedicating myself all the way to 4k.

Well, you have to believe it :)

Grand Theft Auto V Release Dates and Exclusive Content Details for PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC
(includes 16 new PS4 screenshots)

Edit: brand new trailer coming at 9am Eastern today (from the article above)

Enhancements to Grand Theft Auto Online include an increased player count, with online play now for up to 30 players on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.

No mention of PC! That means PC will allow for even more.
At least something good in all this PC delay bullshit.

Damn. Thats a week after I have the whole house to myself for a week. Going to have to look elsewhere for a game to play.

Do you reckon they would bring the date forward a week just for me?

What the....even on my new system it can't achieve and hold 60FPS, whilste the better looking Sleeping Dogs runs absolutely fine. How is that a good port?
Well, I totally can on mine and compromising with details I could even on my previous one?
So it was more than fine enough to me.

Watch the pc version only support 16. Just because.

People that finished the game, do you really want to play it again with slightly better visuals?

No, but with extensively better visuals and the opportunity to use mods down the road. I missed out on the mod train in GTA4, there was some truly interesting stuff going on like overhauled driving model and first person mode (even though that was clunky according to players).
This time I will be there from the beginning!

I didn't even enjoy it that much but I can get about 30 bucks for my PS3 version now and I could definitely play through it again at noticeably better visuals.

I also play only on PC but don't find the "PC master race thing" hateful. The trick is to not take it so seriously. There are people who do so, but I tend to think it's their problem.

Worst thing about GTAV was the abysmal pop-in. Takes me right out of the game to watch the environment load in front of me. Glad that's been addressed.

Can't wait to hear more about GTA online, assuming that they improved it in any way.

"Looked 30 to me. But I believe its not locked down the FPS yet.

considering the visuals I'll be shocked if its 60 at launch but Im not confirming anything."

I didn't expect 60. I don't necessarily need it either. But it'd be nice.

I'm getting all three versions for friend and comparison purposes so the PC version will offer it if the console version won't but hot damn, imagine playing 1080p, 60fps GTA V on your couch with your buddies over PSN or XBL. Hnnngg

Obviously not on par with the image quality and clarity of a PS4 game, also maybe not as good in lightning as Infamous is pre-baked while GTAV is realtime.

But when it's a sunny day and rainclouds appear then you can watch individual puddles appear on the ground, looked already pretty neat on last gen, especially when you get out of the car and walk around in the rain.

That is true, it was really impressive last gen but the way Shogun is describes it makes me think it must really be standing out. Makes me curious to see how good they must look on next gen. Plus i'm a sucker for rainy environment and atmosphere in open world games.

I loved cruising in a convertible (read Carbonizzare) when it was dark, cloudy and raining

The detail put into this world is screaming for an optional first person viewpoint so that you can get a better look at some of these details. Using it in GTA IV for example let you read magazine covers, beer names in the bar, porn movie titles in the adult shop, etc that the default camera angle makes impossible to read. I can't wait. They put a lot of work into the detail of everything in this world and then give you only camera angles that make you miss out on a lot of it. Never understood why first person wasn't an optional viewpoint. Not asking for it to be the way you play the game, just like you don't play the game from the "cinematic" viewpoint. Just wish it was one of the optional camera angles of "your character's eyeballs".

This mod alone makes the PC version the definitive way to play GTA for me so that you have a way to see every little detail and feel more immersed than ever.

Imagine first person view mod with Oculus Rift support. Talk about immersion into Los Santos!

You act like that's all they're adding. The reasons I'm buying it again are - much improved graphics, new radio content, and most importantly more gamers in the online mode. The online portion of the game was addictive as hell to me and many others. I'm ready to jump back in at a much higher resolution.

Had to check if this was a necrobump with all the master race talk going on. So hackneyed.

I pretty much have continuously played GTA5 as my standby game since it came out. Couldn't be more psyched for the PS4 version.

I thought GTA V had the most well-realized open world ever created. Exploring was an absolute joy for me.

I agree, it's an icredibly big and well polished world. But there is nothing for me, the player, to find. And for most of the world, there's not really anything to do either. I tried going to that big ass prison that's in the game, but there was absolutely nothing to do or find there, making that locale completely pointless.

I remember someone saying that it would be easier to find a real gun in the real LA, than in the city of Los Santos. Which perfectly describes the issues I have with the world of GTA5.

I don't understand it either. Easily has the best IQ of any Rockstar game on last gen consoles.

What size is your TV? On my 40" LCD it's nice and sharp. On my 60" kuro it's flaws are more visible.

Never played GTAV. These impressions are looking very very good. Is it worth it?

Who's gonna say no in this thread? As long as you don't mind cynical, misanthropic writing (even by gta standards) and many overly scripted story missions, go for it. Personally it was a big disappointment for me as a longtime fan of the series who was never really into the sandbox aspect of it.

Do we still have no idea whether they will add cockpit view to cars? It seems highly unlikely but i'm i would be instantly sold if they include it.

It still has loads of aliasing, though. If you cant notice it, I can only assume that you're either not sensitive to it at all, or maybe the distance to your TV means its not as noticeable.

This is what the game looks like on PS3:

And if you played it on a 1080p TV, that also gets scaled up, creating even worse IQ.

Why did I have to play this on PS3 already. Now I want to see it again for the technical improvements, but playing through the whole thing again seems kinda much. Maybe down the line.

That is hardly an aliasing fest. Sure you can see pixels, but is really far from having horrible IQ.

Aliasing is more evident with movement ; everything shimmers.

Seriously.

It's fine if people think GTAV on last-gen was acceptable in that regard, but to try to claim there isn't a shitload of jaggies everywhere is just basically nonsense. The game is awash in jaggies, there's really no disputing it.
